falsely accused [CLOSED Thread]

Hi,
I really love this site. I've built some great relationships that I never would have expected online. Last night I had something happen that threatens to ruin my whole experience. I left my computer on, logged in for a period of 3-4 hours and my roomate jumped on and had lots of fun with my account. He e-mailed a long list of 'intimate encounter' people without me knowing. I am embarassed to be labelled as some pervo, but I wasn't able to find a way of removing this. I think the perv filter is excellent for everyone, but clearly it failed me here :(
I'm only looking for friends to hang out with, as you can clearly see from my account setting, and I want nothing to do with this. I'm a real person, and these are real relationships. I made a stupid mistake leaving myself logged in, but I really don't deserve this - how can I enjoy my POF experience again?

P.S. mods, feel free to read all my messages. My history will prove I've always been polite & considerate, and aside for that time period, only contacting 'normal' people. My pictures are all clean, I don't swear, I'm just a normal guy that wants his record cleared. Just think if you were falsely accused as a perv? Its not fun and defintely not in spirit of this wonderful site :(

no-one can help you clean up your account, you will have to delete present account and re-join.

however im confused about something, the site/system automatically logs out members after 15-20 mins inactivity....so one wonders how your roomate came by your password.

mods have no access to private mailings, so they cannot judge you by that.

unfortunatley most peeps on here will judge that you committed the offence yourself, irrespective of whatever excuse.

only course of action is to delete account and start again.

Yup... besides... it's only been one week. Exactly how many lasting friendships have you formed in that time?

I suppose you are right.
There must be some way i can forward my history to a mod. I have nothing to hide. I just want my name cleared, even I have to start over.

You are asking the impossible...

Even if your mail history is reviewed, who is to say that you didn't send out the messages signing someone else's name or posing as someone else?

I can give my account log-in info to a mod - who can clearly see the time stamps.

Which will prove that emails were sent at those times.

I must ask, will you provide alibis as well that will testify under oath that it couldn't possibly be you that logged in at those times?

Seriously... you cannot prove that it wasn't you.

Of course there is no way I can prove that. But I can show that all those emails were sent back to back in an isolated time period - and are completely out of context with my other conversations.

Which proves just that... and nothing else.

For all anyone would know, you went on a bender and had a little bit of fun last night... after all, being on the site for a week does not solidify a history of contact.

All you're proving now is that you are being neurotic about this whole thing...

Delete your profile and be more careful with logging out next time... easy peasy huh?

I am mostly concerned about insulting the 14 people that have me on their favorite list by just disappearing. Its also a pain to lose all my email corresponance. Is there some way to export/import this later, if I have to start a new account?

Jot them each a quick note letting them know you'll be back...

Trust me, it's no insult to close your account on this site... thousands of people do it every day.

As for your mail, copy it to a word document or something - there is no .pst system on here.

At the top of the forum page there is this heading -

It's kinda big, and it's red.
Here's a shortcut to the page behind it -

Check out message 10, particularly down near the bottom, these headings -
Saving Emails
E-Mail: How to Backup your E-Mail Messages

Once you've backed up your emails etc etc perhaps you should consider deleting your room-mate?

I did read all the FAQ's relating to my problem. I made a new post because no one had the situation I did, and besides, the closest post I could find to my problem was closed.

I didn't say you hadn't read the FAQ's, or that you shouldn't have made a new thread.
My response was directed to your comment - "Its also a pain to lose all my email corresponance. Is there some way to export/import this later, if I have to start a new account?"
But now I'm wondering why you were asking how to save your mail, seeing as you read all the FAQ's relating to your problem?

this is a very strange story. First of all, you've only been on this site for 6 days. How many experiences have you formed?
And its definately odd that your "roommate" contacted all those people.

Here's an alternate hypothesis: You had a little too much to drink and said some things you shouldn't have and now you regret it. Hence, materializes the "roommate".

And so soon...you've only been here a week. Not a good sign.

And "accused" of what? I have a feeling there is more going on here than just messaging people who are looking for intimate encounters. I'm guessing your "roommate" said some pretty insulted and offensive things.

Good luck :)

I've met 14 friends. That may not be many, but that shouldn't devalue any one of them. My roomate didn't contact any of them - thank god. He only sent messages to strangers. Your fantastical story is cute, but I don't drink thank you.
The messages were not awful, but the intention is obvious :(

the story just doesn't add up. You're a little overly concerned about this. 14 friends in 6 days? Also odd. You are trying very hard apparently to make friends. Definately something odd here. And if the messages were not awful, then your choice of title.."falsely accused" is also suspect. This story has more holes than a block of swiss cheese. If i was a girl, there'd be alot of red flags here.

Slightly off topic. But, if you've got a roomate who would get onto a computer which you didn't sign out of, and get onto a web site you didn't sign out of, and send emails as you, then you've got a roomate who could easily install a "spyware" tool to record your keystrokes.

A tool like that can yield a lot of passwords. For sites a lot more critical than dating sites. (Consider your online banking for a moment.).

P.S. mods, feel free to read all my messages. My

Sorry , we don't entertain reading c/p member emails, or login to member accounts as a defence to the "drunken roommate" plea or fix any IE flag problems.

10 million uswers - a couple of mods at best.

how can I enjoy my POF experience again?

You were given the solution - carry on.
