My msn has been playing up lately...it apparently doesn't show me everything the other person is saying, but will often deliver the missing bits from that conversation the next time I sign in. Makes for some very entertaining confusion with all of us going ...What? Huh? What does that mean? What the hell are you talking about? Are you drunk?

Then again, it's usually like that trying to have a conversation with me.

With so many people choosing to use the crazy half picture or character text, it does get confusing when you are trying to have a canversation with them, but its sort of funny, how your brain over compensates for that.( it works out what the letters are) so
you can read it anyway!
Have you noticed..
Its possible that some people have more advanced versions of Word than you use! Or your copy of xp or vista is different from there`s. Another compueter system that doesnt always work with microsoft, is the linux systems in some notebooks or laptops! also there are heaps of people who still use the Mac versions.......
when you go to download pictures and video`s from your mobile camera, or even your digital camera, you also have to down load Quicktime, that was invented by the Macintosh IT technicians, funny that no one has brought any other system like that that works with all computers....
If you didnt know it before, Bill Gates used to work for McNair/Macintosh, before he broke away, forming his own company and taking years of research of his co-workers with him....
So maybe all you have to do is delete the version you are using now and re-install it!
or change to Net meeting, which automatically lets everyone know when you log in at your IP address that you are on line...

There are heaps of other chat sites, you can use, if you log into just Mail.com or Yahoo
Yahoo, you can chat with people whilst checking your emails as it has an added option..
But then there are the Mirc. com chat sites that were first to be used in regional areas, and their are thousands of them. if you down load the Mirc site called ICQ its best if you also download the installing instructions..
there are heaps of other chat sites like Mirc ( which standsfor Internet Relay Chat)
Paltalf, Perch, do a google search, the possibilities are endless!
Then of course there is also the BUZZEN.com network which is similar to Msn Messenger!

I see what you mean OP...when I went to sign in to msn today the same thing happened...had to install new stuff. But mine has worked just fine.

I didn't choose all the items they gave options for, like all that photo stuff and whatever...don't need it. ...so I unticked all but the first box and the one that was to do with uploading to blog sites. End result...where the msn icon was in my main menu has changed, the icon itself has changed, and the whole thing has a new look. It's working fine so far and I am hoping it will actually iron out the problems I've been having.

Looks like we will have to use POF as a communication tool.............No i am kidding.

POF has been used enough by a certain brisbane person as a money making venture..Not good as Marcus and his crew offer a top quality service at a zero price. Hopefully we can work this out with msn....regards Shane

"problems with MSN messenger".... is that an oxymoron?....

nothing but problems.. and the carrier of many email bugs with all the circulated must see new vids..... hotmail etc...

I like to keep a clean PC and stay away from the most common IM offerings... and never load them... yahoo ,msn... and actually phone people for an IM...

Oh the irony . .

Yes, thank you. And now I have those adverts you mentioned...yay me.

Interesting install...they try to take over your home page, and your preferred search thingy, and your menus, and can't remember what else ... if you don't untick the boxes. Sneaky b@stards.

ok if you are having problems with the microsoft version of windows live messenger..there is alternatives to use,......try searching for "amsn" or "pidgin" they work well and are both open source as well...and yes now microsoft wont let u continue unless u update to the latest version of windows live messenger (the old msn)......the new version should run properly on any version of windows from the old win2000 to xp, vista and windows 7. the only versions it doesnt support is xp pro x64 edition (what i use) and windows server 2003...but if anyone is using the and wants to use the microsoft version of messenger give me a message and i can help you out to get them to run if you need it

on my spare uberPC I've got the new windows 7...

it goes OK except there's no windows mail as in Vista.... and I tried the new Live Mail ....

pharrke me ded.... it just threw up all this redundent fcrap,, pointless 3rd party feeds from other sites.... and I had trouble even finding any mail....

I deleted it..... shiite.... resource sucking crud....

I believe there's a hack to run vista windows mail in W7.... thunderbird refuses to work in mine.. at this stage even..... it won't recognise servers...
I like the media centre to run my TV card though, which XP doesn't have... and it's lighter than Vista, quicker to load. .... it'll be OK....soon....

mail... grrr... ..I do find the windows mail in Vista useable... compared to most...

webmail is a pain in the A.. chasing different accs....

Memory?...

it's cheap atm.... I've got 4G of Geil 1066 uncranked....... with 2 slots empty....
life isn't about living in denial......

I've just bought 2 ex gov P4XP machines to "donate" to needy people... good and fast...
dinosaurs though .... the vista /W7 media centre is good.... XP is lame....
I had a serious hard time trying to get a TV card going on the XP machines... or using an old XP MCE edition ... it had a 3rd party tv player sorta.... then threw up all these messages when I took the card out... took me ages to sort it.... to give away....

a reinstall of the original XP cured it...
move on PC sters..... digital is here..... TV on my monitor with gpu backup... craps on normal TV... even with digi boxes....

There are inherent issues with each new release of a updated IM program. As well as the occasional hiccups with people on your friends list having an older version and you the new one or vice versa (missing text, emotes looking funny, messages coming out blank etc etc) until just about everyone is on the same version then MOST of the problems go away (until the next update)

There are literally heaps of IMs nowadays, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, Trillian, Paltalk, Skype, etc etc.

Most Australian computer magazines usually have the latest IM program updates on their cover cd's or dvd discs. Very useful for those of you who wish to update and still have dialup.

Check them out at your local newsagent. I havent seen it in a while, but sometimes local libraries have the same to loan out , but Im not sure if they retain the disks for use by the public.

Oh and Beachippy, try and locate the original software for any TV analog/digital tuners you have in a PC, I find they work a lot better than Media Centre. Im an ex -computer tech and Ive always had issues with TV cards and just about any version of Media Centre. Hopes this helps ya

mmm? I've got 3 different TV cards... which I swap between vista and W7 PC,s at random...... none of the software from the cards is on the PC's...

yet both media centres recognise the cards instantly... and show the same quality images.... plus it's easier to record and set timers on MC within windows.... not having to run extra outdated programs.....

I've had more issues with XP and TV

using debian linux here (backtrack4 build), have a handfull of eMSN's and alike to choose from.
i remember the joys of windows, a new service pack every other day, and blue screens of death on the days between .
you could download a linux distro, some of them would be the same size as MSN lol.
