| What's the WHOLE story with success stories? Posted: 9/18/2009 2:27:23 PM | Obviously there's only ME who will think along these lines but, “success stories” mean absolutely nothing to me as they are indeed stories from only a few people who are willing to share it. But does that mean that ALL stories are just as encouraging as those? What about all the other stories like “Bad experiences”, “We met, and never met again”, “Oh dear God what was I thinking”, or what have you?
When companies announce that many people have noticed X, Y and Z encouraging things, well am “I” the only one who stops and wonders “Well, what about the A, B and C groups”?
So why do people keep getting hooked on all the “success stories” in MANY different venues (Weight loss, new products etc..)?

My head is under a dark stormy cloud (nothing related to this site I'm happy to say) but, there are some things going in my life that has transferred onto my being annoyed with all of these “success stories”.
I thank you again! | |

| What's the WHOLE story with success stories? Posted: 10/4/2009 8:12:14 PM | Well, if you want the horror stories, you really just need to spend a few minutes a day on the forums to feel properly jaded. I honestly can't believe some of the things I read there!
I wish there were MORE success stories. My feeling is that most people who do find someone just leave without saying anything, so we'll never know the outcome. I'm pretty sure that most of them aren't like me and my bf, who still hang out on the forums for the entertainment. I'd love to see some "real" statistics, but I suspect that will never happen.
Hope things look up for you, OP.

But really, who wants to hear those? People want (need!) hope. That's how you sell. That's how you get people to try new products, join new sites, etc. If companies advertised the negative, do you think they'd have much success? Definitely not.
Haha, pay attention to most weight loss ads/commercials. In small print at the bottom it usually says, "Results not typical". Haha, that makes me chuckle every time.
Speaking for myself, I like hearing the success stories. I have too many "unsuccess" stories of my own, I really don't need to hear of anybody else's. lol.
Dum spiro spero*. Dum spiro spero. Dum spiro spero. *repeating to self* Haha. :-)

Winning all the time would make life very dull.

Just as well we're not bitter, jaded and envious of these clowns.

| What's the WHOLE story with success stories? Posted: 11/14/2009 2:45:01 PM | Well, I for one am a POF success story.
If you want to read the bad experiences, just read all the other forums, starting with Broken Hearts. There are a lot more bad experiences than good ones, obviously because we all are going to have a lot of disappointments before we find what we are looking for. And like me, not everyone who has a "happy ever after" doesn't post a "testimonial" in the forums. The only testimonials I care about are the ones that my sweetie and I put on each others profiles.

| What's the WHOLE story with success stories? Posted: 11/16/2009 5:34:07 AM | I'm another success story. In fact, if it hadn't been for the well wishes of many women on here who clicked with a sonnet I wrote to one person ( and waited for, I did not correspond with anyone else for a date - I waited for HER), I wouldn't have met the most incredible woman who had graced my life.
My story will continue - if you knew the set of miracles behind it, it would be a script for a Lifetime movie.
The success of an online venue is pretty dependent on the hope in your heart, the sincerity of your words, and the positiveness of your attitude. I had some lessons to learn along the way, if you knew some of the bad experiences I have had before I met my wonderful girl, I could probably type quite a few "broken hearts" posts.
He who finds diamonds must grapple in mud and mire because diamonds are not found in polished stones. They are made.
If you revel in the negativity - more negativity follows.
My story is fairly well outlined in my profile. The only testimonial is from the girl who captured my heart, because she is my only "favorite" - I didn't have a "back up" plan. I would have waited a long time to hear back from her if I had to. And I'm an impatient Aries.
Good luck. | |
