| A weight problem... Posted: 9/21/2009 10:35:16 AM | Mostly...it is self discipline. But here are a few tips. Drink a couple of glasses of water first and even possibly one of those off brand fiber orange flavored crap. Not only is the water going to help fill you up...but the fiber expands some and is good for keeping you "scrubbed".
Don't let the fridge be your plate. Set something out that is reasonable in amount and then...try to not hit the fridge for at least 30 minutes. It takes the brain awhile to catch up to the stomach.
Make a journal and see what and when triggers the cravings. Find something to do, away from food, when they are most likely to be coming.
Stay away from the "golden arches".
If you cannot avoid the junk...at least force yourself to eat some of the "good stuff" and leave the junk for reward for eating well and/or exercising.
Look at the labels. Skim is best, 1% ok, 2% better than whole and whole is insane. Once you start...you may find these habits equally addictive.
Get off the computer and walk.

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/21/2009 11:38:19 AM | Yeah, wouldnt really call it cravings....its probably a mix of emotional eating/boredom, eating low nutrition food that doesnt satisfy, and probably some roller coaster ups and downs with your blood sugar...
Seriously, if you have a REALLY bad diet, you can lose a lot of weight by just going healthy....
Get all of the crap out of your house and dont eat out ever...problem solved...

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/21/2009 2:06:13 PM | - Remove ALL soda/pop from your house and do not buy it again. Stop drinking it all together.
- Do NOT go to ANY fast food places what so ever. I don't care if they have a healthy choice... do not go.
- Stick to the outer edges of the grocery store. Buying only fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fresh meats, etc. If all you have in your fridge is carrots and hummus.... guess what you are binging on in stead of junk???
- Buy ONLY enough food for the week. Sit down and plan a menu of 6 SMALL meals a day for the week. Buy only the food for that menu. You can't binge if you don't have the food to binge on.
- Find a hobby! Even if the only hobby you can come up with is taking some healthy cooking classes. This will fill up your time and cause you to forget your body thinks it's hungry. Get out of the house. Go read at a coffee shop. Only take enough money to buy a small cup of something (I suggest hot tea).

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/21/2009 2:07:28 PM | | Hi there. I have a weight problem too. I recently have been seen to come to find out my weight problem was due to a syndrom called PCOS (PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrom) and basically all the carbs I have eaten have gone to the fatty parts of my liver. Besides the meds I've been prescribed (ones diabetic the other is an appetite suppresent called Phentermine) they put me on a life long low carb diet. For the past 2 months I have been doing this diet... no white food at all... white bread, potatoes, rice, noodles (even high fiber) has been eliminated from my diet. I'm doing less than 10 tsp. of sugar a day, so look at the labels. Subtract carbs from fiber and thats how many tsp. of sugar is in what you are eating. If you do this, and eat small small portions thruought the day, you'll see changes. Also, drink lots of water, and no alcohol. IF you don't like water too much, crystal lite can be counted. Since July I have lost 40 lbs. I'm pretty sure the meds have helped as well, but i'm preparing myself and my body for this diet to be life long, even when i'm off the meds. Phentermine won't be a forever one. Good luck to you! | |

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/21/2009 4:26:09 PM | Just eat different foods and try and get more active. Being active will help with being board and you wont eat as much just sitting around , but if your eating proper food and going to the gym you end up eating alot of meals its just cause they contain proper nutrition you are not hungry again in 15 minutes.
8 am usually I eat 6 egg whites with 1 whole egg, 1/2 cup oatmeal and an apple and a protein shake made with 8oz milk. 11 am 1/2 cup cottage cheese , 1 oz mixed nuts (unsalted) 2pm 8-10 oz chicken or beef and 2veggies (if you eat salad, use balsalmic/italian) 430pm - 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1 apple 6 pm 8-10 oz chicken or beef and 2 cups of veggies prework out shake postworkout shake Before bed I usually eat 1/2 cup cottage cheese as well
You can add fish in for the chicken or beef, I just dont like seafood so I stick to chicken or beef and just take fish oil in shakes with flaxseed oil. I pretty much aim for 8oz of water with almost everything I eat +whenever you get thirsty or I drink more while working out. If your carving sweet food I find diet pop helps alot, and if you dont like the taste of egg whites just find a hot sauce you like and cover them in it :)
Eating that often and staying active should really help out , I use to be the same way and did a 180 on the lifestyle thing and its worked pretty good for me , im down 102 lbs since March
Best of luck, getting started is the hardest part once you start to lose the weight the motivation comes by itself.

OK here's my problem, I'm trying to loose weight but I find my cravings for random binge eating is what's killing any shot I have a real weight loss. Does anyone have any advice on curving my appetite? Yep.
There are two types of signals to eat.
1 - From Brain
2 - From Stomach / CNS
Only listen to the Stomach, learn to filter out what your brain is telling you.
The rest is will-power and common sense.
If you should not eat it, do not buy it or keep it in your house.

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/22/2009 6:05:04 PM | | Keto diets are great...a lot of meat, salads, basically all protein...lose the carbs. Join a gym, use it and make permanenet life style changes. Some are not in favor of low carb or keto diets, but they DO work and you will NOT be hungry all the time on them. E mail me if you want some suggestions. | |

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/22/2009 7:00:56 PM | Random binge eating on SALAD = good. Random binge eating on PIZZA = bad. Takeout message: Binge on Good food. Eat the entire head of lettuce without salad dressing. Can you do that? No? Because you don't want to amirite. Seriously look at the consequences of your eating habits. Any diabetes in the family, incidence of colon cancer, metabolic syndrome, hypertension? Any of that stuff scare you enough to change your eating habits? If no and no to both, If you're fine living life with a few extra pounds, then continue eating the way you want to. Pizza is bad but I never said it didn't taste ridiculously awesome | |

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/22/2009 7:25:56 PM | | You do have to eat enough food that you aren't hungry or you will be tempted to nibble all day and all night. Space your meals and snacks out maybe every three to four hours if you can. Try keeping some vegetables cut, like chopped celery, green peppers, carrots, whatever you like. They have lots of nutrition and fiber to help keep you from being hungry. I've eaten lots of things for breakfast that are not traditional breakfast foods because it was convenient for me, healthy and helped to keep me from being hungry. I didn't meet anybody else's expectations on breakfast food, but it worked for me. | |

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/22/2009 7:38:41 PM | One tip that help me either pass on something or not have so much is to remind myself I'll eat again later.
The other big one for me was to know what the calorie count of that food I have trouble saying "no" to is. Knowing that an order of fries is 300+ calories sure takes the fun out of them, lol.

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/23/2009 8:48:49 PM | Whatever you really love eating, stop eating it. Or at least, don't stock it in your house.
For instance, I LOVE peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And while every fitness person on the planet will say how a spoonful of peanut butter can be good for you, I know that I will never stop with one spoonful. So, I stopped buying it. If it isn't in your house, you can't eat it.
Allow yourself a day to have what you want, but be moderate. If you normally get two slices of pizza, get one. Seriously, you will feel satisfied after the first piece.
Try packing a lunch. Mix it up. Morningstar makes some great fake burgers. They are good for sandwiches. Skinny Cow makes low fat ice cream sandwiches.
Picture yourself being skinnier and then go out and do it. It's hard, and it's mostly self discipline. It won't happen over night, but it will happen if you stick to it.

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/23/2009 9:16:44 PM | Cravings can happen for a variety of reasons, including what one is craving. Used to have cravings for sweets because I thought the sweets would provide the energy boost I needed or would soon need. So I discovered eating whole healthy foods beginning with breakfast helped. Because things like whole wheat cereals, or eggs and toast and some fresh fruit would provide the extended energy I would need for hours and hours.
The biggest mistake I made was not eating protein be it some fish or chicken. Some of us simply need protein more than others. And I had to learn to actually eat meals since I had become a widow and was grabbing food rather than eating food. What do you have for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a couple snacks per day? What liquids do you drink?

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/24/2009 6:22:28 PM | | a full length mirror should be all the motivation you need to get rid of any food cravings. ther's enough information out there that ignorance about proper exercise and nutrition is the poorest excuse there is. so read a book or read a hundred of them and get in the gym and do what needs to be done. | |

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/25/2009 11:03:37 AM | | You are using food for a reason if you are binging. AKA Boredom, depressed, upset, anger, frustration, etc. If you feel like picking up food, try to do something else instead. | |

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/27/2009 7:00:16 AM | First you have to make sure you can recognize a CRAVING vs HUNGER. One is mental, the other is physical. If you are craving something, the only way to satisfy it is either to indulge or overcome the mental desire. If it's something you crave way too often (be honest with yourself), then you have to break the desire. It sounds intense and for some people it is, just fill yourself up on veggies and water, chew gum, etc. Take your mind off it as well. I can easily go 8+ hours without eating when I'm working in the recording studio. (Not that I would)
If you are hungry, eat. Simple as that. But don't stray from the diet you've set for yourself, if you need a snack, make it healthy. But hunger IS your body's way of telling you it needs food, cravings are something different.

| A weight problem... Posted: 9/27/2009 7:52:13 AM | Things like sugar free jelly can be good to snack on when you get the urge. A favourite of mine is a tub of Quark with a sachet of Options Hot Choc powder mixed in - makes a lovely choc mousse.
If you really cant control the urges, there are appetite suppressants out there that work.
