| BCMC Trail Hike, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver!! Posted: 9/21/2009 3:21:08 PM | THIS WILL BE OUR LAST HIKE OF THE SEASON!!!
Interested in a good work out but find the Grouse Grind too busy? Why not try the BCMC Trail instead? It's a less crowded and slightly longer alternative to Grouse Grind.
***Please note the change in time for this hike***
While not quite as intense as the Grind...don't kid yourself...it ain't easy!! It's still a hike up a mountain and it's steep! Many have found this trail too challenging so please know your limitations.
Street address for Grouse Mtn is 6400 Nancy Greene Way, North Vancouver
WHEN: Sunday October 4, 2009
Meet Time: 9:00am for introductions
Start Time: 9:15am, departure from the Grouse Grind Gate.
End Time: However long it takes us, who's rushing?
Wind Up: At the coffee bar at the top
This trail is a slightly longer route to the Grouse Chalet, and has far less traffic. Scenery is similar, but the upper reaches of the trail cross through some old growth forest. As with all trails up Grouse, IT'S A STEEP TRACK and a good workout, and the usual cautions apply.
All levels of fitness are welcome. That being said...know your limitations and don't be afraid to voice them! If you need to stop and take a break, speak up. I generally stay back with slower hikers and will stop as often as needed.
Anyone who would like to join us should be at the gate to the Grind between 9:00am and 9:15am to allow for introductions and a departure time from the gate no later than 9:15am. Unless it's pouring buckets this event will proceed as scheduled.
This trail is relatively well marked but it is quite easy to get lost if you're not paying attention. Until you're very familiar with this trail I highly recommend sticking with the group. We will take as many breaks as you need to catch your breath.
You will need to wear a good pair of runners or hikers or similar sturdy shoe. Shorts, track pants or yoga pants will do. DO NOT WEAR JEANS. Wear layers (i.e. a tank top with a long sleeved shirt or light jacket) so that you can remove a layer once you start to get warm. It's getting a little cooler now, and since we'll be going up in the morning rather than the afternoon, you may find it a wee bit chilly depending on the weather. I suggest bringing a fleece pull over, or warm jacket for when you arrive at the top as it will most likely be chilly.
You will need to bring a water bottle filled with water or a sport drink. It's very important to be well hydrated for this hike. You'll need to drink lots of water the night before and the morning of the hike, as well as bring lots of water with you.
You may also wish to bring a power bar or a piece of fruit, something to snack on along the way.
It's also a good idea to bring some bug spray. Lots of bug spray...
You can check a change of clothing in at baggage check in Customer Service for $5. Alternatively, you can carry a backpack up yourself. Due to snowmelt and/or rain, it can get quite wet near the top, and there may be a small stream to walk through. You may wish to bring a change of footwear in case your runners/hikers get wet.
Feel free to join us, but please sign up so we know who to expect and keep an eye out for you. This is a great opportunity to make new friends who want to get/stay in shape!
Public Transit: The public transit system offers regular service to the base of Grouse Mountain every half hour. Catch Bus 232 from Phibbs Exchange or Bus 236 from Lonsdale Quay. For more details, visit the Translink website: http://tripplanning.translink.bc.ca/
Once you reach the chalet, you can hike back down or take the Grouse Mountain Skyride for a fee of $5.00 dollars.
I think that covers everything, but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me!
Looking forward to sweatin' with y'all!! Following Members are Attending This Party... Average Member Brings Along 3 Guests

| BCMC Trail Hike, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver!! Posted: 9/28/2009 11:07:13 AM | | That sucks, all the other hikes I wanted to do, I couldn't make. Wanted to come out there on the next hike. Sucks I was in a really bad car accident last Thursday, so hiking is out of the question, sign. | |

| BCMC Trail Hike, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver!! Posted: 9/29/2009 8:22:46 PM | I would like to attend this group as I completed the Grind last week for the very first time. I think I completed it in one and a half hours. I was shocked to find that I had only completed 1/4 of the Grind by the first post! I was actually seriously wanting to go back and thought that I would never make it! Now I want to try an alternative route and see if I can beat my time. It was a struggle, but I sense the more you do it, the fitter you become! | |

| BCMC Trail Hike, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver!! Posted: 9/30/2009 10:00:12 AM | An hour and a half is a great time for your first Grind! Kudos to you AL25!!
This is a slightly longer route to the top, but also slightly (and I do mean only slightly) easier trail, so don't be surprised or disappointed if your time is the same or longer than your Grind time.
Either way I figure it's an accomplishment to make it to the top! There are many that can't.
Apparently the weather is supposed to be good that day so keep your fingers crossed everyone!
See y'all Sunday! | |

| BCMC Trail Hike, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver!! Posted: 10/3/2009 5:11:49 PM | Hey Miss B - I'm still planning on attending tomorrow, but I've been a bit under the weather, so just in case it gets the best of me, I'll have to stay home. Crossing my fingers though & hope the sunshine holds!
