| goals? Posted: 9/22/2009 9:31:54 PM | Baby steps. 5% body weight loss, around 12 pounds or so, over the next little while. If I hit that target, then I'll try for another 5% loss.
Other goal is to walk 30 minutes every day. Like I said, baby steps. I currently can't be back in the gym due to a wrist injury that makes my day-to-day life a living nightmare sometimes (no one's sure what's going on, just had an MRI on Friday, had a bone scan, several x-rays, blood tests and will be pushing for an arthroscopy here soon) so doing any sort of weights or stuff is not possible.
My goals seem silly but.. *shrug* every little bit helps.

| goals? Posted: 9/23/2009 7:21:02 AM | | I’m trying to loose weight right now and I’ve recently lost 15 lbs. I’m not sure how much more that I need to loose but will go by the mirror and tape measure. I thought I would start trying to bulk up around Thanks Giving and take advantage of some of those extra calories. Then towards the end of Jan, beginning of Feb I would begin getting ready for the summer. Maybe 2010 will be the summer of a cut bod. | |

A man putting on 15 pounds of new lean muscle tissue in a YEAR -- is at the top of his class.
7-10 pounds new lean mass this winter? 3 short months?
|
| goals? Posted: 9/23/2009 1:31:00 PM | Just reached a goal of being able to support my entire bodyweight off the floor on just my thumbs and fingertips.
Next goal is to do a one arm pull up. NOT the way Sly was doing it in Rocky IV where he had one hand on the bar and the other hand on his wrist. He was still pulling with both arms, just anchored in a different spot. I'm talkin' about pull ups with completely one arm only.
|
| goals? Posted: 9/23/2009 6:14:14 PM | | I am sure I can reach my goal. 1 I havent lifted in years so my body will respond good to it. 2 I don't mess up my eating. I eat perfect, same time everyday and same food ( besides my 2 cheat meals a week ) I will be taking supplements like prohormones and others and maybe the few designer steroid that are still legal on the market ( only for the next few month then cuz the fda is in the process of getting them banned ) | |
|
| goals? Posted: 9/23/2009 6:37:32 PM | My goal is to start bulking in the winter. I would like to gain another half inch on my arms and two inches on my chest. That would give me 17 inch arms and a 50 or so inch chest. It would be nice to get my waste down to a 34 but that wis tough when you bulk as you are eating to gain mass. I will cut come spring | |

|
| goals? Posted: 9/26/2009 12:36:52 PM | reached my goal of 10 reverse chin ups today
next goal to reach 5 lat pull ups ... they are so hard and have only managed 3 reps so far.

| goals? Posted: 9/27/2009 2:32:45 PM | My goal is to drop to 200lbs by my 40th birthday, Dec 9. I'm 222 right now. Gym, biking and eating better is how I'm doing it.
I go to the gym Mon - Wed - Fri, bike to work every day, and then do more biking on my cardio days. When winter hits I think I'll take up swimming for cardio, as I don't look too tragic in a bathing suit.
I just want to be lean and look good. Once I hit 200, I'll evaluate myself then. Maybe 190 or 180 is where I'll end up.
I topped out at 270lbs a few years ago. I don't know what it was or why I had let myself go. I never noticed the weight creep up and up. I hated looking in the mirror, I hated pics of myself, I didn't recognize myself anymore. It all came crashing down Sept 08. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It wasn't a surprise, but it was a wake up call.
So I started slowly. Ditched sugar, obviously. Started biking, and going to the gym. I was "that fat guy who comes to the gym every day" I didn't care. I wasn't there for them I was there for me. Slowly the scale started to move. I did like what I was eating, didn't miss all the crap. I knew vaguely how long it took to burn say 100 calories on the eilliptical, so if I read the label on some food, junk, that was 300 calories say, I know I would have to spend a half hour to burn those calories off. It wasn't worth it to me.
Just kept at it, dropping about 2.5lbs a week. After a while, I was no longer "that fat guy who comes to the gym every day" I was slowly turning into "that guy who comes to the gym all the time, who used to be fat" It was a nice feeling. I was starting to recognize myself again.
I didn't think "ok I'm 270, and I want to be 200. God damn, that's 70lbs" 200 was my long term goal, my immediate goal was always the next 10lbs. "ok, I'm 270, lets shoot for 259" I dropped through the 260s, then when I was at 259, it was "lets work towards 249, it's only 9lbs away, 7lbs, 4lbs, boom, 249. Lets work towards 239" and so on and so on.
The lowest I got to was 213lbs, then a few things came up. I run sound as a hobby, and was stuck at a festival with nothing to eat but hot dogs and hamburgers. I took it easy, but still. Then our fridge broke at work, so I was doomed to eat subway for 3 weeks. (FML) I got back up to around 228lbs or so. So starting there, I'm back down to 223. Looking to break through the 220's and so on and so on.
On a good note, with the exercise, eating, and weight loss, my diabetes meds have been reduced by 50%. My glucose levels (A1C) are lower than a person without diabetes (they want you to be at 7% as a diabetic. A normal person is 6%. I started at 9% when I was diagnosed, and I'm at 5.4% now) , my LDL cholesterol is perfect, (1.38, they want you less than 2.0) my triglicerides are low (0.47, they want you less than 1.7) and my blood pressure is 120/70
So everything is going in the right direction, I just want to trim down to lean and mean. I've gone from a size 44" waist to a size 36" waist. My goal is to have a 32" or even 30" waist. I know it's bad to post this stuff, since people (women) might think "OMG he was a fatty, and could get like that again" Believe me, I don NOT want to ever be like that again. I know an older guy in town who has had both legs cut off due to diabetes. I do NOT want that happening. I'm kinda interested in someone anyway. Mainly here to chill in the forums, so it doesn't really matter "what everyone thinks"
I might even be able to get off the meds once I hit my goal!!!
:)
Oh yeah, a great book to read is The Abs Diet, by Mens Health. Lots of great information in there. Mens Health is also a great mag to read as well. When I'm done I think I'll whore my before and after pics around to the highest bidder.
"oh yeah, I lost all this weight with Hydroxy cut" or "oh yeah, I ate nothing but the salads at McDonalds" or "Lean cuisine, that's what did it for me"
The fools! *evil grin*

|
| goals? Posted: 9/27/2009 8:40:10 PM | | I want to loose 3" around my waist by mid-December. I don't care about "weight" 'cause I also do resistance training... which kinda throws the whole weight thing out the window. I've lost 4" around my waist (about 1" a month), and still weigh within a couple lbs (205) of what I did 4 months ago. | |

| goals? Posted: 9/27/2009 9:43:22 PM | When I first started this journey, my only goal was to get healthy. With in the first two months, my blood pressure and blood sugar dropped to the point of no more need for medication. THEN.... my inhaler use (I've had asthma since I was 7) has gone to never.
Today... I put on a new size jeans, making it my TENTH pant size I have dropped.
At this point, I am trying to figure out what my next goal WILL be. Continue to eat healthy and work out, of course. But I think I my goal will be to stop stepping on the scales. I seem to be losing inches faster than weight.
As for weight lifting, I don't have a specific number I wanna get to. I just wanna go heavier and heavier as my body allows.
|
| goals? Posted: 9/28/2009 6:23:11 AM | I've dropped two pant sizes since I started this journey, though lately I've drifted off the wagon a bit. Perhaps it is because during the summer I had nothing else to do but go to the gym and work out. Now, I have work, which makes me feel like a trainwreck at the end of each day. Plus, I hurt my shoulder a few weeks ago so I haven't been able to bench much or do any major workouts except for legs at all.
So, really, I'd like to do more cardio because I figure if I can't do many movements with my shoulder, I can at least drop some more weight. I've love to get down to around 250lbs, as I haven't seen that number since 10th grade. Right now I am at about 285lbs. I was 330lbs when I started.

| goals? Posted: 9/28/2009 9:33:44 AM | | ^^^I actually have the opposite problem...I do better in the late fall and winter working out when there is less to do in the garden, etc.....It took me pretty much all summer to lose a couple more inches off my waist...next goal is the last 2 inches or 10 pounds and work to keep the muscle that I gained this summer. | |

| goals? Posted: 9/28/2009 10:19:56 AM | | My new goal is to survive my next boxing class tonight :) | |

| goals? Posted: 9/28/2009 12:42:18 PM | start the bulk on October 1st... and get up to 250ish by march.... | |
|
| goals? Posted: 9/28/2009 5:48:21 PM | | I survived! Now tomorrow is regular workout day. I noticed tonight I can start to see some muscle in my ab region. yes! | |
|
| goals? Posted: 9/28/2009 9:26:58 PM | Current weight goal = 170-175 lbs Current weight 150 lbs
After that I'd like to get at or below 7% body fat.. not sure where I'm at now cause I'm still in the weight gain phase.
After that I'd like to get my cardio much much better and just maintain everything else from there.
|
| goals? Posted: 9/28/2009 10:59:18 PM | My goal is to eat healthy and exercise, and be "height/weight proportional" which means "normal" on the health charts for my height.
I work out daily 45 minutes on the eliptical at level 11, and do a half hour of lifting weights, 30 sit-ups, and yoga stretches. This summer I have done a lot of bike riding. I can go about 28 miles distance on paved trails in one outing. I've lost 40 lbs this way, and want to loose 20 more eating healthy.
My biking goal is to comfortably go 35 miles. I want to try going with a group that just started in my area, and eventually I would like to do charity bike rides.
I set diet and exercise goals January 1st, that I have all met. I never make a resolution I don't think I can keep, so I have accomplished all my resolutions for many years now. I make lifestyle changes, then tweak them as I see how they are working for me.
Once I gave up using table salt for a year, because so many people in my age group were doing that, but I have very low blood pressure, and I started fainting. So that "lifestyle change" had to go.
Another time, I gave up sugar for a year and accomplished the goal, but decided to go back to occasionally eating sugar so as not to be a fanatic about it. I will sometimes have sweets at parties, for instance, but sugar makes me very sleepy so I don't eat much of it anymore.
I "gave up" drinking alcohol one year, and that lasted 30 years. I just never liked drinking to begin with, I guess. But after turning 47, I decided to re-evaluate this and began having a glass of wine with dinner occasionally, which is turning out to be very nice for social situations, also. I now have a goal of trying to find wines without sulfites added.
I had a goal of doing an elimination diet two years ago, and what I learned helped me to stay on my current "diet," GF/CF, which is really an eating style that happens to be really healthy and I have been loosing weight naturally with it. I love the way I eat now, and it really works for me. My energy level is way up when I am sticking to it, and I don't get cravings for anything. The hardest thing is planning ahead for going out and travelling so I can stay eating this way all the time.
This summer I did a 3 week cleanse, and it felt really good. I think I will set a goal of doing that one again each year. Eventually, the "after-cleanse" diet might be one I could stay on indefinitely. So that might be my goal for next January.
My latest goal is to eat most of my food grown locally and in my own garden. For exercise, I want to stay with what I am doing now, modifying things for the season until I get to 135 lbs. which is a good weight for me. I want to get back to dancing and doing yoga more in the fall and winter. My dancing goal is to learn advanced swing.
I do some Chi Gong, which is really energy work, not exercise. I would love to learn Tai Chi which is more about balance.
I am adding walking back into my regular routine because I like seeing my neighbors and watching the fall color changes. I wish I had a dog to join me, since they love walking and will drag you out in any weather!
I just read a very unusual book about health and longevity and I am setting some goals from the author's recommendations.
The thing I have learned about setting goals for myself, is that it can't be a goal like "loose 20 lbs very quickly" or "get to a certain dress size" or "weigh X amount." Because those usually don't work. Its like "diets" don't work. I have to make a lifestyle change that I can do "permanently," unless there are problems with it. I experiment on myself making a lifestyle I can live with and enjoy and be content, and I change what I do so it isn't boring, but I do the same amount of exercise.
I've also learned that my body remembers what I learned from doing each sport over the years. So it is easier to go back to being athletic now since I have been feeling better, than if I had never done any athletic sport. So whatever you do is worth it, even if you have to give it up for a while for illness or other reasons.
