Yahoo IM question

This should be an easy enough answer and I think I already know what you're all going to say, but I wanted to ask anyway.

Here's the deal. I use Yahoo IM. Well the other day I come home from work and turn the monitor on - I see a small error message box (from Yahoo IM) telling me something along the lines of "incorrect password, try again." Now, my gut tells me that someone had to physically be at the keyboard and tried to have logged in, in order for that message to have appeared (it has never appeared before that I can remember).

Strange thing is I keep my "remember password" box checked so I never need to type it in.

Any ideas on this? Before I go off accusing someone of something is there any possible way that message could have come up without someone physically trying to use that particular computer?

No, there is no chance at all, the odds are they were at your keyboard physically, but remote access isnt as "james bond technology" as people think.

If your IM client usually has the user/pass in and when you come to it it wasnt in then at some point the pass was removed by the user, maybe they signed in on their own account, and then to stop you from knowing re-entered your user name and found the password didnt come back...

What ever happened, what ever the reason, the fact is somebody used it in order for it to happen, it cant happen on its own, somebody invoked it.

If you are concerned about having someone access your IM account and you need to share your computer with others in your home, here is a tip that may help, if you are using a Windows computer.

Set up "User accounts" and password-protect your account. Sometimes it is enough to have your account password-protected and enabling the "Guest" account, which is turned off by default. When you leave your home remember to log off your account.

You should find User Accounts in Settings/Control Panel.

Thanks all - I figured as much. I just wanted to make sure before I went off on the person responsible.
