Is your macbook too hot?

If your macbook is too hot you might want to get to the apple store to get the thermal grease taken off and reapplied. Apparently plenty of macbook has too much thermal grease on the cpu/gpu and chipset.

Here is a link showing how bad it is (shows pics)

I looked at the pictures and really didn't see what the problem was. Before you say if something is too hot, you have to find out the design spec's of that particular system. It was brought up before if the newer mac mini's ( That use the Intel Core 2 Duo, the same one used in the macbook pro ) were too hot, but its normal for them to run at a higher temperature.

Cool dude I hope you're kidding, either you need new glasses or you don't know how to apply thermal paste. In the pictures you can see the thermal compound is all over the cpu the correct way is only to put a pea size amount then spread it. What they used in those pics is obviously more than 3 times the amount needed. This will cause heat issue because the paste will prevent proper heat transfers.

Yeah, after using my pro for about 30 minutes it'll start to seriously burn to the touch. Can't really use it on my lap.

Your macbook is not meant to be used on your lap...in fact we in technical support refer to them by their name ie macbook or macbook pro or as a portable computer. Soft surfaces interfere with the computer's air circulation since it is done from underneath. You should use your macbook on a firm flat surface, this should help to reduce the over-heating.

I had ...well, still have a iBook G4 that had an issue with it heating up and one day it stopped working.
I researched it and found out my model Mac was defective and the gpu separated from the logicboard when it heated up so I sent it in for service (apple care) and they sent it back and said they wouldn't fix it ...Sooo, that was the last Mac I will ever buy unless they decide to make good on it.

Whenever I'm tempted to get another, I think about my $1,200 paperweight and the urge to get one goes away

I've been buying Dells since then and have accidentally dropped them(notebooks) and Dell would fix them without any hassles.

I am neither kidding or need new glasses. The max safe temperature for a Intel core 2 duo is 212 degrees Fahrenheit ( Depending on model ) Perhaps if you did a little research before posting you would know that too.

I see too many posts on how hot the macbooks & macbook pro tend to be explained away by bad application of thermal compound. Unless these laptops are constantly shutting down due to the thermal protection circuit, I don't think it would be a problem.
