The Angels victory was a victory to celebrate and they did,but was it proper to celebrate pouring champagne over the jersey of Nick Adenhart? As most sports fans know Adenhart was killed by a drunk driver in April.

In my opinion I think the team should have asked Adenhart's family how they felt before pouring champagne over his jersey....How do you fans and non fans feel?

I don't see anything wrong with it. The idea was that he was still there in spirit.
Now, if they had taken a quad out onto the field after drinking the champagne and ran over his jersey with it, then I'd see reason to complain.

The sad thing; 4 people were killed and I do believe the family should have been asked before the team poured the champagne....

Pouring champagne, celebrating after winning your division is a baseball tradition.

It's not a tradition if they're pouring it on a player's jersey that was killed by a drunk driver......

i think it was just a way for the team to say that even though hes not here, he is not forgotten, and i think all the team was doing was showing that. its not like he was drinking and driving!!

In the players memory Adenhart was still one of them. Gone but not forgotten.
It was the players way of celebrating with him.
I thought it showed respect for him. What if they did nothing?

Eh, it is a bit ironic, I guess. But if he had played this year, he would have wanted to be part of the celebration. Tough call, but I don't think it was necessarily in bad taste. I think this is one of those situations where you have to look more at the intent than the action. And the intent was obviously one of inclusion and celebration for a teammate that was not able to be there with them.

I think the people who have the biggest complaints about this are those who don't follow baseball and don't know the tradition.

The best part of all this is that the video and most reports don't mention the teammates in front of his locker with their heads bowed in prayer.

I would say they wouldn't.
I remember when the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd had the plane crash. The "Street Survivors" album come out on Monday Oct. 17, 1977 and the plane crashed on Thursday Oct. 20th, 1977. That killed two band members. The Street Survivors album cover was pictured with the band on fire and Van Zant and Gaines were in Flames. The families didn't like it and had the cover of the album changed.

Ok, I'm not a big baseball fan to begin with.... I'm a Lakers and USC Football fan... But I do follow baseball a little, and have been following the Angels... my local team here in Orange County.... But also have been following the Dodgers as well.

As far as Adenhart... He was a great loss.... both as a player and a person here... That accident was terrible.... Look, the players wear his number... They want to keep him a part of their team... They ran out to his number and picture in the outfield as well...

The Champagne celebration has nothing to do with drinking and driving.... They included him in the celebration as if he was there.

If he was shot down... this would be a non-story.... maybe even some would say how great it was for him to be included...

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DRUNK DRIVING...

...And everything to do with honoring him and keeping him close to the success of this team.

At this time there is nothing to indicate his family is upset, but this was a statement Chone Friggins made which I think was arrogant....Then the following statement was made by the media...

"He's our teammate," third baseman Chone Figgins said. "We're allowed to do what we want."

Not quite. Adenhart was also someone's son and a lot of people's friend. He's become a fallen hero to a lot of fans.

Until the irony was pointed out it never crossed my mind as of being in poor taste. The way I first saw it and still do, is that it was a way to honor their teammate.
