| Why are women attracted to musicians?
Posted: 7/9/2005 11:11:05 PM | We've all heard the cliche "groupie". What is it about that guy who plays guitar (or drums or sings...) that drives women wild? We know most guys in bands are "male sluts" and will sleep with just about anything so why are women always attracted to them??
When I was younger I was all over the band guys too....yes I'll admit it! But as I grew up, I steered clear of them. Well here I am, 10 years later bound and determined that I am destined to marry a musician. Hahahahaha!! I'm definitely attracted to them but now they don't wear the skin tight leather pants and have hair longer than me, LOL.
A few years back I chalked it up to the thought that he (meaning my future musician-type husband) would sing to our future kids. That thought in my mind of a guy playing the guitar for his baby still holds some attraction for me.
But the other day, I'm driving home.....flipping through the radio stations....on comes some classical piano piece. I stopped on that station for a minute. Then I had an epiphony of sorts.....we all know what comfort food is, right? Well, when I was little my mother used to play the piano. All my childhood memories contain music. I distinctly remember sitting on the piano bench beside my mother while she played. Then, as I was driving in the car, listening to that classical piano piece, it took me back to childhood....and my mother playing while I sat there. See a connection???.....um ya....
I've decided that musicians are my comfort food. Maybe not the best relationship choice, but hey....at least I think I know why *I* am attracted to them. | |

Posted: 7/10/2005 6:52:41 AM | I don't know, I just love them. I lived with one for about 8 months after my divorce and it was an interesting lifestyle. He didn't do drugs, but he drank too much sometimes (that's why I broke it up). He'd let me wear anything I wanted to wear, we went out about 2 times a week, and had fun together. If I could do it over again, I would in a heart beat. I dated 2 more musicians and they were awesome too.
I would never change a thing about going out with a musician. I love them too. But a lot of them are hard to find, nowadays, because most of them are getting married or are already involved with someone. Not that many of them are single. I don't know, but I love them too...

Posted: 7/10/2005 6:56:39 AM | hmm..i can play a mean kazzoo..does that count..i think its because they have a rebel quality to them. they are seen as outside the norm and have a sense of fearlessness also.i mean you wouldn't catch me dead singing on a stage..then again one to many shots of good scotch and a kareoke machine to close and i might be convinced.... | |

Posted: 7/10/2005 7:08:28 AM | Leana, I'll agree...most "band guys" now, are involved or married. I think the 80's lifestyle of excess--booze, drugs, and women---is gone. Now it's more of a job to them. Most guys I know who play in a band have day jobs. I remember back in the day when that was their job. They went on "tour" if you could call it that, haha, of say...Ontario. Playing a lot of sleezy little clubs all over.
I guess that would be why your guy drank too much sometimes....if you're always in a bar, you tend to drink, right?? What else is there to do? | |

Posted: 7/10/2005 11:02:53 AM | Well, he and his band only had gigs on the weekends at local clubs around Phoenix and that's okay if he dranked at the club (I did too), but when we were at home he would still drink (I never drank at home). If he kept his consumption, to only at the clubs, then it would had worked out...But he was a sweet, gentle guy. He could play a mean guitar...

I'll let you talk to my one very close male friend, who is in a band, and will tell you plain out that guys in bands are in fact, "loose". They really do take home girls every chance they can. Not sure why. Not sure if it is their personality to begin with or if being in a band made it easier. Who knows? | |

Posted: 7/14/2005 9:22:49 AM | hmmmm, I'm a musician myself, and there are 2 different musicians. theres the ones that understand the music and enjoy playing the music FOR the music, and theres the guys that are in a band because it gets them chicks. you cant take what your male friend says because he dosnt know every musician in the world, a true musician is more for the music.
sure he knows alot of men that are all for the one night stands but birds of a feather flock together, so obviously they wouldnt hang out with a guy like me who dosnt enjoy a one night stand and finds the idea degrading to women and themselves.
but my views arnt very popular so flame me if you want. | |

It's not as if I became a musician to meet women. It's something that I've always loved since I was a boy.
I've tried speed-dating too, and although women's responses seem to be on the lines of 'oh, how lovely to earn a living that way', they don't 'tick' me.
I suspect it's because, being a Londoner, the majority of women are looking for a rich guy, and make the assumption that I'm broke. Maybe I'm being cynical? Or maybe I'm right?
Anyway, the next time I go speed-dating, my response to 'what do you do' will be 'I work in the financial futures market', and see what happens. | |

Okay, I'll introduce you to all the pros I work with who are married or otherwise in committed relationships, some who have children, grandchildren, etc, some who have been in the biz since before you were born, I'm talking about musicians, not weekend warriers, not posers.
I started playing bars and clubs when I was 13, .... up until I was 18, I was like your friend, ....but I grew up.
In the last 25 years I've only had LTRs that I met away from the "scene". I'm also a single parent, like many of my brothers and sisters in the biz, the type of lifestyle your friend is into isn't a healthy one for a kid. | |

Posted: 7/15/2005 6:34:30 PM | | see ive been in many bands and i mean im not anything like super special im a fairly average guy, joke around alot just like to hang out...no different than a normal guy who doesnt play guitar like me...but when im in an active band i can get plenty of ladies compared to any of my non musician friends...I think its the whole scene really like when im on stage with my band and we are playing nobody is focused on anything else, like we are the most important people in the world i think that attracts women...the whole power role...plus I think women like a guy with talent in something and when its so shoved in their face like a concert i think its a turn on, at least thats what a few of my ex's have told me...and not ALL musicians are hornballs...lol... | |

TOTALLY a turn on to have a guy with talent in something. For me it's a childhood memory I think. My Mom played piano to me when I was tiny and all through my childhood I can remember sitting just listening to her play. I find I sit in awe with my musician boyfriends now.
The power role too...for sure. Right now, Dave Grohl of the Foos is one of the most influencial musicians of our time. And ya...I must admit...there is a total attraction. It's definitely because he is a fabulous musician but also because he writes some damn good tunes and looks good on stage!!  | |

Posted: 8/11/2005 3:40:59 PM | well....i'll admit i've always been drawn to the musical....especially bass players. in high school....it's because they were the different guys....the cool guys.
now...my jordyman is a singer/songwriter/guitar/piano player....and amazing. but it's mostly his passion for it. we both LOVE music...any kind of music. and even if we don't like it....we still get excited about it. but also it's his c0ckiness. you have to have that to try in a business that has loads and loads of people struggling to break into it. being with a guy who demands attention and respect is a turn on.
and he's been trained to do this...since he was 5. he's not just a strummer. he can PLAY. anyone who knows what they were born to do...and goes through hell to make it happen....is sexy to me. that drive, determination and soul felt passion carries over into everything else.
and c'mon...have you seen their fingers move? | |

I worked 6 nights a week & they were there. I must say , I had some real good times & loved it. Now I run from them! To much Drama! Either being on the road to make sure they are not screwing aything that walks or staying home & wondering what STD he will bring home! Give me a man with a 9 to 5 any day! | |

because they want to live vicariously through their success...they want the attention they will never get on their own, simply by association. I've known a lot of groupies and that was them to a T.

i've actually never understood the groupie thing. i'd much rather be the girl who knows the guys personally....who hears all the horror stories the morning after. but i guess the actual groupie girls just want a story...something to tell...or she thinks she'll actually be remembered. or she'll be so fantastic there will be a song about her amazing bj skills. some people will settle for second class fame rather than try to attain it themselves. | |
