Man Gets 2 Yrs For Swiping Car On 1st Date

Detroit Man Asked Date For Keys After Saying He Left Wallet In Car

Posted: 4:10 pm EDT October 2, 2009Updated: 4:19 pm EDT October 2, 2009

PONTIAC, Mich. -- A Detroit man has been sentenced to at least two years in prison for stealing a woman's car after skipping out on the check during their first date.

Twenty-four-year-old Terrance McCoy was sentenced Friday in Oakland County Circuit Court to two to 10 years in prison.

McCoy pleaded no contest Sept. 18 to unlawfully driving away a vehicle. A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as a conviction at sentencing.

Police say McCoy dined with the 27-year-old Southfield woman on April 24 at a restaurant in Ferndale. The woman told investigators McCoy said he forgot his wallet in her car and asked for the keys. Police say McCoy then took off in the car.

Defense attorney Terri Antisdale says McCoy is a "very nice man who made a bad decision."

That was her own air headed mistake. What she should have done, was walked him over to her car, and let him look for the wallet instead of handing him over her keys.

Bravo to you "johninsd" for doing rescue. Near and dear to my heart after 20 years as an animal control officer in ventura county calif. I checked out of calif. to buy that farm near a small town where everyone knows each other. Loving life after california!!

I have heard a similar story - a woman got pregnant after the man forgot the condom in his car.

Sorry, no sympathy for first date stupidity. However, I have read about worse dates right here on POF.

Hmmm, my line of thinking is if I felt safe enough to drive this man in my car to our date, I wouldn't think twice about giving him my keys to go grab his wallet. It's not that far-fetched of an idea to be legit. It doesn't say they met online, maybe they actually knew each other, in which case, why wouldn't you just hand your keys over to someone you knew to go retrieve something out of your car?

It's a funny story, but without knowing the details, I think it's a little unfair to say she was to blame for being a victim here.

There are so many things wrong with what happened there. I barley let my mom drive my car, I would never let someone I met on a first date drive my car. Specially with the old "I left my wallet in *insert place*" trick. Oh well, stupid is as stupid does.

“Maybe she felt the "chemistry" and the "sparks" were flying...”

Sudden surge of endorphin and serotonin “aka Chemistry” severely affects your judgment and make you do the most stupid things. Just watch Judge Judy. It’s all what it’s about...Also, if you notice, complainants are almost always female on Judge Judy.....

Ditto what tina7578 said.

Maybe he realized that he forgot his wallet at home and went to get it. If so, I think the sentence, if any, should depend on other factors. Had she let him borrow his car before? How far away was his house? Did he return to the restaurant? Too many unanswered questions from the article alone.

It was a tongue in cheek comment for the women that think they can know a guy in the first 10 minutes.....

shared several emails with a girl on here, talked 2 hours on phone last night. she lives? ten minutes away, made a meet and greet date for today. Today I confirm date, go to appointed place, no show. I check my voice mail and she has called back immediatly after the confirmation call, and says she wants to know who I am....she has not attempted to contact me all day...I think 99% of internet dating is bs. and you can call me in that percentage if you wish. but I know better. just posting this for all the ladies who think its only men that play games..

Sure. And then he realized he had a bit much to drink and slept over it to be safe. He definitely wanted to return it the next day - and he would have, if the cops had not shown up...

guess no one appreciates your humor

No one? guess again. If you would like me to direct you to a thread or two I can show you where some people think I am funny. As far as off line I can guarantee you that women I have been with and my friends all love my sense of humor. If someone doesn't like my sense of humor then we are not a match and life moves on.

maybe that's why your divorced and still looking

There are many reasons for my divorce but my sense of humor is not one of them. If you would like to discuss the details of the issues I would be glad to do that with you privately. At the same time we can discuss your separation.

your "short mans" syndrome sure is showing.

Napoleon complex is a colloquial term describing an alleged type of inferiority complex which is said to affect some people, especially men, who are short in stature. The term is also used more generally to describe people who are driven by a perceived handicap to overcompensate in other aspects of their lives.

Since I don't perceive my height to be a handicap and do not have an inferiority complex your attempt to diagnose what you perceive to be my problem doesn't quite hold water.

But hey, as long as you continue to get a laugh out of yourself by all means stretch the truth, fabricate, and hell even lie about whatever you want

I haven't written anything that was a stretch of the truth. We can peruse the aforementioned thread if you would like and easily back up what I said.

but do it at your own expense next time..

There are more than a few of my posts in which I make fun of myself. I could do that more if it would make you happy.
