What kind of guy do you want to marry?
Posted: 10/7/2009 8:28:05 PM
This is a question for women mostly, since they marry the guys (most often). What kind of guy do you want to marry? What qualities do you want and why? What qualities do you not want and why. Also people that are already married, what ar ethe qualitie sthat hooked you on "that one" guy that you married? I am 26 so I guess I should think seriously about marriage since I am not getting younger so, please feel free to answer the above questions : )

It might be redundant, but women really still don't know what they want. It used to be they looked primarily for a provider that was willing to take care of them for the rest of his life - but that was before "Sex and the City" corrupted them.

^^^Corrupted? Why would men WANT women to hunt down men to provide for them? Unless it was still 1957. Based on these forums, a lot of men seem to want to support women who sit around and eat out of their fridge. *shrug*

SATC is just a show, BTW. It's not a dating guide.

I want a friend first. Then I want everything else. I'm not looking for perfect, just perfect for me.
IMO you have to really know yourself, your values and beliefs, and what you're comfortable with and what you're "deal breakers" are before you can truly find the right person. This varies from person to person.
Honesty, Friendship, Humor, Intelligence, Compassion and Initiative are some big ones for me.

Hell no, go make that money honey. Why the heck would i want my woman sitting around at home?....idle mind is the devils workshop. A man who's confident in his woman & relationship wants his woman to be productive.

GAWD. Sex and the City was created WELL after women (in general) stopped thinking that they couldn't provide themselves. It REFLECTS social change--it didn't create it.

I would only marry a man I loved and respected...and for that he'd need to be kind, intelligent, at least a LITTLE socially conscientious, compassionate, productive, attractive (to ME), a good lover, and masculine (but not necessarily "MACHO"). I don't have any really rigid image in my mind of what this man would BE --men are different from one another and many different "types" can embody the qualities I've listed.

It's really easier to say with firmness what kind of man I WOULDN'T marry.

Find yourself a fella and see what you find out about your question.

Time change ideas .....and it keeps changing no matter what you think at the time.

I don't really seek to marry.

But my answer regarding the type or kind of guy I want in my life would remain the same regardless of our plans together for the future.

I want a man who says what he means - exactly.
And always means what he says.

Pretty well sums up in those two statements the small components which make that man the man.

Historically speaking I appear to be drawn to men who are somewhat ornery looking I guess, rakish in appearance, a bit of the "devil may care" nonchalant, casually yet confidentally aware of their own physical sexuality. Even men who are older, balding and over weight can have this "look" of boyish wickedness that for some reason seems to draw me like a magnet. But that charm only goes so far. If he's an idiot without any intellect that's not enough. The whole package has to be there.

In my corporate world, and when I was modeling professionally there were no limits of "pretty" men.

And I get weak in the knees for a guy in a suit. But a guy in faded Levi's with a white tshirt can be equally as magnetic and sexy.

It's the man.
Not a style.

Oh and tall.
I've never been attracted sexually to any man under 6'
ever.

Not into marraige but the man I want to spend the rest of my life with will be tall, razor sharp, decorated, professional, strong work and family ethic, a protector and providor, polite, charming and a devil in bed

edit: specifically on looks, not overweight, not a gym junkie, beautiful skin, tall, tall, tall..........did I say tall ?

Pffft! I don't have to be a lady to answer this one. The bad boys are for fun and getting laid while having a blast while you're young and single, but do you really want to marry your drug dealer or a day-laborer? No matter how hot he is or whatever he does for you, you're looking for something totally different when it's time to settle.

Here's what most women want when they are tired of being girls... That "not-bad" looking guy who was barely, if even, on the dating radar who now has the good job, nice pay and way better life-style than the rockstar you were flinging in/after highschool. He's the one who only recently could even put a matching outfit together and has one ex to each of your ten and who is just not up to par with your advanced game. That guy who is void of any negatives so you won't be annoyed, and who may even be a loving, faithful companion. That "good boy" who you're never going to tell your secrets to... yep, it's him. Not a ton of looks, or smarts, or anything that'll alter the balance of power, but enough of a secure life that you get to be a "homemaker" or do your own career while enjoying your memories and thinking that his breed came in useful afterall.

That's the marrying type. Sorry if I sound alittle to blunt here, but we're all grown-ups... well, count me out of that one. ha ha ha

I don't want to get married. I don't even want to live with anyone. I like living alone and I'm extremely pleased to be in a FWB relationship that has been going on for years...I see no reason for anything to change.

No matter how many times I see these checklists of the perfect mate, I am still amazed by them.

I often wonder... if the men described in these checklists posted the profiles of the women they wanted to spend the rest of their life with... how closely they would match up....

Think about it.

I want to marry a man who was born with a woman's body and who adjusted well and assumed almost all of the female characteristics of a natural woman but maintained the capacity to reason because he/she could not stand the prospect of living life as a series of random emotional episodes.

At this point even to imagine being married seems so far out of my realm it would be like asking me what options would I like on my yacht.

Oh, heckfire, that's easy. One who doesn't often feel a need to insult an entire species / gender / group of people as though they all were the same -- esp. by repeating an oft-made remark as though it were his own original humor.

Yeah, because women can't do any thinking without a show to rely on.

I am 26 so I guess I should think seriously about marriage since I am not getting younger so,

Riiiiight. Because after 25 women become old maids and spinsters so you lagging a year behind Im sorry but it looks dim for you since the men your age don't seem to be much worried about it but are out partying and banging some hot chick so just exactly who are you gonna marry because you're 1 year too old to be the trophy wife.

What do I want?
Let's start with the very very basic. A d!ck would be nice. Flat chested.

What the hell.... I'm aint sure I even believe in marriage so why am I answering this?

I might get back to ya on that.

And you're 26. What's the big rush rush.

And it's always women.

The community is not doing their Job or still sleeping, allowing this thread in which is clearly in the wrong category unless many men on POF have Turn GAY.

What kind of guy do you want to marry? The MOD should delete this thread.

Ok in hindsight what I've heard concerning many women, I think many women could of turned many men GAY.

My ideal guy. . .
Someone who clicks with me, we have a connection that is true. He was interested in getting to know me and not what he could get out of me and I him.

Someone who has similar goals, lifestyle and habits as me so life together is not a struggle or our individual goals/pursuits are not hindered.

Someone who gets me, who is on the same page as me to keep misunderstandings and drama at a minimum so we can play more.

Someone who likes a couple of the same indoor and outdoor activities as me so we can enjoy them together and are both willing to try new things as well (within our own boundary/comfort levels)

well. . .someone like that. . .
