Why not just pick some homeless bum on the street, give it to him and see if it inspires him to do great things.
I used to respect the Nobel Prize Commitee, no longer. It is way to early in his Presidency to say this man is a great President. All he has managed to accomplish is to print money and further put this country in debt.
I have great ideas myself, maybe they should have given it to me. Come on wake up and smell the award for what it really is, just the commitee rolling over for the left and trying to make something out of nothing. | |

I guess they are handing them out closer to the actual events taking place these days.
I'm sure Obama will match Carter's greatness in the annals of history. Won't be too hard I imagine.

I don't think Obama supporters understand the Worlds perception its not that they Respect Obama they want him to continue de-constructing America and weakening our Position in the World.Its kind of Ironic that another of the worst Presidents, one who caused as much damage to the US as Obama and his policies will also won the Nobel Prize...Jimmy Carter...guess that is a good indication of how much the prize really means....
This also shows that the World sees Obama as the arrogant Narcissist that he is, what better way to manipulate his Foreign policy than to stroke his overinflated EGO.... | |

That's not a surprise I guess. They do have so much in common. This is a funny quote, Obama has done nothing to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.........a few speeches bashing America, and talking about reducing Nuclear Weapons....seriously thats all it takes to Win a Nobel Prize? Its called pandering...what better way to manipulate Obama than to pander to his EGO..they want to insure that he continues on his path to our eventual third world status...Its crazy how Kool aid drinking Obama supporters think its ok to award a prestigious prize to someone who has yet to do anything. Its kind of like those trophies they give kids when they suck at team sports as a kid you know the ones they give just because they participated.... | |

The only reason the obamanation received this award, if it really is that anymore, is that the "judges" are as big of America haters as the obamanation. Does anyone really think this is an award for accomplishment?

In his 1895 will, Alfred Nobel stipulated that the peace prize should go "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations and the abolition or reduction of standing armies and the formation and spreading of peace congresses." Mr. Nobel is probably crying big ol' tears right now at how his legacy has been besmirched.
For all you admirers of the obamanation, lets talk again in 5, 10 years after you explain it to your children why they don't have decent jobs and adequate medical care is a thing of the past.

No Obama's nobel is proof that if you run around putting down the very country that raised you to it's most prestigious position, they will give you one. It is the only thing the guy has done. I heard a report on the new that mentioned something about his contributions to green technology--2 questions--what does environment have to do with peace and what exactly HAS he done in this arena except propose things?
Gone are the days of isolationism--everything we do impacts someone else, and the global impact the United States has is profound.
Probably not for too much longer. I hear 3rd world countries don't have much impact.

This administration hasn't made a right move yet. In fact, dems in congress are in such desperate straights over the economy they're even considering adopting a republican propasal to extend loss carryovers from two to five years hoping it will stem unemployment. They are also considering extending some of the evil Bush tax cuts for businesses in addition to the carryover proposal. They aren't calling it a second stimulus because that would imply the first failed (which it has) and secondly they'd have to admit the tax cutting should have been done in the first bill.
Problem is once again just like the first stimulus and any/all health care proposal they don't have any plan to pay for it. That's where you guys will come in . You didn't realize you were rich. Feels good huh? | |

We are still in two wars..the obama has not reduced or abolished our standing armies. He has in FACT increased our presence and is planning on doing it again in Afghan..
The Nobel committee has done nothing more than kick Bush in the leg. I can understand the world view of Bush, but to give the obama a Nobel peace prize for doing nothing but giving lip service has tarnish the award. They think giving him the prize will force him into action? Hell...he has already sunk our kids into a debt they will never pay..
What happened today is a shame. Maybe it will spur him into action ...maybe he will get a reduction in Nukes...maybe he will do this...or maybe he will do that...BUT HE HAS DONE NOTHING YET! | |

THIS one should show you just how pathetic it is that we are in agreement. I have no problem kicking Bush in the leg. I loved Chavez saying the sulfer on the platform was gone. But Nobel and the family believed strongly in Peace, and Science as a way to that end. I want to see that prize even more then the others mean something. Tell me practically what he himself has done? Compromised on every meaningful subject to the point of making them useless? Is that the measure of peace? Ghandi wouldn't think so... MLK wouldn't think so. Show me something people. | |

Nobel prizes aren't lifetime achievement awards. They're intended to promote effective change in their respective areas. Nowadays when Obama is besieged by domestic problems, it's easy to forget that he did keep his promise and order the closure of Guantanamo Bay and the wind-down of the Iraq war (and more generally start undoing all Bush's damage). As you say, he hasn't succeeded at any of this, but that's sort of the point ... they gave him the award to strengthen his position and make it easier to carry on, not simply as a decoration.
It's not the first time they've given the award out on that basis. Mikhail Gorbachev's award had a definite strategic odour to it. Much as I think the Dalai Lama is a nice guy, he hasn't actually managed to achieve much peace anywhere so his 1989 award was very clearly strategic.
Obama is also not (by far) the most controversial winner. I think Yasser Arafat is likely to hold that place for decades to come.
If the Nobel Prize does nothing other than to shake up Americans and make them realize that their perceptions of international politics are bizarrely skewed and out-of-touch, that might make this worthwhile all by itself. | |

Is sending more kids to die in Afghanistan peace? Is leaving our troops in Iraq peace?
Is dividing this nation even more than Bush did...peace? Is talking to the Russians about nukes but having nothing to show for it peace?
