Happy in your skin?
Posted: 10/9/2009 8:28:27 AM
Now personly I am happy with myself in fact I quite like me.
Ok I am 50, overweight, short, wear glasses AND I am single!
But I am a nice person, very loving, kind cuddley and damn sexy to boot! and so modest too.
It has been suggested that if I changed one of those mentioned above (guess which) I would easily attract a mate. However I dont want to change I like me how I am.
Do you think its necessary to conform to the norm of being attractive ?
And are you all happy in your skins or would you change yourselves atall??
I dont mean the odd pound or two but to change your very being.

What is the norm of being attractive when people have such wide and varied personal tastes to begin with?.

There are physical things that sure I would change, but in the long run would making these changes make me any more attractive to the opposite sex? maybe maybe not, maybe just learning to accept what you have will bring confidence which in itself is a useful tool in attracting people.

There was a programme on not so long ago about servicemens battle to adapt to the loss of their limbs,it made very humbling and grounding viewing.

I'm happy with me on the whole, although I would like to lose weight for my daughter's wedding next year.......it would be so nice to be able to buy something easily off the peg from all the lovely designer shops we have in town...and also for health reasons. But there is absolutely no way I would ever try to change just to "catch" a man.

I wouldn't change anything non-trivial about myself to conform to anyone else's standards. Besides anything else, knowing my luck, I'd meet someone the very next day that hated what I'd just changed.

I am happy, but I still think there is room for improvement, as there likely is in most people, and if you can do it, then why not.

I used to go to the gym 5 times a week, had 8% body fat and was a was a stone (of muscle) heavier than I am now. I started the final year of my degree and was really busy so ended up letting it slide, so even though I am still in moderately good shape I would like to be how I was before... That is why now I have the time I have joined the gym again and I am putting in a hell of a lot of effort to get where I want to be. It will be hard work but I know will feel much better for it and also be healthier for it.

I think if most people were honest they don't make improvements, losing weight for instance, because they just can't be bothered to make the effort. There is nothing wrong with that if it's what they want, but when people say, "I am happy being overweight, I don't need to change for anyone" what they really mean is, "I can't be bothered to do the work necessary to lose weight". I reckon if someone offered to wave a magic wand and instantly get them 1/2/3 stone lighter they would let them do it!

I am not being critical because the reason I stopped was that I was busy working and studying and after that I couldn't be bothered. I was honest about it though!

I have lost over 17 stones in weight. I have no saggy skin as i did this over 5 years. When i feel i need it i shall have botox - the works! I do not see why people are so down on plastic surgery. Scaredy cats.

I don't care if I have a disability, walk with a limp or am an ugly fecker.

Things could be worse.

Nothing there that the GYM, EYE SURGERY, and HEELS can't fix Hunibelle if you were so inclined

But if you are ' truely' happy ( ie not in denial) then keep on truckin honey .

If I was in the same boat and I was as happy as you I'd want to live as long as possible to enjoy that happiness. So as being overweight cuts life expectancy, I'd definitely change that one.

Oh and to answer the original question yes im happy with myself and in fact very proud of me too!

I am usually happy, but could always use a bit more happiness.

I feel I would be happier in the skin of a rhinoceros,
-much better for suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune etc.
also insults would just ricochet off skin that thick,
I could walk straight through hawthorn bushes,
(as long as I closed my eyes, obviously)
And I could strike matches on my face.

the only down-side would be people trying to chop lumps out of my horn,
for aphrodisiac purposes.

But no-one would mess with you....
well-'ard

I am like marmite, you will love me or hate me. This is your choice. I don't need your validation as I am purrfectly comfortable in my own skin as no-one else's will fit me lol.

Taken from my own profile ................ so I guess it answers the OP

I am a stubborn, crabby, cantankerous b!atch at times ................... but I can live with that, I rock

not in the slightest, but as there is nothing I can do about it I just get on with loathing myself to the point of damaging my health deliberatly

I wouldn't change my very being. I know deep down in there I'm really actually OK thanks ... I'm always open to personal evolution and development, but that's not changing who I am, that's making the most of who I already am. Likewise with my body, I exercise to make the most of the body I've been given, not to turn it into something that isn't me.

OP if you're happy with you then that's great and you be who and how you want to be.

I'm happier with myself than I was when I was in better shape and in my prime and didn't have much respect for myself or my body.....there's always room for improvement, but that's my perfectionist streak which is low key these days.

And are you all happy in your skins or would you change yourselves at all??

Too happy it would seem, to change myself in any way would require effort, and as yet I have not met anyone worth that effort ..
