I find it almost annoying that almost every guy who is on the bigger side (def has some extra lbs) says that they have an average body type. Look, I'm 4'11 and 115lbs....not skinny, not fat which I consider myself average. Are people just in denial or whats the deal? If you have a few extra lbs, you might as well be upfront about it. For one, we can tell in most pics anyways and for two, if you really want to meet someone.....well DUH! Sorry this kinda frustrates me!! | |

Average = General public's "average" weight.
Thin = Thin
Athletic = Totally Ripped to someone with a bit of weight who is very active.
A Few... = A Few extra...

Just post some descent pic's that show your figure and let them speak for themselves and to hell with some stupid one-word definition of the awesome totality that is your physical being - hell it's not rocket science.

And even for regular people, 'average' really is 20 to 40 lbs over what might be considered optimal. Few of us can hide behind the frig any more. Or can we? | |

My take on what people put down based on experience on here -
Thin = Thin or European average, average and short(usually women)
Athletic = Thin, muscular, average and active, average and hoping no one will call them on it
Average = Thin but don't like to say so, average, 10-20 pounds overweight or obese but think someone will love you for your personality if you can just get that first date
A few Extra Pounds = 10-20 pounds overweight or obese
Big and Tall/BBW = Obese 30+ pounds overweight | |

I'd have to say that 4'11" at 115 is average. My girl in university was 4'11 and 98 lbs, she wasn't underweight. Small, though -- and she didn't like it that we all shaved our legs. | |

My experiences have been different:
thin -- these "calls" have been pretty honest
"athletic" -- ranging from truly reflective of seeing muscle underneath the skin to "well at least I don't have any fat rolls on my body."
"average" -- this has been all over the place from, "I don't have any fat rolls" to "well, geez, most folks in the U.S. are OBESE, so take that to the bank -- that's AVERAGE around here, bud"
BBW-- yeah, obese
It's the middle range that has me most confused. I describe myself as "average;" however, by the standards set on POF, maybe I should move to "athletic." -- 5'11 1/2", 182 lbs.. I choose not to do so because I'm not hitting the gym hard enough. | |

Ah, OK, the only problem with that is that, if you envision "average" as being someone who is not, let's say, more than 15 pounds overweight, but that person assumes that 80 pounds overweight is "average," somebody's going to have a BIG surprise waiting for them at the first meeting. (Get that? BIG surprise?) Especially when all that the profile provides is a "face only" picture.

IMO, average means not skinny but not heavy either. However, as others have stated on pof, these days, most Americans are overweight... So what once was "overweight"

I consider myself 'a few extra lbs', though some would consider me 'average', and others 'obese'.

Probably a combination of denial, and thinking men won't find them on searches if they're filtering on "body type" field. I skip over women who blatantly lie about their weight. If they're lieing about something that easy to spot - what else are they being dishonest about? | |
