Do you answer them? It's 2am, you're awake and the phone lights up with the guy/ girl you've been casually dating/ flirting with/ been caught checking outs name on.

Personally, I (more often than not) do because I find them hilarious but some of my friends say it makes you seem too "availible" if you take that call. Now granted it's 2am so if they woke me I'd be less than impressed but when I'm awake anyway I'm a no harm no foul kinda gal. Do you guys answer?

It's 2 am ... when the Bullet hits the Bone - Golden Earring

Only you know who this person is who's calling, what your relationship is with them, what they're like when it's not 2 am, so I personally cannot advise you other than might say if you answer the phone cheerfully at 2 am you're going to get a lot of future calls at 2 am and pretty soon you won't cheerfully answer those.

if i had a way to know that someone was going to make a drunk call to me in advance, i'd have the popcorn ready, already comfy in my chair, and ready for comedy show to start....

Ha ha endless fun! ALWAYS ANSWER!
I cannot tell you how many guys have called me, drunk, to say what they couldn't or wouldn't say sober. Usually I Love You. It's so sweet. NOT!

There must be something in the air because I had THREE exes contact me recently and tell me how much they "used to love me". One wasn't even drunk, though. These guys couldn't say it when we were dating, but wait months or years afterward to finally admit what I was trying to get them to say at the time?! OY!!!

Oh, and I've done it, too, but it's not usually to say I love you lol

You have to get a "2 a.m.-it-MUST-be-foul-if-not-rude" attitude

a non-emergency call at that time (and if you are ONLY casually dating, they would NOT call you for an emergency) is just plain DISrespectful

I would NEVER call anyone at that hour.. unless previously arranged TO call them.

Stop being the curious cat. THAT cat got killed.

make note of the number and person who DOES call you at that hour and take them OFF YOUR LIST of potential mates. They are demonstrating a DISregard for you and IF you allow it, you will get a LIFETIME of DISREGARD.

We teach people how to treat us.. from day ONE.

Dont be a twit.. Twit's get what they deserve.

Oh.. you are living in the age of caller ID.. on your cell, on your home phone.. Use it

Perhaps it's better than getting a drunken reach around at 2am!! Naw don't answer it!!! Then, just for kicks...... do push-ups till you're out of breath and then call 'em right back..... and right before they have a chance to say "hello" let them hear you breathing real heavy ....while you say " whew baby.....you were good!!!!" ( to your "imaginary" sex partner!) See if that cures the problem.....

Sure. I'm usually up all night. How long I stay on the phone depends on why exactly they called and if I find it entertaining.

However, call me at a "decent" time, like anywhere from 9am - 3pm and I'm either not going to answer or the person calling is going to wish I didn't. Talk about disrespect! ;) They should know I'm sleeping.

I personally don't see any problem with answering if I'm already awake, I know I ave been guilty of calling around that time before and have always been thankful when the recipient answered.

PLus, usually the conversations are fun and usually allow for laughter days after

That 1kindaman dude is just soooooooooo miserable.

It's usually me that's doin the ringing, I like to find out what load of crap I managed to come out with when they tell me the next day.

And if you do get called at that time, take it as a compliment, means they are thinking about you.

I am always available to someone I consider a friend.

I answer because they might need help....
and if they don't need help.......I could always use a good giggle......even at 2 am!

It can be amusing and hopefully harmless.....I did it once to a guy when I was on vacation..we were kinda casually dating....have NO clue what I said and he wouldnt tell me but we did stay friends afterwards so it couldn't have been too bad.

Drunk dialing is cheaper than some comedy clubs!! :)

Fascinating that a very "common" commenter and a "Ponce" could only be critical of a valid answer to the OP's question.

Question WAS..

Does it make the OP seem "too available" and the answer is YES. If someone she MIGHT be interested in shows such a total DISrespect for her when drunk, out on the town WITHOUT HER to think it is OK to casually call her, then they are being disrespectful and she should take that into account before continuing to date them.

Her answering them, and continuing to date them sends a message that ANYTHING goes and she shouldnt expect to be treated with respect.

Her next post will be in about a year and will be something like:

This guy I've been seeing for about a year often goes out drinking till all hours of the night with other women and his buddies.. Is there a chance for us?

Killing the messenger doesnt change the truth.

That seemed to be the point of her question that I addressed.

Right on, MsMicki.

I always answer in the middle of the night because my mom is 90 and it might be an emergency. I had a drunk-dial once at 3 AM - the number came up "restricted" and I didn't know if it was the place where she lives, a hospital, or what (plus I was half-asleep). It turned out to be a guy in NY state with whom I'd previously corresponded. We were supposed to meet about three weeks before when he was in PA on a business trip, but he was a no-show, and I was tired of his ongoing BS so I blocked his IMs and emails on another site. I answered the first call and when I realized that it wasn't about my mom, I said sorry, I couldn't talk due to the late hour and that I had to go back to bed. Ten minutes later he called again and I let it go to voicemail...and then a third call...I shut off the ringer before the fourth call. The voicemails were hysterical to listen to the next day as he got more and more plastered and by the last message, he could barely speak .

any contact that is either too late at night or too early in the morning is a deal breaker for me.

I used to..now I don't get out of bed for anybody. ;^)

IF it's an emergency, I know my phone will ring repeatedly, and only then will I will walk ALL the way upstairs to see who it is..I have an ex that drunk dials me on occasion, and I hate missing his calls, because he's a blast to talk to when he's drunk!! But, alas, I always seem to miss them. :(

Talking about disrespect, I have a story. The last guy I dated (8 months), I called him at 3 a.m. one night, and it WAS an emergency. He told me to call someone else, no way he was coming over and risking not making work in the morning. And yes, I had to go to the hospital. The next morning, he plastered a bunch of shit all over facebook about how "he didn't sign up for this" and other crap.

Now that, in my opinion, is disrespectful. And also another reason why he is now an ex.

yeah so, don't drunk dial a couple that asks you to have group sex with them, and the guy owns a wire company and you have your boyfriend of the time say that he will re-wire the "lady's" wires...

$1,000.00 fine for "misuse" of a telephone.

All I can say is they better have a good reason for waking me up at 2a.m. besides being drunk, when a cab could of done it. And if its stupid stuff regarding a women, when a call during normal hours could of worked that would irritate me even more. Dont get me wrong I am a good friend but everyone has to take responsibility for them selves when they decide to go out and tie a few ones on.

How about the "drunken e-mail"?

I've been contacted several times by women that have just gotten home from the bars.
Leaves me to wonder if they needed the liquid courage or if they were wearing their beer goggles!

It depends on who it is. If I look, and it's anyone in my family - I pick up in a heartbeat!!! If it's someone waking me up for a booty call - Voice mail!
