| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/17/2009 11:22:32 PM | | I asked for a profile review and got the feedback that my Halloween picture from two years ago (less than, but I am being defensive) is misleading. I have posted other, more recent pictures, but think that pictures from two years ago are acceptable, given that I have not gained weight, etc. What do you think? What is the outskirts of all right? | |

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/17/2009 11:33:39 PM | I guess it really depends...I know that's a lame answer, but it so much depends on the individual.
Having said that, I'd say two years is ok.

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 12:13:12 AM | | I have a mix of older and recent pic's. I haven't changed much in the time frame of the pic's I have, plus I state in the captions when they were taken. I don't take many pic's of myself these days simply because I just never get around to it. I haven't had anyone say anything negative about it to me so far. | |

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 7:18:59 AM | | A picture is too old if when you show up in person you don't look like the picture. It's not about numbers it's about accuracy. The image on the page is supposed to look just like you do now. If in doubt, take a recent picture, compare the two. If the older one looks better, use the newer one. | |

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 1:33:29 PM | I think it depends on how much the person has changed. If you're using pics from 2 years ago before putting on or losing weight weight/hair turning gray/horrible disfiguring accident and are trying to "hide that so they take the chance to get to know you" then that would be wrong. If you're the type that hasn't really changed in that time then it's not a big deal.
I looked at yours, and thought "what's the big deal, she's in her late 20's to mid 30's. Then I saw your age. I think you're using pics of yourself from when you were much younger
|
| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 2:14:23 PM | It's not the age of the pics, it's the difference in you. Heck, 3 months can be "too old" packed on 15 pounds in the worst way... or lost 15 pounds since then and look better!
With that, I'll say that a lot of people don't think they've changed much when they have. I mean, if you have recent photos blended in with older photos, but you look like the exact same person in all of them, then no, it doesn't matter at all. But sometimes the person will THINK they look the same, when they don't, so you are a biased onlooker to yourself... which is why people say "put up new pictures to avoid any risk of you looking any different; can't trust YOUR assessment".
All in all -- if two photos have the same person of the same age, with the same body, but both are many months or even a couple years apart, who cares? People get upset that folks put up "older" pictures AFTER they find out they don't look like them -- not when they do!

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 3:45:19 PM | | I personally keep it 3 months or less..and I wish people would just be honest with recent pictures. A lot can change in a year or two, believe me. I have had a few men say "oh, I have not changed a bit" from the neck up maybe not, but the last one I met forgot about 50 pounds or so. I just find recent is fair; the pics that are one, two, three years old is just not right. Especially with technology. I mean really, how difficult is it? I even take my own photos. Keep them recent then it is not misleading. But people still lie. And it is obvious when you meet people. I send people pics before meeting them as well that are ALL recent and I am beyond upfront about things. This is why I am done with on line dating. | |

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 4:21:16 PM | I know someone who is on POF, her pictures are a few years old... she says so what, that she hasn't changed... Well, not really if you don't count the extra 20lbs, the few more wrinkles around the eyes, and the grey hair in a different shorter style...
You see, people are often not aware of how much they change... they see themselves day to day, so they don't notice the slow prograssion of time age and changes.

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 4:39:21 PM | No big deal, date the photos as some have said. It peeves me to see a profile where there are three different hairstyles and some obvious fluctuation in weight. If you are worried about rejection on meeting (other than normal first date jitters), then you know deep down that you're fudging the numbers. There's a gulf of difference between putting your best foot forward and intentionally creating a false impression....
If your photos show a 40 pound swing, I'm automatically figuring that the less attractive photos are the current ones. I have a few buddies on this site who have made the same observations and handle things similarly.
Also, please knock off the "prefer not to say" thing on body type. That means one of three things: attractive but has body issues, heavier than she feels comfortable saying, or a closet swimsuit model who wants to be judged for her mind.
Funny, it's never the swimsuit model thing....
Listen ladies, if you want a man, at least approach this with integrity. If you're unhappy with your appearance and your prospects, then channel that into action, not deception.

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 4:47:58 PM | | I keep it around 2 years myself. I have one on there from 2006 though but they're all dated. Sometimes, I'll put a high school pic or something in there as a joke but I will clearly date it 1985 or whatever. | |

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 4:54:32 PM | | In this day and age with digital cameras and cell phones there is no reason to have old pics on your profile.......2 years is to Old..... | |
|
| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 8:40:08 PM | | I think it depends on the individual in the pictures. I have a range of 5 yrs old to 1 month old on my profile. No one seems to notice and you will recognize me in person. You pics are fine OP. It shows a different side of you and you don't look to have changed in any major way since it was taken. I say make your prfile to make you happy, others will like it or hate it no matter what. | |

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 9:30:46 PM | Actually, I'll add something here...
It's not the age of the photos that's the main problem on personal ad sites -- it's deceptiveness OF the photo that is the main problem. A pic could be years old and be MUCH MORE ACCURATE than a picture taken on an angle looking directly downwards making one look like they're 30 pounds lighter than they really are, taken Yesterday.
All in all, don't put up pictures that make you look better than what you look in person, regardless of it's age. Don't put up pictures that make you look worse (unless you want to purposely give someone a pleasant surprise).
The age of the photo isn't what people will complain about, so don't focus on that.... otherwise the average Joe will think it's just fine to pick out photos that were taken in the right light, angle, and expression that makes him look way better, and think it's okay because it was taken 2 weeks ago and not 2 years ago.
It's about the photo not 100% honestly representing what you look like that people will complain about. That should be the focus, for whatever the reason may be.

I couldn't agree more, I see many on here that use glamor shots. That can be very deceptive. Some will have shots taken above the shoulders to hide weight issues and so forth.
I used to work in Broadcasting and I can tell you first hand that I have seen what a bit of make-up and lighting can do. Trust me, People on tv or in Hollywood aren't as attractive as you might think.
My photos are all very recent and taken with average digital cameras. What you see is what you get.

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/18/2009 11:06:30 PM | "I have seen what a bit of make-up and lighting can do." Would that work for say 43-ish men? | |

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/19/2009 6:59:39 AM | LOL, so we aren't to use make up, good cameras, great lighting or other ways to present ourselves at our most flattering? If we have two pictures from the last two years, choose the worst one? Perhaps we should only be allowed to post passport photos.
Personally, with the quality of pictures out there, I would be far more inclined to complain about the dimly lit basement webcam look, or the blurry shots, and those taken so far away all you can see is that there is ocean behind.
Yes, photos should look like you, but I have to say, I think some of you guys are going way overboard. My most common first statement I hear when I meet someone from POF is, "I'd recognize that smile anywhere". despite makeup, lighting or the fact that one picture is nearly two years old.

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/19/2009 8:13:30 AM | | Depends on your age. You age quicker at a young age. A photo of you at age 12 will be out of date quickly if you are 16, but not one at age 24 if you are 28. | |
|
| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/19/2009 10:36:01 PM | | I say its too old if you've changed visually in any noticeable way since the pic. This goes for guys as well as gals. Like if you've cut or grown your hair (or changed its color), or (for the guys) go shaven now instead of the old goatee you used to have, etc. Like I got braces since some of my photos were taken, but you really can't tell from the photos anyway. Generally, inside a year is a good guideline. | |

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/19/2009 10:54:04 PM | I'd have to agree with most it seems here. It depends on the person/pictures. Mine from more than ten years ago do look noticeably younger so I try not to use them. That said I don't look drastically different. Someone would still recognize me, I still wear the same pant size, etc. I try to keep mine fairly recent but I'm also not one who has someone following me around taking new pictures every week (or even month). I think the oldest one on my profile right now is 3-4 years old but still pretty much the same. I still have the same favorite hat, same preferred sunglasses, same general type of haircut (and amount of hair), same weight/build range, etc. If something noticeably changed I'd make it a point to update the pictures, or at least mention the difference in the caption.
It's the ones who post misleading pics and/or don't clarify in the captions that deserve those sort of comments. Other than that, fuhget about it. ;)

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/19/2009 11:26:33 PM | I think that as many others said, It depends on the person. If you havent gained or lost any weight, and dont look substanially different IE shorter hair, tattoos, etc, then It really doesnt matter much.
I will admit that it is always nice to see a picture taken in the last year.
That having been said, I dont think pictures are a good representation of what someone really looks like. They are a very basic representation at best. Some people just arent that photogenic, and visa-versa. I always try to take pictures with a grain of salt so to speak for the most part.
You are attractive and your pictures seem to show that you havent physically changed that much. I say keep the Halloween pic, it is sexy.

| How old is too old? (pictures) Posted: 10/19/2009 11:44:40 PM | OP one of the problems is the picture in question is the only one you have dated in a complete body shot. In this situation I would have to agree it is too old. Sorry body's can change a whole lot in 2 years.
I personally put up a new one about every 6 months. I also am a firm advocater of a Webcam...
If this was me I would post a new FULL BODY SHOT. then it would be fine. Sorry if people seem a bit skeptical there is a lot of people out here that don't look like their pictures. If you dont' have any put in your profile a blurb that you are willing to do a webcam session.
I did look at your profile pictures very carefully and can see some changes.
Bottom line do what you feel the most comfortable doing. Pictures are a really touchy subject out here.
Good luck | |
