Who stole the melons from my backyard?

When I ate some melons, I would throw the seeds in my backyard fensed by bricks. Later, I have had my own melons that have always been shared with my neighbors. Interesting things happened for a few times. Some melon vines were suddenly cut or disappeared. Some melons were eaten by birds, but some melons that were bigger than eggs were just disappeared. I never see a little big animals in my backyard except some small ones. Does everyone have the experience and know what kind of animale can eat the vines and melons?

It could be a secret admirer who likes the way your mellons grow. Or maybe your neighbors just think they can help themselves.

My neighbors always share my melons. They with their kids come to pick any nice melons they want. I still have some melons that are growing. This morning, I found that a melon was cut from the vine with fresh pedicel mark. I believed that some animal tried to pick the melon, but it might be too big for the animal.

might help if we knew where you lived (general area) if there are goats, deer, javalina or something loose or wild nearby (they'll eat anything) or anyone that won't try to eat them first)

once i traced a bad smell in the house to a sack of potatoes i forgot about in the cupboard, threw it out in the back yard (forgot about it) until i found pretty green plants growing several months later -lots of little baby potatoes under the ground below it -they were delicious!

How big is AZ? I am over 100 miles away from Phx.
This morning, some pepper pedicels were cut again. I talked to some my neighbors. They were surprised....It might be the fish

Those small animals stole the melons and bit the pedicels and melon vines. We don't have much rain. It's too dry for any kind of wide plants to be alive. Those small animals have to get water from these fresh plants. The pedicels and melon vines are also good to feed these animals...

Could be neighbor kids pulling them out. When I was a kid I did some stupid things like that without thinking about what I was doing.

Then you use your brain as well as your hands...
The perfect explanation is the following:

Those small animals stole the melons and bit the pedicels and melon vines. Those small animals have to get water from these fresh plants. The pedicels and melon vines are also good to feed these animals...
