| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 2:11:17 PM | Ladies, What do you think about men who dye their hair?
I am talking here about a natural colour done professionally at a hair salon. Most women dye their hair, but some women and and a lot of men have a hard time accepting a man who dyes his hair to look a little younger. | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 2:17:44 PM | I'm older than dirt ...... someone needs to tell my hair. It just refuses to turn gray/white.
My facial hair is white - my chest hair is white ......... my head hair - did not get the memo lol.
----------
You did not ask this OP but ..... I would never dye my hair. Why in the world would a man dye his hair? | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 2:25:09 PM | I'll be happy if all of my hair turns gray,,, Gray hairs are feisty little **stards that tend to stay fastened,,, Viva la gray!

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 2:28:57 PM | | My fiance is 38 and has more gray than I do...ok, I have white hairs not gray ones, but point is he looks great. If a man has hair over 45, I say let it be natural, but if they feel better about themselves coloring it, they should do it. I don't care for the black. I went out with a guy I was waiting for it to drip oil, it was so black. He has it natural (gray) now and it looks great on him. | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 2:31:31 PM | | Guys, don't dye your hair! It looks awful. I know you all think grey hair makes you look older, but it actually makes you look NORMAL.lol.. | |

If the guy wants to dye his hair, go for it.
Whatever makes HIM happy! It's not about me! | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 2:40:41 PM | | I honestly don't think you need to worry too much. Most of us are just too damned lazy to bother. I can barely work up the initiative to get my hair cut once a month. If I had to get roots done too, I'm not sure how often I'd get in. | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 2:43:29 PM | So what's next? Men going to get artificial nails, penile implants and boob jobs? Yikes - I sure am glad I'm not looking for a man, especially one who is into putting on a false front. I am an au naturel type of person.
What else can I say ... message too short. | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 2:49:08 PM | I prefer my own full head of grey hair.
I see men with some pretty unnatural looking Ronald Reagan type dyed hair and I wonder what's wrong with them, do they really think they look natural | |

FFS, When I was still in my 20's , I started getting gray at the temples. I was still single and I wasn't ready for that, so I would color just the gray .What a PITA! So ,after I met my 1st wife, she was saying she liked salt and pepper hair on a guy...thought it was sexy. Guess what? Within about three months I had salt and pepper hair | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 2:55:16 PM | Dyed hair on men looks rather cheesy and un-natural... Men with gray hair/ salt & pepper are distinguished, handsome, and in some cases very sexy. JMO! | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 2:55:43 PM | Isn't it amusing that we can go from blonde to brunette, or brunette to blonde or both if we choose and that's accepted.
But, personally? If a guy died his hair for some reason it looks "false" and wrong, perhaps it's because we are used to men aging gracefully, salt and pepper hair, maturity, it seems sexy to me..
I think we do it as a beauty thing.
Men do it as vanity.
Hahaha, same thing.
Na leave it. | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 3:22:03 PM | even if it's done "professionally," wouldn't you always wonder if people could tell and if they thot you were vain ... and if and if ...
I've colored my hair to a redder tone a couple of times and have had blonde highlights put in a few times ... and, while I LIKE the blonde highlights, I gotta tell you, it just makes me nervous, wondering if everyone is whispering about what a BAD hair dye job I've had ...
I've decided to leave it natural ... for now!
a friend recently had his hair professionally dyed from mostly black with greying at the temples (which made him look distinguished, trustworthy and intellectual) ... to just plain black ... (more like the proverbial salesman) ... everyone here agreed they liked the natural look better ...
but ... you know ... if YOU LIKE it BETTER, tho ... DYE IT! it's YOUR HAIR! | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 3:31:16 PM | Chandlers Wish,
Thanks for your comments.
I did try dying my hair about 6 months ago and they did it realy dark, while I always had light brown hair until it turned grey.
The funny thing was that the majority of people pretended that nothing had changed although I could see a look of surprise and sometimes disapproval in their eyes, so I would ask them what they thought to break the ice.
Most people, men and women told me that they preferred it natural. I hated it and could not wait for it to grow out. I kind of felt like an imposter. The dark hair with my light eyebrows and Irish complexion just did not look right.

Dyed hair on men looks rather cheesy and un-natural... My cousin who is 70 tells me his dye job looks good and I said to him ..."it looks like Sh*t.."

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 3:51:17 PM | | Doesn't phase me a bit. Well, if he dyes it purple, green or any other "rock & roll" color, I'm probably gonna think Halloween is a bit premature. | |

| Men over 45 who dye their hair Posted: 10/21/2009 3:59:54 PM | If you want to dye your hair, you should. However, you should be fully informed. First, a professional job is expensive and has to be maintained once you start. If you are brave enough to do it yourself, and can do a good job, you'll be very lucky. Second, you may have hard-to-dye gray which means that the color doesn't absorb well and you won't be looking good for long after spending lots of money and time. I actually stopped dyeing my hair this summer just to give it a rest and figure out how much was really there. All my friends told me that they liked it, BUT it aged me. I hit the bottle the next day--the hair color bottle, that is! If I were a man, I would celebrate the fact that society accepts your aging so much better than a woman's and spend my money instead on some great shoes. | |
