| what to do after a c-section anyone wants to help Posted: 10/22/2009 8:56:27 AM | I do yoga. Yoga has slow movements, stretches, etc. that won't irritate existing conditions. As you are focusing on your breathing, it helps you to destress and relax. The pain is always is worse when you are tense/stressed.
Long hot showers, just stand there with the hot water on your back.
If you aren't breast feeding, a doctor can prescribe pain medication for you. I do Wygesic. It is pretty low on the pain med scale, but is better than tylenol for helping.
Your back is compensating for your stomach muscles. When you are healed, you can start to work on crunches to build them back up. Just realize your body has taken quite a bit of abuse and it takes time for it to return to "normal" ok, closer to it than it is now. I have a hernia from my last c section. I don't want any more operations, so I can't say it my body can be back to the way it was, but I do my best.

you do need to keep moving, do not want to get a blood clot which has happened to women after giving birth.

| what to do after a c-section anyone wants to help Posted: 10/22/2009 4:19:46 PM | Honey, having gone through this myself. I can assure you that 4 days after a C section is not the time to start doing anything strenuous. Your muscles and tissue have been sliced through and need time to heal.
Try placing a rolled towel firmly against your abdomen when you move to stabilize the area. Walking is all you should be doing at this time to help your circulation and blood flow.
Call your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.
Take care. | |

| what to do after a c-section anyone wants to help Posted: 10/23/2009 10:21:19 AM | I liked using a throw pillow, softer and more hugable to cough. It is good to cough. If you don't it is too easy to get pneumonia. Of course walking makes you breath harder, so you probably will cough more, don't forget to walk with the pillow. Your hot showers are great because the steam should help.
I didn't have stitches, I got lovely staples both times...yuck!

| what to do after a c-section anyone wants to help Posted: 10/23/2009 1:37:26 PM | | thank u, i got the staples to and had them removed before i left the hospital cause i got the disolveable stitches on the inside, i do use the towlles or a throw to help with the cough but it doesnt seem to help lolol but iam trying | |

| what to do after a c-section anyone wants to help Posted: 10/25/2009 9:54:31 PM | | I had a lot of complications after my first C-section, pneumonia being one of them. I think you should go back to the doctor pronto and get that cough looked after (and also the lingering pain from the failed epidural). | |

| what to do after a c-section anyone wants to help Posted: 10/27/2009 7:44:34 PM | | Keep moving, splint with a pillow as others have said, and contact your Dr. for pain medication so that you can keep moving, etc. If you have had a pain-pill/medication addiction in the past, let them know and consult with them on what will be best. | |

| what to do after a c-section anyone wants to help Posted: 10/27/2009 9:35:35 PM | | hi... I am so sorry to read all of that OP but I am glad to know it is getting much better... eat well, nurse your baby and no more meds for both you and baby... go to a DR that is more into natural things and I would not suggest anything other than walking for now and of course baby care will challenge you enough... blessings for healing and good information | |

| what to do after a c-section anyone wants to help Posted: 10/27/2009 10:52:19 PM | | Natural remedies are well and good, but she should check with the Dr. before taking any of them. Also, sometimes you just need something more powerful than herbs and whatnot. Sometimes a percocet is needed. Like it or not. I would rather my patients have medication and ambulate than abstain and get a DVT, throw a PE, and die. (Extreme scenario) | |

| what to do after a c-section anyone wants to help Posted: 11/8/2009 9:41:19 AM | I trained several women who had that surgery and not only could they not get rid of the lower ab fat (pouch), but they had no lower abdominal strength at all.
That "pouch" you speak of can be gotten rid of with the help of a truly knowledgeable, skilled personal trainer who has gotten their education from people that are tops in their field, not an online personal training course with a certificate that isn't worth more than the paper it is printed on.
The only way that pouch would be a problem is if the person leaves it that way for a long time or if she is not sticking to a healthy eating plan along with her workout routine, causing her to gain even more weight. Even if neglected, the person with the "pouch" can still get into shape if she makes the choice to stick with it. For some people who have natural childbirth, c-sections, or just overweight can have surgery to remove excess skin that is stretched out and no elastin in it.
Where there is a will, there is a way. Just depends on the woman and how badly she wants it. One thing to whine about losing weight and another thing to actually do something about it with the added advantage of a fantastic personal trainer that sees every person with the potential to succeed.

| what to do after a c-section anyone wants to help Posted: 11/8/2009 10:17:25 AM | I'm gonna whine because I don't want to get another operation. I have had enough in my life thank you.
As far as a personal trainer, it won't remove my hernia, I sure wish personal trainers were free. I will have to stick to my yoga. Haven't seen normal mommies with incredible abs, so I guess I will live with who I am. I wouldn't say I have a pouch either, just extra skin...yuck.

I agree. I've had two c's and have had no problem with losing weight or toning muscle.I've always been thin, so my problem is the skin that was stretched out over my belly that now has no baby to fill it out. Another thing I hate hearing is "my boobs sag because I breastfed." No they don't. I breastfed my second for 27 months. I went from A/B to D during pregnancy and now back to A/B. They sag because the skin gets stretched from changing sizes which happens during any pregnancy, not because of breastfeeding. And with toning, breasts can be brought back 'up'. It just takes work.
The OP is surely better by now, but for others who come across this in the future, you will have pain for a few weeks, the first week being pretty bad. Keep taking the pain meds and wean off of them as the pain is more bearable. And walk, but don't overdo it. You have had major surgery, so you need to take time to recover.
