They are only TV commercials.
So they tell everyone that they are a good company because we are willing to put normal looking people on our ads.
The fact that they go out of their way to point this is enough information to see it as nothing more than a marketing idea.
I am sticking with my Lush "Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub" Sea salt, lemon and mimosa refresh and invigorate
&
"Freeze" when you can find it. Peppermint and aloe vera cool

| What is real beauty to you? Posted: 10/23/2009 5:15:27 PM | These make me feel good and sad at the same time.
Sure... maybe it's just an ad. Maybe just something to get us to buy Dove. However... After being on the POF forums for several months, reading many personal opinions of their perceptions of beauty... I see Dove is right on the mark.

...And the ocean salt scrub is great on my skin...
I love that stuff now, but learned the hard way about stirring it well the 1st couple of times.
That salt is powerful.
At most I use it once a month.

| What is real beauty to you? Posted: 10/24/2009 12:17:14 AM | Lush is the most convoluted marketing ploy I have seen in a long time and if you girls want to settle on being normal suite yourself.
Work your hardest to stand above normal.

he called you a girl James.
i'm a sucker for scrubs and washes and lotions.
beauty to me is also having your own thing going on, an authenticity, and having a great time with it.

| What is real beauty to you? Posted: 10/24/2009 11:54:47 AM | It's a combination of physical allure, genuine spiritual warmth and humor. Dove's got the market cornered on moisturizing soap. I'll check that link and see if they have the real skinny.
OK, saw it. Amazing what they can do with hair and makeup, soft lighting and airbrushing! If that woman has a bod with nice curves, I'd do her even before they dolled her up, zits, freckles and all!

I have some of their moisturizers /hypocrite. I just don't think a product should define beauty, and their sales people are so brainwashed. It's frustrating.

That has to mess with your head after a while.
No product can define beauty.
Beauty can be defined mathematically as it is a combination of the Golden Ratio* and Symmetry.

| What is real beauty to you? Posted: 10/24/2009 5:50:27 PM | true, personally my favourite people are ones who have something different about their face or body type. Like overly large eyes or certain types of noses. I like plainer looking women who have a natural prettiness about them. The high cheek bone perfect curves sort of girl is great too mind you, just not my cup of tea.
I have a different opinion on how men should look too. I think guys should definitely strive to be as masculine as possible while maintaining a clean look. It's what I try to do anyways.
I might just over think it.

| What is real beauty to you? Posted: 10/25/2009 9:32:22 AM | External beauty = culturally defined, though certain characteristics are pretty much found across all cultures---symmetry and health. Some of my personal favorites: Gabrielle Anwar, Natassia Kinski, Liya Kebede, Emanuelle Beart, Famke Janssen, Salma Hayek, Monica Bellucci, Penelope Cruz.
Internal beauty = harder to quantify, but generally a sense of joy, openness, and effortless energy/vitality/strength. Emphasis on "effortless"---this is what separates a natural and graceful beauty from a poser or perfectionist's fake plastic beauty.
Personally, the external turns my head, but it's the internal that holds my interest.

Jay Cutler. Naked. Eating Rare Steak. In my bed.
Ooooo!!
I have to agree very much!!
Heh... I am friends with him on facebook. LOL!
I do have to say that I find most body builders, male and female, beautiful. On the other hand, I think Kate Winslet is beautiful. Period. Tim Gunn is statuesque. I have also always found something beautiful about the imperfect. Example... broken noses or Roman noses. Marlon Brando was handsome... then he broke his nose and was simply hot! Then we have James Dean. I have him all over my living room. Every time I look at the posters, I am stunned by his beauty. The woman who plays Joan on Made Men (Christina Hendricks) is stunning.

| What is real beauty to you? Posted: 10/28/2009 4:07:32 AM | I like dot's answers the best. It's taking care of what God gave you and living life and letting it show through your body, naturally.
One of the most beautiful woman I have ever seen was not Eva Longoria. She's a cookie cutter version of beauty. Like everyone else in media attention. beh.
This woman had on a bright red and white patterned cotton dress and beautiful aged olive skin, dark kindof frizzy curly hair (very black with yes...I'll say it gorgeous white peeking through) and an illuminated smile. She looked nothing like the "beautiful" people you see in magazines or what everyone with no mind aspires to be. But her radiance and the way she presented herself was absolutely inspiring for me.
Same with guys. Put a metrosexual CEO with 6 figures in front of me and watch how fast I'd maul him over running after a fireman with sweat and soot on his haggard face!
Everyone's beautiful. It's just up to us to take proper care of ourselves.

| What is real beauty to you? Posted: 10/28/2009 3:23:22 PM | Absolutely hypocritical of Dove. Ad 1- a woman is made-up and photoshopped. But Dove spends a lot of money to place ads in magazine where this practice is common. Ad 2- Onslaught? Dove's own "Go Fresh bodywash commercial" features an orgasmic girl playing in the shower, complete with suggestive dripping peaches. | |

| What is real beauty to you? Posted: 10/30/2009 6:21:17 AM | See, the thing is, I know plenty of women who look as good/better than that "finished product" in the film with just a few dabs of make-up in front of their bathroom mirror. No, I don't expect all people to be as attractive as they are, but still, trying to imply that these models only look like models because of hours of energy is demeaning of their hard work and good genetics. Give credit where it is do and stop whining. I don't go around accusing Gerard Butler of air-brushing his abs on and crap like that, but then again, maybe this comes from a well-balanced acceptance of who I am without having to drag others down?

YES! I do agree! Not every woman has perfect genetics, but that doesn't mean they can't keep themselves in shape and look great! You are right, I see so many women (and men) every day who look like crap, but I can see, beneath the rolls of fat, that they have great structure, and some of them have AWESOME genetics. They just refuse to maintain themselves for whatever reason. There is no excuse to contributing to America's largest, most expensive health-problem (obeisity). NONE.

If you're referring to how he looked in the movie "300" then no, his abs were not airbrushed---just computer enhanced. As were the physiques of just about every living creature in that movie.
Otherwise I agree with the rest of your post.

| What is real beauty to you? Posted: 10/30/2009 10:49:00 AM | | No edsta, I was referring to Law Abiding Citizen. I don't think any enhancement occured in that movie with reguards to his abs. | |
