| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 2:52:55 AM | Imagine we live in a time where you could design your perfect mate - from personal quirks (maybe she's got an adorable giggle or his eyes wrinkle when he smiles) to facial features, body type - everything down to the last detail. Of course, this also includes personality, sexuality, interests, hobbies - the perfect partner. Downside: he/she is a robot - an amazingly lifelike robot, but still at heart - well, she/he has no heart. You get my drift. A. Would you do it? Would you take a robot SO? B. If yes, what would he/she be like? | |

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 3:18:03 AM | Wow... this has me thinking of how people on this site will dismiss someone because of the slightest quirk. He's not funny enough, he's not mature enough, this one snorts when he laughs, that one does whatever...
It would really have you thinking that the answer would be to be able to build the perfect partner wouldn't it?
Personally, I would pass on this for a partner. I value the one thing that a perfect partner cannot give me... and that's learning of all the little quirks and idiosyncrasies of someone I'm infatuated with and having that infatuation grow to love.
I would however take one of these robots as a houseman... having it do the menial chores such as taking out the garbage, trimming the trees, mowing the lawn and so on would be a slice of heaven...
|
| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 3:23:43 AM | | It wouldn't be an SO, but a pretty good slave I'd program to be my maid and terminator chicky... MMMM... | |

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 3:36:35 AM | If it came down to robot lovers ... I would give it a wide berth, and JUST GIVE UP.
Then again, a B.O.B is no different, actually it is better, once it serves its' purpose you just pop it in the drawer and you don't have to deal with it - takes up less room too.
I like real men, he just has to be my 'man' - and to know that I would have to be able to look into his eyes which reflect 'momentary' glimpses of who he is, was and will be.
Robots fail in my book. NO WAY !!!

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 3:40:41 AM | I think it would be great in the beginning, but would become too predictable. I mean, what if he never argued or always argued in a convincing and sincere manner or never ever burped and got on really well with your family and friends. This would be fantastic for ..years, really..but it would get boring eventually, I would imagine. But you could always trade your robot SO for another one, I guess. It could work. Think about it... | |

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 3:47:26 AM | .. so - You're talking about a bob with arms, legs, lips and he Still won't argue with me? until I find me a real live human male to experiment on .. cough .. with, I'll take 1!
What would 'he' be like? He would LOVE doing housework!
Also, could you make mine temperature controlled? I don't need my man to overheat 'n blow a gasket every time I have a 'flash'! hehe ..
Oh .. and could his eyes light up when I walk in the room? Maybe a little smile too .. I'd like mine to be 'nature friendly' too, maybe he could come with a 'james bond' like assortment of tools to help collect those treasures on the shore (of course) ..
Looks? huh? what's that matter? .. ok ok .. blahblah .. so he should have looks that won't scare a child at 50 yards hair? yeah ok ..he can have hair ..maybe make it removable - you know ~ hair today, gone tomorrow .. that way I can 'play around' without feeling like I'm cheating .. I would like him to be taller than me .. and have broader shoulders than me and bigger feet too . . . oh .. and big hands .. yep .. I like big hands.
Since we're talking 'robots' .. I'd also like mine to have a camera installed, so I can just say "click" and he'll take a pic of that sunset or whatever ..
I'd also like to have the model that comes with his own car, one of those new electric / environmentally safe cars ..
And Santa Claus? Please send me one who has no current owner, no Recent ex-owner and NOT another one of those battery operated jobs!! (unless it's a good nicad battery of course)
I'll leave the milk 'n cookies in the usual place. (and yes .. yes I have been good this year, I've had No opportunities to be otherwise :( )

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 4:02:03 AM | ^^Baked.sushi, you got it, babe!! I want your man! But don't feel threatened, if it's a robot, I can just clone him! My perfect mate? Well...oh, this is soooo indulgent hehe - tall, a couple of years or so older, broad chest, nice butt, hair..ok, Richard Gere. And easy-going, great sense of humour, really generous in spirit but no fool, incredibly smart but isn't up himself about it, interesting career and totally into me. Oh yeah did I mention incredibly hot for moi. Please Santa....
Edit: and he must love cleaning toilets..(well not love in a fetishist way. I think the key here is to be very specific in your requirements.)

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 4:14:26 AM | Of course anyone would do a terminatrix like Summer Glau but... Site has a content warning, but main page is safely PG

They're not animate though, I imagine that would be like doing a dead thing which walks and talks, an undead thing, sort of like the way a vamp fetish is really necrophilia when you think about it, if you're really into that fantasy to its limit. Personally I just think they're too expensive. Okay and a little bit freaky but hey it's all legal. I like the way they're built up from a working skeletal structure to be as realistic as possible, a real dead body made of latex with optional human hair.

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 4:29:40 AM | I suspect it would be a disaster; consider the adage, be careful of what you wish for? I think we believe we know what we want and in many ways we do but the problem with the robot is that there would be no surprises, everything would be smooth sailing, there would be zero angst. There would also be zero, after a time, sparks, and sorry, unless I was totally clueless about the robotic nature of my own creation which would require some type of mind wiping and that is scary shit, I don't think I could fall for someone that wasn't an actual human being.
When I split with my ex somewhere in my head I believed that the opposite of the ex would be the man that was a hit on the compatibility chart. Discovered having found one of those, that the same issues in some instances existed but were manifested differently. Ergo what we think we want may not pave the way to happiness either.

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 4:36:04 AM | Nah, I don't think I'd like that. To be able to design a man yourself, even if he is a robot, that would make him perfect and perfect is boring. There's be no arguments, therefore no making up (and no make up sex). And it would get predictable. It's much more fun to love someone and realise that they do have those little imperfections, and love them for those little imperfections. | |
|
| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 4:41:21 AM | Only for a "fix" if he were like that Jude Law robot in A.I.
Hey, better than a hand held battery operated toy.
Not like those life like dolls sold for men..that is creepy. Can I get one to smell good to?
In reality no. Sometimes the thought does cross my mind..zombie sex slave. LMAO

Mopping floors and making coffee, O.K. I'm in..got a payment plan? Richard Gere..yup and more yup.

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 4:41:57 AM | After ample time on POF and IRL it's a no-brainer. I'll take the robot. It can cook and clean, right?
FriendlyFreeSpirit's post is revealing. After being allowed to model the PERFECT robot after her OWN specifications, she complains about him (it?) not arguing enough and considers a model change already. Now what more proof do you need that man CANNOT win?

Lighten up, it is a fun thread for a change from the normal whiny crap on here. Everyone has done every topic it seems to death..have some fun..come on, join in.
Just think about it. No judging here..what would YOUR robot do/be? Just keep the graphic details held back..for modesty sake.
We get that part. | |

Now what more proof do you need that man CANNOT win? See why robot lovers sound good? My robot lover will NEVER complain about my lack of logic...except in a friendly, loving, teasing, affectionate and adoring way... For those of you who think I"m talking about a doll - I'm talking really sophisticated robots, like the replicants in Blade Runner. Tempted or not?
|
| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 5:28:27 AM | The replicates in Blade Runner were much stronger than humans and had a bad homicidal glitch. Cherry 2000 would be more like it.
These sorts of robots may indeed be possible within the next 50- 100 years.

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 5:38:01 AM | He'd keep house like Martha Stewart He'd be an expert mechanic and handyman He'd look like Gerard Butler He'd dance like Fred Astair And his pickle would vibrate - several speeds The rest is negotiable | |

your perfect mate - from personal quirks (maybe she's got an adorable giggle or his eyes wrinkle when he smiles) to facial features, body type - everything down to the last detail. Of course, this also includes personality, sexuality, interests, hobbies - the perfect partner you just answered your own question ( second half of question A & B) that most would answer with the option of taking the robot: the "robot" would fill our needs to our particular bent...the perfect partner. heart or no, we'd still make them fit, wouldn't we? why would we choose less than what we might consider the perfect exterior and demeanor?
damn...it's mighty early.

| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 6:09:51 AM | I think I dated one once...
Oh.
You're not talking about mechanical, rote lovers, my bad.

He'd look like Gerard Butler This suddenly puts the whole thing into a different light...
I'm in... | |
|
| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 6:12:17 AM | | OP: Not as a lover, but maybe a maid. A robot w/o a heart/emotions would be fruitless for the type of relationship I'd want. | |
|
| |
| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 6:30:42 AM | | Much like the literary crutch of deus ex machina, this crutch for finding a lover couldn't help but fall short of the real thing. But that doesn't mean it wouldn't be an interesting experience on its own. Fantasy plays a large role in any relationship. The balance between realtiy and fantasy is just another important aspect that partners need to agree on. | |
|
| Robot lovers - yes or no? Posted: 10/27/2009 6:34:51 AM | Lars and the Real Girl was very endearing, but even he fought with "Bianca". Shows can't please anybody. LOL

Lucky for you, the Germans have come to the rescue since the "real doll" isn't animate enough for your umm tastes. And yes ladies, there's a boy doll for your pleasure too but "he" has a mullet and a small uncut, flaccid penis. I'm glad they thought this out...not!
http://jezebel.com/5359828/new-german-sex-dolls-go-scifi-scary
A German company called First Androids [NSFW] has created a sex doll that breathes and has a pulse. It's just like a real woman, only with no brain or corresponding ability to reject douchebags.
In the fall issue of futurist magazine H+, Kristi Scott tells us (on page 14)http://hplusmagazine.com/digitaledition/2009-fall/ that "Andy" the sex droid (geddit?) "can hold multiple sex positions, be ordered to simulate breathing, perform oral sex acts, have a pulse, be equipped with a g-spot that responds to orgasm, and much, much more." Another First Androids doll, says Scott, "has the most realistic fake areolas I have ever seen, and I've seen my fair share."
