| Losing weight - here's how I am doing it..what about you? Posted: 10/27/2009 1:39:30 PM | Thru the latter part of 2007, I was on the Nutri-System plan. It worked back then. From August 2007 to December 2007, I did lose 45 lbs. Now in October 2009, almost 2 years later, I gained back 35 of it. I started feeling sluggish again, and felt tired all the time. Just felt 'off.' I thought about the Nutri-system again, but the price was beyond my budget. (They require the first month payment up front in 1 lump sum).
So I took all that I learned from that plan and other people I talked to, and applied it to my present diet plan.
First - know some numbers Basal Metabolic Rate - Calories Burned when you are basically doing nothing or sleeping. http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
How many Calories a day does will it take for you to maintain your present weight? http://walking.about.com/cs/calories/l/blcalcalc.htm
How many calories equal 1 pound Answer = 3500 Burn off 3500 calories, you burn off 1 pound.
So..I take the number of calories it takes to maintain my present weight, and subtract my BMR and the calories I actually took in on a day.
The remainder gets saved like a savings account. When the Savings add up to 3500, I should have lost 1 pound. I can also subtract out any calories burned in exercise. I hope to lose the average 2-3 pounds a week and eating between 1300- 1500 calories a day. We will see how it all works out. I am on Day 3.

| Losing weight - here's how I am doing it..what about you? Posted: 10/27/2009 2:18:01 PM | oh..and to come up with how many calories I am actually taking in....I remembered that is what Nutri-system basically had me on. 1200-1500 a day. But whatever deficiency you create between what it takes to maintain your weight and what you actaully took in,....you should loose weight for each 3500 calories that are skipped or burned off.
Now..this is all about dating right? LOL. For me, I just want to look good for the next person I meet.

My daily calculation of calories to maintain my weight was upward of 2500. I am sustaining around 1500 a day. I eat what I want..as long as the daily intake is around 1500. I will give you my average menu that I eat in the next post.
So far, this is working for me. What works for you? Like I said..we all want to look good for dating, so I figured and weight loss post would fit in and we can all support each other and share ideas.

| Losing weight - here's how I am doing it..what about you? Posted: 11/2/2009 12:58:22 PM | Breakfast is 1/2 cup oatmeal mixed with 1 cup water. Mixed up...then microwave for 4 minutes. Its thick when its done. I throw a bunch of cinnimon on it for taste (150 Calories) , 1 Apple (110 Calories), and 1 Banana (100 calories) with water.
Lunch well..Subway has an all Veggie sub. Order it on Wheat with Vinegar and Salt/pepper. A foot long is 460 calories and is filling.
Other wise, I buy frozen entrees courses and all are between 260 and 350 calories. Add a Apple (110 Calories), and 1 Banana (100 calories) with water.
This is basically Dinner too.
No fast food. And when I go out, its ice tea for me.
Other wise....Miller Lite is 90 calories a bottle and that new MGD 64 is out as well. but alcohol will slow the metabolism. Maybe I will have a POF walk day! LOL

A great snack that I discovered is pickles. One spear is 5-10 calories and really does fill you up.
Good luck! | |

| Losing weight - here's how I am doing it..what about you? Posted: 11/22/2009 1:56:51 PM | To answer the question, I myself do a combination of watching what I eat and doing P90X every day.
Another good piece of advice...try not to use boxed meals. TV dinners, Hamburger Helper, etc. are all just chemicals! Try to cook as much from scratch as you possibly can - the internet abounds with great recipes, and once you get used to doing it, the effort really isn't all that much compared to the result. Good luck to you!
