Just thought I would ask for a little advise, I am new to online dating. I hate the sound of that, it makes me think of the Brad Paisley song "Cooler Online" I have been a single father raising three daughters for the last decade and now that my girls are older I have a little more freedom to get out of the house and socialize. I have had people look at my profile but never send a note. Just curious.

Once again, most women don't take the intiative to write to guys...so start writing to the women you are interested in. Peolple look just to look. Don't read any more into that.

It looks to me that (maybe?) you are a "few extra pounds." I'm not saying that to insult you, but if it is so, women that you meet may feel that you have deceived them in your profile. Trust me, that is way worse to us than being honest.

Might want to say a few words about the type of woman you are looking for...

Good luck. You are new here, don't get discouraged too quickly.

Wow! You could be the male equivalent of me a while back. Heh!

I don't know that there is anything you can do about it (other than change the main profile pic) but the way the site crops your photo as it appears beside your forum post makes you look about 60. Not in the actual photo tho. Strange. As for the other pics, can't really see you very well at all. Get some better ones. Some might tell you to lose the pic on the boat but since you say you enjoy and spend a lot of time on it I think it is fine to have a pic of you and your boat. Just a better one.

You need in your interests section. There are several things you talk about in your description which you don't list in your interests, including your boat, the lake, shooting pool, time with your girls, and pursuing your degree.

Don't get discouraged none of the women who have looked at your profile have messaged you. Oddly enough it seems quite a few POF women wait for men to contact them. Are you doing that?

Well maybe I need to delete my pics, one said I look fifty and one said I'm fat lol. Actually I am 6'3" 245 and am in quite good shape. I work out regularly and am pretty solid for my age, just a big guy overall. Can't do much about looking fifty though, maybe I have just led a hard life. Thanks for the insight though.

Photos can be deceiving but yep yours make you look a bit over average.

You have only 2 interests! Makes you seem kind of boring.

About me section – We really know almost nothing about you at this point. Why would a lady contact you???

First date – get some balls and make a suggestion.

I do wish you the best,
Ron

Say more about what you're looking for, and YOU be the one to 1:make first contacts (especially when you give us so little to go on) and 2:come up with the "memorable date". If you met a nice woman and asked her out, what would you like to do? If you can't think of anything, think harder. Put some effort into this or it won't work.
You may also want to mention if your girls live with you, or are all over 18. Could be some ladies are avoiding the "possible stepmother" routine. You seem very nice though so good luck to you!

I agree with everything said above.

It is very sad but true that we all judge visually in seconds. With that in mind, the pictures have to tell the best story. Perhaps you have a friend who is a good photographer?

First off, I applaud you for having your pictures posted, AND having more than 1 AND one showing you actively pursuing your interest.

However, my first impression was that you were a geeky , large teddy bear-sized, 50-something used car salesman! Can you believe how far off the mark I was? Here are the cues that led me to this judgment:
Main photo: The hair brushes down from the front. I hate that, think it looks geeky. (Anyone else have that prejudice, or is it just me?) My husband (concerned about thinning hair) got his hair cut like that and I thought it reduced his attractiveness by at least 25%. The white shirt and window showing cars on a lot = used car salesman. And, for some reason, the photo seems to age you.

The boating photo just probably caught you from a bad ange, but you look very big - i.e. overweight.

I give you full rights to rip me when I'm finally brave enough to post a picture.

Perhas you could mention how old your girls are, not just over 18. I think we women will judge whether we want the drama of a 15 year old to deal with.

It sounds like you are a very nice, more sensitive than usual, caring persom, but that is reading between the lines. Just by the fact that you are asking for advice is making us women want to help you and like you.

And, yes, you have to send the emails out to those women who seem interesting. It is like making a soccer goal - - you have to kick a lot of balls at the goal to get any to go in.

Happy fishing.
