Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said Tuesday that he’d back a GOP filibuster of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s health care reform bill.

"We're trying to do too much at once," Lieberman said. “To put this government-created insurance company on top of everything else is just asking for trouble for the taxpayers, for the premium payers and for the national debt. I don’t think we need it now."

“I feel this way about a national, government-created health insurance company – whether it’s a trigger or not,” he said. “My answer is – we’re – we have the opportunity to do some great reforms here. These exchanges that we’re talking about, I think, are going to drive competition and probably bring the cost of health insurance down or at least contain the cost increases for a lot of people. Let’s give that two or three years to see how it works to see how it works before we talk about creating another entitlement that will end up increasing the national debt and putting more of a burden on taxpayers.”

Joe seems to not be the only one that the Democrats were counting on to get the health bill passed who is sayin "NO!!" or backing off.

Moderate Democratic senators long have voiced reservations about the public option, the cost of overhauling the health care system and other issues. Their informal roster includes Arkansas' Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor , Louisiana's Mary Landrieu , Virginia's Jim Webb and Mark Warner , Montana's Jon Tester , Nebraska's Ben Nelson , Indiana's Evan Bayh , North Dakota's Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan and Delaware's Thomas Carper .

Many said Tuesday that they weren't certain what they might do.

"I don't think we can reach any conclusions about this until we see the whole package," Conrad said.

Pryor echoed him: "I'm making no commitments until I see the bill."

While a majority of Senate Democrats are thought to favor a nationwide government-run system as one option in the health-care legislation, the moderates would prefer a more modest approach, and some have said they flatly oppose Reid's plan.

Lieberman said the opt-out plan "creates a whole new government entitlement program."

Lincoln has said she'd oppose any new government-run health care system. In addition, the two Republican moderates from Maine who sometimes side with Democrats on key votes said they wouldn't cross party lines this time.

"I don't see opt-out as any kind of compromise at all," said Sen. Susan Collins , echoing the position of Sen. Olympia Snowe .

Other key problems that Democratic centrists cited were the potential cost of the bill, and its lack of specifics.

"I want to read the details first," Bayh said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/20091027/pl_mcclatchy/3342694_1

If Lieberman is going to back a filibuster, he has to lose his committee chairmanship.

Sorry, you don't get to caucus with the Democrats then line up with the Republicans on the most important vote. This is such a small move to improve things - voting to deny sick people health care is what seperates the truly evil from the rest of us.

Speaking of Health Care what ever happened to the Republican proposal that was supposed to come out back in July?

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/10/27/gop-frustrated-health-care/

Guess the GOP was too busy cashing their checks from the insurance lobby to finish it.

Great party you got looking out for you there.

If Lieberman is going to back a filibuster, he has to lose his committee chairmanship.
And hopefully his seat in the Senate. I have a good description for him but I doubt it would be appropriate in the forums. Toning it down for the forums would be a disservice to the title I have for him ... so I just won't post it.

I think the Democrats should have relieved him of his committee chairmanship when he left the party. We already know of the

Guess Where Joe Lieberman Got Some Of His Primary Funding? (UPDATED)

Sep 6th, 2006

The White House funneled millions of dollars through major Republican Party contributors to Sen. Joseph Lieberman's primary campaign in a failed effort to ensure the support of the former Democrat for the Bush administration.

A senior GOP source said the money was part of Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove’s strategy to maintain a Republican majority in the Senate in November. The source said Mr. Rove, together with Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, directed leading pro-Bush contributors to donate millions of dollars to Mr. Lieberman’s campaign for re-election in Connecticut in an attempt that he would be a “Republican-leaning” senator.

“Joe Lieberman took the money but said he would not play ball,” the source said. “That doesn’t mean that this was a wasted investment.”
And sure enough ... it appears that Lieberman has a price on his head. He has a lot to lose if he does this ... the chairmanship and no doubt the next election. But then, there is always AIPAC ... he could fall back on them. While they seem to be able to pull a lot of weight ... I'm not sure they could buy him the election if he stabs the Democrats in the back.

I guess we'll just have to see how this plays out.

From what has been said on CNN and other news shows is that most contributions from the Republicans for the health care reform mess have been round filed.

The new public option presented by Reid is rumored to have had only one elected congressional official working on it Reid Its also rumored that very very few have been given the ability to even read it.

Joe is a scumbag.

He seems to have forgotten the promises he made during his election campaign.

July 6 2008
What I’m saying to the people of Connecticut, I can do more for you and your families to get something done to make health care affordable, to get universal health insurance.

October 23, 2006
I’ve been working on health insurance reform for more than a dozen years. … I have offered a comprehensive program. Small business health insurance reform, plus something I call MediKids to cover all the children in America on a sliding fee basis up until the age of 25.

MediChoice to allow anybody in our country to buy into a national insurance pool like the health insurance pool that we federal employees and Members of Congress have. Medical malpractice reform.

It will cover 95% of those who are not covered now, and it will reduce the pressure on rising costs for all the millions of others.

Lieberman has a reasonable approach to health care. He wants to implement some reforms, see the results and then proceed.

Lieberman is more than a scumbag but the name I have for him wouldn't go over well here in the forums.

The company his wife works for has been giving him money ... so that's more important than the welfare of millions of Americans ... (insert the name I have for that scumbag but can't write here). I hope he can sleep well at night with the thought of over 122 people per day who die because they cannot get medical insurance.

Personally, I'm not at all surprised that he can be bought. I've felt for a long time that he has a price on his head and this just confirms it. I wouldn't be surprised he's also getting millions from AIPAC ... DUH!!!

Lieberman is going against the majority of his constituents ... they will pay him back ... double ... for his appropriate representation.

I think Reid should force a filibuster...... Love it ... Lets hear it.

At some point the Majority will have enough.

If H/C fails to pass there will be some very upset people.

It will not be pretty. All those fake Town Hall meetings will have been tame ............

The current health care reform will die. Now maybe they can start over and first clean up all the waste and corruption. By doing this it will automatically make health care cheaper and more affordable for all.

Surprised that anyone is at a lost for names for Lieberman since most in these forums seem to not hold back when it comes to people who oppose any of Obama's issues such as Health Care.

Not at a loss for names for Lieberman ... just don't see the need to dirty up the forums with the name I have for him. Just following decorum here.

I just hope that his constituents remember what he did and I have a feeling they will.

Good God! I love those two faced idiots on the left! Arlen Spector switched parties and he was the greatest thing next to the messiah obama they had seen in years. Now..a honest, nobel man like Joe Lieberman speaks the truth, states undeniable facts, joins the Republicans IN A BI-PARTISAN way and the left screams like a little girl with her pony tail stuck in the spokes!

Don’t forget that Obama Care is NOT about actually giving “sick people health care”. It’s about giving them HEALTH INSURNCE (of sorts). Big, BIG difference, Dad.

The bills don’t guarantee health care itself -- just insurance premiums.

The reason ObamaCare is disliked so much is because it is believed by many in Congress and by the Congressonal Budget Office, that it will actually raise the cost of healthcare, and ultimately end in the rationing of health care. (So, that people will be paying MORE for insurance, but not actually getting any care).

The Baucus version of the (Senate Bill) requires that medicare be cut immediately to save money for ObamaCare. But ObamaCare won’t begin for 4 more years after it as passed. Medicare Advantage (Medicare subsidy paid for by Participants) will be eliminated.

Are you channeling Rep Mark Grayson now???

Heaven,
