| The term "Takes Care of Herself"......

I have read a number of profiles that say you men want a woman who "takes care of herself". I'm curious ....does that mean that they have to be in peak physical condition? Or are you talking mainly about grooming and personal hygiene? Or are you talking about not doing anything harmful to our bodies like smoking and drinking like a fish?
It would be great to hear from you guys who put that on your profile. I took it to assume that you didn't want anyone overweight (as I am), but I started to think on it and felt that maybe I was just being sensitive? That maybe you just want someone that doesn't look like they've been through the wringer....LOL.

This probably is a kinder gentler way of saying that, OR like the other poster who said a woman that baths more than twice a week, doesn't dress like a hoochy momma, and people don't think he just got her from the dog pound (ouch)
People try to be polite, and in some ways if a person is sensitive to the rejection of being called fat, I suppose that is kinder... | |

Posted: 10/30/2009 6:25:59 AM | It just takes some common sense. If you're looking at a profile and the person lists themselves as thin or atheletic and state they like to exercise and their photos back this up, then... more than likely... they are not interested in someone who is overweight.
Just taking one phrase and trying to extract a meaning that suits your needs is only going to result in disappointment, you have to look at the ENTIRE profile and draw your conclusions based on all the evidence presented.
Personally, I have tried dating women who dont exercise on a regular basis and who dont follow decent eating habits and I find it to be too much of a difference in a core value area and a strong indication of different belief systems... which means that ultimately the relationship will not work. | |

You make a good argument easyman when looking at a person who does take care of himself, and puts the effort in to live a healthy life style... However there are a good number of men who are NOT taking care of themselves, but want a Barbie doll on their arm.
Core values are important, however some people can manage just fine if they are willing to compromise...
IE: My husband does not have a car, and rides a bike. I have asked him since he has moved out to the area that I live, which is a bit of distance to his work if he would get a car. His answer is no, I have no reason to change my exercise routine, or add to the pollution in the air..
Thus we have one vehicle which I had prior to meeting him. That is his core value, me, I am a fair weather bike rider, don't drive a lot, but we both allow for this difference between each other...
Sometimes love isn't always in the package you think it should be in, however if there are things you simply can't live with, then it is good to be honest about it... | |

If I look at someone and I have absolutely ZERO desire to EVER sleep with them, I can tell you I will never allow the relationship to progress to the point where I would be attached to them.
But I list LTR because its what I want. Does that mean that we meet for coffee today and then tomorrow we're in a LTR? No. It means, as others have said, that LTR is my ultimate goal. | |

Posted: 11/3/2009 3:00:51 PM | my interpretation of 'takes care of herself' is that she has to be mindful of her physical appearance, in and out. don't mean she gotta be a model, super fit, skinny, or athletic. just means that she makes an effort to be and stay healthy. a little meat on a woman's bones ain't a bad thing. but TOO much meat, well, yeah, that's a bad thing but only if they're not trying to obtain/maintain a healthy lifestyle.
you can lump skin condition, drugs, cigs, alcohol, red bull, caffeine, and other stuff into the 'takes care of herself' mix too. it ain't always about the size. sometimes it's the stuff you don't see. i mention skin cuz if a chick has bad skin due to her not being mindful of the damage the sun can cause, and it's to the point of being irreversible and it's clearly visible and unsightful, then it wouldn't go beyond friendship in my book. | |

The bottom line is this: When either man or woman puts this in their profile it clearly means one thing "No Fatties" period, end of story regardless of what anyone says.
It's just a nice way of saying if your A$$ hangs over the bicycle seat and rubs on the tires you're too damn fat......... | |

Like I said, if the person writing the profile lists thin/atheletic, the pictures show thin/atheletic, the interest list physical activities that would require one to be in shape and the profile says they like to exercise there are REALLY good odds that the person doesn't want someone who is even average and certainly NOT BBW. | |

I always thought "Takes care of herself" means she earns her own living, is knowledgeable and proficient in the art of check writing and bill paying, can change a tire if AAA is busy, takes the trash out and can fetch her own brewsky from the kitchen. You know - those types of things.
Guess it's like LTR.....Everyone has their own perspective!
Maybe a thread should be started on "What is normal"? How many different perspectives do you think you'd get?? | |
