| Capital letters Posted: 11/1/2009 1:59:21 AM | | Is it just me? I've noticed an increasing aversion among people posting on here and particularly in their profiles to the use of capital letters, both to begin sentences and to denote proper nouns. I see this and I immediately start to think less of the person - either for being too lazy or for simply not knowing. Am I being too judgemental? Is it a trend in the language and should I just accept it? | |

No, you shouldn't accept it - grammatical bast*ardisation is the yardstick by which our dates should be assessed, even if they're street-smart, hot, intelligent & sincere. Don't accept any spelling errors either - another sign of half-ars*ed effort - especially of basic words like 'judgemental'....although I'm sure none of your date(s) would be judgmental about it.

| Capital letters Posted: 11/1/2009 2:18:38 AM | I can only assume that judgemental without the 'e' is American English, and with the 'e' is British English. Given that Aus English originated from British English and not American English, then I guess with the 'e' is the original and best version. But whether you use an e or drop an e, drinking lots of water is vital.
As for the original question, the whole issue of the correctness of grammar in posts/profiles is well and truly D2D. Accept it, or not,...your attitude to it really impacts on nobody but you.

| Capital letters Posted: 11/2/2009 4:22:29 PM | I think this debate is going to rage on till the end of time.Which according to some people is in 2012.Should you accept it,only you can answer that question. Is it a trend in language, when we have people from other parts of the world for whom English is not their first language, maybe we need to be a little more forgiving. For me,if some one makes an attemp to write a post that i can read and understand, that'll be ok by me.If you want to think less of me by my abilities in this area,it's all sticks and stones.
Personally, there are more important reasons in which i'll think less of people.Mistreatment of animals and mistreatment of children are two that spring to mind.

It gets me how we're so mixed. Even schools will adopt the English version for some words and the American for another. Just pick one and stick to it.
I was once belittled because I spelt cheque (as in bank cheque) the way I did and not check. Yes he was American and yes it was in Australia.
