| Captivating qualities? Posted: 11/2/2009 1:16:32 PM | I'm wondering what qualities people find most captivating in potential partners. I'm not just talking about looks, but what's behind the looks. I'm also not talking about what we're looking for. I'm talking about the things that take us so thoroughly by surprise when we find them that we are instantly captivated.
Hotness is an obvious example but I think it's overdone. I have been even more floored by a look of patience and grace on the part of a woman of quality. A look like that can make me wish I had the privilege of working hard for the rest of my life to keep her happy.
So there are two qualities: White heat and bright light from within. What other qualities would tempt you to turn your life upside down in order to be with someone?

Physically she has a body that is perfectly perportioned, natural red hair and aging wrinkles that are perfectly aligned with eyes set just so...unbelievable...then add to it her similar strong personality traits

| Captivating qualities? Posted: 11/2/2009 1:42:22 PM | Ya know Ace, it's funny. You hit on two of the qualities that first came to mind when I ready your first sentence......patience and grace. Someone who is obviously there, in a world of calm and obviously comfortable within and with happy contentment, and so much so that it shows in how they relate to and also treat others with peace and respect. When that type of Inner Joy comes through, it's powerful! That's not meaning to be saying that 'sedentary' is where it's at either. But, often I read profiles that can't seem to say enough about how much activity the author likes to keep themselves wrapped up in. You know the ones, "I like to do this and that and the other thing and when I'm not doing those, you can find me doing some other stuff at another place too, and on top of all of that I go camping 17 times a week and work out between all of that too - find me at Starbucks most getting my next fill-up of caffiene so I can keep up with myself, but ya better be going fast too because if you're not, I'll probably run you over! or at least yell at you for not keeping up!"........and when I read those I usually think, "wow....what are you on the run from!?". Give me someone a bit more calm, content with self and others, with a few simpler interests, and who knows how to keep track of the real priorities in life, and I'll be happy for meeting ones like that any day. | |

| Captivating qualities? Posted: 11/2/2009 4:22:47 PM | ^^^Sure wish I could go camping 17 times a week! But I would need a LOT of vinde lattes, which I don't drink, to do all that packing and unpacking Then there is that thing called work, that keeps getting in the way.
But for me it could be, an engaging conversationist and a bit of adventure so that no matter what stage of life you are in, there is fun to be had.

Since the word means to influence and dominate by some special charm, art, or trait and with an irresistible appeal, I guess it would be someone who has a combination of wit, great intellect, humility, yet some special energy that makes me hope that he doesn't shut up since he is so interesting to listen to.

| Captivating qualities? Posted: 11/2/2009 7:12:58 PM | "captivating" is subjective, imo. I'm just going to call it at it's basest-- chemistry, time stopping, zing, "it", heart pounding, knee buckling, naughty thoughts flashing, lust-inducing, making me feel all funny inside! like the flu.
isn't it really a matter of being at the right moment with the right person that captivates our every nerve ending?
kinda hard to label that feeling and why we feel it.

Dude!
I'm not much of a C&W fan, but I do love that song by Lee Ann Womak:
I hope you dance!!! | |

| Captivating qualities? Posted: 11/5/2009 9:09:09 PM | | Not charm!! Those are the most dangerous kind. I don't trust charming women. I usually ignore them. A woman that is almost happy and adaptable in any situation is a great quality, humor, laughter and passion.....I just had one of those several years ago....but again.....there was "charm" in the middle......kindness too. I think kindness is the biggest factor for me. Someone who is kind. I've met a few of those women or it seems more of them lately in the real world. Note to all those other men out there single this time of year.....women always seem so much more friendly in the malls and just out in the public places this time of year, November and December. I've noticed it the past couple of years and I got another reminder today from a drive up teller. She asked me did I want my cash any particular way (a loaded question for someone like me), so I answered "yeah, preferrably back through this teller machine"....then she jabbed back..."oh yeah, I see, not red or blue, but defintely green?" She then began asking all kinds of questions about my Halloween (that was 5 days ago!!), how my day was and we started having a full-fledged conversation......tis the season my friends...trust me on this one!! | |

And a glimmer of softness when he talks about his kids, it's there, in the eyes, kind of like a twinkle. He doesn't get all mushy, but you can see how much they mean to him. Yah, that works for me.

| Captivating qualities? Posted: 11/6/2009 3:07:16 AM | | There's something about Mary McDonnell, or at least the characters she's played. It's a combination of her voice, her eyes, a certain kind of calm manner that comes through, even when she plays troubled characters, a nonchalant but strong interest in men--and her face. Whatever it adds up to, it's very appealing to me. | |

| Captivating qualities? Posted: 11/6/2009 5:31:57 AM | Virginia Madsen in "Sideways" describing why she loved Pinot Noire wine. She could not have been more attractive had she taken off her clothes and put my beer in a chilled glass, polished my golf clubs and asked me to described every shot in my golf game that day. But seriously anyone who has thought that much about a subject, spoke so lovingly of the people and land, and had a Director of Photography who bathed her in such soft light....captivating is the word.
Women with a large story arc, a from-to traversed with dignity. A mind that has seen the truly awful, and the truly amazing and remains intact. No whining about how George Bush don't love her cause he woulda given her health care or made some poor schmuck tun in his guns and old pickup. Those women travel well even if you never leave home.

Yep... when I feel he is impressed with what I have to say ... mentally stimulating and respectful conversations .... I looked back over prior relationships and that was always the common factor in the initial attractions ... the feeling of being respected by someone I respected.

| Captivating qualities? Posted: 11/8/2009 5:29:54 PM | | That movie still gives me the creeps. Something about the idea of not being able to move--like at the end of "Rear Window," when Jimmy Stewart's in his wheelchair and hears the killer's footsteps right outside his door . . . captivated, for sure. | |
