| EnergyFirst - Supplement questions Posted: 11/2/2009 2:35:29 PM | I've been researching protein shakes and found one that looks pretty damn good compared to others I've looked at. EnergyFirst is all-natural, low calories, low sugars, high protein... It seems to be everything I was looking for in a protein shake and I definitely want to try it out.
While on their site, I saw that they offered other all-natural products, as well. They have something called Greenergy which boasts providing the body with a variety of greens. While I eat probably more greens than the average American, I certainly don't eat most of the greens their product contains in a day, a week, or even a year. Another product they sell that interests me is their Omega Mix Blend. I'm not sure what the nutritional difference between this and their oil blend is (besides calorie and fat content) but the ground mix is what's included in their Express Shake Kit. The advantages of consuming these products is what interests me a great deal, but I'm confused about whether or not I should or if I need to.
I do eat quite a few fruits/veggies/nuts/seeds throughout the day... though probably not as many or as varied as what their products offer. I also take a supplement I had found online that's meant to be a preventative measure against Alzheimer's (which my mom was diagnosed with at the age of 46, being the first in our family's known history to get the awful disease) called Total Balance Unisex by XtendLife.
The question I have is if I'd be overdoing it by using all these products. I also drink 6-8 cups of green tea a day, which I enjoy, and don't know if I should continue consuming it the regular way if I'm consuming the greenergy drink. And should I continue using the Total Balance supplements? They contain high doses of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, as well as other herbs (such as turmeric) thought to prevent brain degenerative diseases. I suppose I could just eat a lot more turmeric in my diet and quit taking the pills... how much is too much? Is the protein shake, in addition to my already mostly nutritious and whole-foods diet sufficient enough do ya think?

| EnergyFirst - Supplement questions Posted: 11/2/2009 3:13:19 PM | There are so many supplements out there, where does it end. I think if you are getting lots of greens, maybe just go with that. There's always someone with the next greatest thing. I keep it simple, Protien mix, a thermogenic, CLA, and ground flax seed are all I take. Like you, I get lots of greens, veggies and some fruit, eggs yogurt and cheese. (Chicken and steak as well)
You get a health book from the store, and god you could spend hundreds upon hundreds a month if you bought into everything they are selling.

| EnergyFirst - Supplement questions Posted: 11/2/2009 6:10:31 PM | Pills are never going to able to replace a well balanced diet. All I take now is a multivitamin and fish oil as any supplements along with a single protein shake post workout. After a few years of working out I've realized I didn't need all those extra supplements out there.
Supplements such as amino acids and others can actually cause toxicity in your system if you're already getting enough proteins etc. through your regular diet. They rarely are necessary unless you're a vegan.
I did just get some Focus XT for energy on my days that i'm just not feeling it and I think it works decent since I am not sensitive to most energy/focus products. It's pretty cheap too and tastes good.
