| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:26:08 PM | Hello! So here it is.... I have recently lost 119 lbs. The messed up part is that body image is still a little skewed. My brother says, I am average now. I still think I am "a few extra pounds". I don't want to be ruled out by those who want average if I am average but stating I am a few extra pounds. Does that make sense? Anyway. I have great self confidence, just a little skewed in the vsual and would love some feedback from guys! Thanks! | |

| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:29:23 PM | First, congrats on the weight loss. I don't know if you did it with diet and exercise (only) or had bariatric surgery as well. Either way, it is not easy and I don't have to tell you that your life is going to be much different.
Now, I did look at your pic and I would classify you as "a few extra pounds"
Good luck with the fishing!!
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:30:02 PM | | Since you have a full body shot on your profile it doesn't really matter what does it say. People can see what you look like, and BTW you look great. There is a lot of "confusion" between average and a few extra pounds here anyway. Average in your town may be different from avearge in my town. | |

| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:31:57 PM | | Thanks! Life has been different.. and I did it with permanant small changes! | |
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:34:05 PM | Wow, you have the best profile I've ever read on POF. Too bad you're not a guy, I'm sure I'd fall in love with you! Seriously, you can put "average" or a "few extra pounds", I doubt it really matters. You're beautiful and I'm sure any man with half a brain will grab you once he's read your profile. Good luck. | |
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:35:51 PM | | It's very subjective views in men. Often times may depend on where on ur body it is. | |
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:38:53 PM | Like the lady above said, if your pics are current, don't sweat it. I'd say you're average to a few extra pounds. Either would fit you.
Congrats on the weight loss.

| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:40:26 PM | Congratulations.. Good to see someone DO something to improve their own self-image as well as their health..
I'd agree with poster 2.. that you ARE still a few extra pounds. It all depends on how you WANT to look. I mean.. 120 lbs IS a full person at your height. It would be a slender person.. but still a full NOT anorexic person. That being said, it's more important you get to a weight that YOU can both feel good about how you look.. AND not have it be so obsessive to BE at that weight.. or particular size. The feeling-good-about-myself ATTITUDE will do MORE to attract men.. then a particular weight.
It isnt about your brother.. or we forumposters.. it's about how YOU see yourself.. and then that ONE MAN who will find you absolutely RAVISHING and want to keep you for life.
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:43:45 PM | | hey congrats!! .. i personally hate the stupid stock descriptors on a profile. add to your profile exactly what u wrote here... lost 119 lbs...that alone shows your strength and character | |
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:46:19 PM | | Do you think that posting my website would be a good thing... or will people just think... (and some do in life) that it is only temporary. I know i did it the right way. I made one small permanent change at a time... but.... they wouldn't... | |
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:48:44 PM | | I dunno aboot Canada, but down here in the real world, or the US, a few extra pounds is the average. We likes our fast food. Maybe the Canadian diet is less excessive and people are on average without those few extra pounds. Anyway, you look good so don't worry about it. I just remembered you don't even have pounds, you have kilograms and nanometers. How come the site is Canadian and uses the designation of pounds? Did pounds make a comeback? Can I drive miles when I visit or is it still kilometers and furlongs? England has pounds but for money, of which a few extra is always a good thing. I've been no help, sorry. | |
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 5:49:53 PM | | Congratulations on the weight loss! You have every right to feel great, and I hope this eminates from every part of who you are. You might find yourself more interested in dating guys who pick up on that, rather than the ones who may focus on the difference between the "average" and "a few extra pounds" labels. | |

| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 6:17:35 PM | "Do you think that posting my website would be a good thing... or will people just think... (and some do in life) that it is only temporary."
This has been brought up before and some will not see it as a positive.....People will probably assume it is temporary because everyone sees a fair number of people go up and down....
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 6:32:17 PM | Do you think that posting my website would be a good thing... or will people just think...
I'd advise against it. Not to take away from your achievement, but drawing too much attention to your weight loss is probably not a good idea. Unless you want to make it your life mission to help others do the same. Endless weight loss talk can be a turnoff. You are what you are now. Don't drag your past into your present moment.
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 6:32:19 PM | 120 lbs IS a full person at your height. It would be a slender person..
I am only 4'11", 118 pounds, do not look "full" but slender and I workout 5 days a week (weights, cardio, and a healthy diet). Some people say that I am thin and others say that 118 pounds is a lot for a person my height. My doctor says that I am good and my bodyfat is within healthy range.
How you look as opposed to how you carry your weight makes a difference. I look the same as I did when I was 16 and 95 pounds and the heaviest I have ever been is 202 pounds. Having children and age is a difference.
|
| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 6:37:15 PM | The profile description, drop down box....it's subjective.
Subjective meaning there are a crapload of threads about this topic..both genders.
What I HAVE learned from being here and active/reading and posting in the forums. It's not all about any one aspect, it could go back and forth.
I hope that whatever you've done it was for yourself. Whatever you do to invest in yourself, your future, your self esteem....that'll always be a positive and add to your self esteem. Make it for you and realize that anything else is a bonus.
You've accomplished something wonderful that was important for you, don't be distracted it was for you. I've done things for ME, that aren't maybe as physically obvious, but when you feel good about you, even when people don't notice, they sense it.
Whatever you do that makes you feel good, the value is intrinsic. It's yours, whether people notice it or not.
You've invested in yourself, that's always a great positive thing.
Wow I've read some of the posts, what you did you did for you. It's a forum, you'll get some crapola...I'm sure you're proud of yourself, I'm proud of you too. Not just for the weight loss, which is achieving a goal but for how it made you feel about you.
My inbox is open, I enjoy encouraging and affirming people who are moving in an affirmitive and positive direction. Write whenever you want, I'm cheering you on!

| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 7:12:27 PM | I wouldn't worry about what the body type section says. You have pics displayed and guys can determine for themselves if you're their type. Just be sure to have pics that don't skew what your body type really is. Certain angles can do that.
On another note, congrats on all the weight loss. 119 lbs is a BIG accomplishment!
I dunno about Canada, but down here in the real world, or the US...
Typical American arrogance. Nothing positive will come from it.

| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 7:14:31 PM | OP, I have been in your shoes and have lost the weight myself. I know what it is like to struggle with the body image. Trust me, it will hit you one day. I was walking down a very narrow aisle in a store and saw a woman coming at me with a cart. I was thinking "wth is this woman doing, we are not going to fit here." A second later I realized there was a mirror at the end of the clothes rack and the woman I saw was myself. I didn't even recognize me lol
I applaud you for it and honestly, I'll agree with bucsgirl. My inbox is open as well if you need help and encouragement.
For me, I know I have a few more pounds to lose so that's why I have mine set as it is. To me, you are average. To some guys you will be average, some you will be a few extra pounds.
Some just like to spew off a bunch of crap to make you feel like you haven't accomplished anything. Don't listen to them :)

| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 7:32:10 PM | OP, first I want to congratulate you for the weight loss. I lost 80 pounds over the last two years, so I know that it's not easy - but I agree with you, it does seem to be the small things that do it, huh?
Now as to your picture, frankly I think your left arm isn't doing you any favors in the photo. You have it right next to your body, and thus in the photo your body looks a little wider than I really think it is. Personally, in the photo you would go in my judgment as "a few extra pounds", I think if you took a more flattering photo with your arms in the air or something like that, so you show off your body, I think you could go for average.
And I agree with the others - I hate the pull-down menu. If I was king of PoF, I would eliminate the category altogether and just tell posters to post a full body picture since everyone's opinion of body shape is subjective. Actually, as a guy, it is one of the categories that I am completely cool with a woman putting "Prefer Not to Say" - just as long as she posts a full body shot. It really is a wild goose chase.
edit: Oh, and I almost forgot to say: I hope this doesn't come across as forward, but your body looks very nice in your photos.

| Weight Loss Posted: 11/2/2009 9:16:39 PM | Bravo girl!!! Sorry I'm not a guy response, but felt impelled to response! Weight loss is a great feeling, and as long as you carry yourself confidently, and wear the clothes to accent your body type, you'll "get er done!" and you do have a Great Profile! Congrat's, and good luck to you! p.s...The close-up photo with flower is gorgeous! | |
