Paintball can get expensive. The good ones are outside and have huge play areas, the indoor ones arent worth it.

Laser Tag is cheap. Its indoors and everyone can play.

To check out where the locations are, go to google maps and search.

Paintball is way more fun mainly because your really don't wanna get hit. It actually stings a bit so you end up rolling around on the ground and crawling.

Yea but like the poster above says, it does get expensive if you go crazy firing.

Well there are no paintball "arenas" in the lower mainland, the only way to play is outdoors, and even in bad weather it's more fun than lazertag.
paintballers have a saying...those that can, play paintball, those that can't, play lazertag.
For a grown up adrenalin rush, paintball wins hands down, lazertag is geared toward the under 12 set, too young to play paintball. As for being expensive, it all depends on what you want to do, it can be cheaper than a movie..........................Am I biased?.......yes I am.

If you're looking for a decent place to play hit me up i can make recomendations for you, after 21 years in the biz, I can help steer you to a decent place to play, I hope.

I think an artist needs a visible medium to express his or herself. I can see a man like^
you would really excel at this game. I wouldn't mind playing if I did not get shot. I don't want to be all bruised up.

Awww, c'mon now. Don't you see how that would take out all the fun of the game?

If you want to shoot at people you have to be a target for others to shoot at too!

I recommend going for the Laser tag since everyone is on the same playing field of machinery. When it comes to Paintballers they generally end up with guns that fire around twice what the stock ones you rent. It's like they need some sort of advantage over the whole experience factor. Makes you think they just like picking on people, which from the sounds of some of the posts in here, seems to be the case.

^^ could you clarify for those of us who haven't played paintball? Do you mean they rent out guns with different firing capabilities? So depending on what you pay, you get a weapon with different firing ability? Sounds like unfair advantage based on economics.....hmmm they don't paint them green or yellow do they?

okay, someone just filled me in. They can bring their own weapons? That doesn't seem fair!

**but the game sounds fun, and I have always wanted to play :)

My sister was playing with a group last weekend on Nanaimo Lakes Rd. She said it was $35.00 for all the equipment and 300 paint balls. They played for 2 hours and had plenty of ammunition. She did have some welts on her butt however that was because her ten year old thought it was funny to shoot her in the ass at point blank range. She said if you just wear some heavier cloths and try not to shoot anyone to close, it is relatively safe. I think the expensive part is likely the beer afterwards...

Ok, man, I am convinced and willing to be shot at ---- yikes! However, I think it would be a lot of fun, so does anyone have enough sense to organize such an event.

Yep, but I wouldn't take it on until the spring. Maybe someone else could organize it sooner, and we could have another one in the spring? If there are not too many booboos
And I'm wearing protective gear and maybe a diaper

Sounds like fun. Would the birthday person get extra ammunition? Bodyguards? A tank? Get to play in the mud?

oops. Am I supposed to be on here?

My experience is that paintball fields have days that groups can rent the field, where it's just the group there for the afternoon/day and on other days anyone can play. On the days anyone can play, people with good equipment (which includes being able to shoot faster) and much more practise will likely be there. If there is a group of 12-20 people or so it becomes a better idea to just rent the field and get a group discount. The rental stuff is often all the same though.

Okay to put to rest all the comments about faster harder better equipment etc

Most fields will try to keep the experienced players away from the "newbie" renters, basic and simple.....if you have fun you come back, you come back we make more money, having you get shot up by an experienced player is just dumb on an owners part.

As for the faster better guns, better maybe, .........faster no
All paintball guns are required to sahoot at 300 feet per second or less, so no advantage there, can they shoot more balls per second...yes, but it only takes one break to put you out. Most players with their own equipment play the game on a regular basis, it's not the equipment in most cases, but the experience, that makes them better than you as an adrenanalin pumped new player.
Private bookings are the best way to go, that way it's just your group of people and no one else, private ref, private field, and really no more cost ( actually cheaper) just a matter of having a few extra people beforehand. The alternative is "Drop in" and that is when all "single" players join together to form the group, people with rentals and their own equipment, generally the ref will split up own equipment owners so the teams are balanced, again customer stisfaction is paramount.

To the person in nanimo who's 10 year old shot his friend up......you show me any INSURED paintball field that allows 10 year olds to play?. Just doesn't happen, there are a number of fly by nights around still, who are there to grab the money and run.

As for any Booboos, I've been playing the game for 21 years at all levels from renter to Pro, and have no marks caused by paintballs ( blown out both knees) but nothing due to being hit.

The one on the North Shore, ask for Andy, he'll make sure you have a good time.

And that's what paintball is all about, having fun, the urban legends of "frozen paintballs" fully auto guns that will rip you up, are just that word of mouth by people who know no better.

Any paintball field worth it's weight in customer return business, and customer care, will make sure you have fun, and want to come back again and bring your friends.

Talking about adrenanalin rush .... I was as tired sneaking around slowly through the forest as I would have been running a mile. Paintballs do leave quite a welt when you are hit though.

And better equipment does help like face masks that do not fog up when you have dug in waiting for the enemy. But this is no different than real war when one side has better weponary.

Paintball Rocks!!!

My son and I play out here in Maple Ridge...he is a high-powered rifle/scope full camo dude and I am just an old coug running around in sweats with a straw and a spitball, but it is great exercise and fun for the mind. He has been hit a number of times even in full protective gear and it does leave round welts...but it is a great excuse to run around in the bush for awhile and get dirty.

Lasertag is kind of lame and shortlived compared to running around in the bush for a couple of hours. Good for those who want to stay clean and indoors I guess, prob better for first group meet kind of situations. I don't see a lot of cougs playing paintball, but there are a few. It would surely sort out those 'fibbing' about their 'athletic' body types.
