I am pregnant, do I dare to take the swine flu vaccine?

So I am in a terrible position about deciding whether to take the swine flu jab or not!

At one part, it is much worse to get the swine flu if pregnant.

But then, Sweden only offers the vaccine containing mercury (I think this is very arrogant, they should offer the mercury free one to pregnant and children but suppose they wanted to save money....) and I am afraid of the impact of the vaccine on the fetus.

What do you think? Would love to hear someone else's opinion about it all.

A lot of people call me crazy for being scared of the vaccine and not fearing getting the swine flu more as I am pregnant and a lot of the death cases has been pregnant women...

And I also wanted to say that in Norway it seems to be a version of swine flu that is much more aggressive so am a bit worried that one might come here as I live in Sweden...

In a recent study of pregnant women who had been given the vaccine, within 21 days the vaccine created an immune response in over 90% of the women which is believed to be protective from H1N1.

Congratulations about having a baby on the way! It is so good that you are concerned about doing the best thing for your child.

I don't want to scare you, but there is a lot of information in this article with regard to pregnancy and the flu shot.

I think you should read up on it and then make an informed decision based on what you know. Then do what your instincts tell you to do, based on what you know about things in your country. Then, even if by chance something does go wrong, you can say for sure that you did the best you could with the information you had available to you, and don't feel guilty about your decision, whatever it is.

By Dr.s Mercola and Dr. Russell Blaylock, a board certified neurosurgeon (www.russellblaylockmd.com) who is a researcher.

I wouldn't take the information and opinions on a dating site forum as the definitive answer by any means...

I usually have no trouble making decisions but this time I am standing all confused!
I appreciate all replies and thank you so much for the congratulation Ideoform and I am just now listening to the video and reading the article as well.

I am called to get vaccinated on tuesday but still dont know what i will do.
I also can relate to what you say not listening to forum posts but I keep reading different information and it is hard to know what is true and what is not!
:(

If I just could avoid having to take the bus twice a week then I wouldnt even consider the vaccine but having to take the bus twice a week really worries me as I see buses as a major spreading point. And there is no other way for me to get there than bus:( And I cant stop going there either:(

Ok. Here are some suggestions, that you might not like. They are perhaps inconvenient, but having a sick child or loosing a pregnancy is also very inconvenient, to say the least.

I have seen people taking the bus wearing masks lately. I guess you could do that. Wear gloves, carry alcohol and wipes with you, and if someone is sick near you, move to another seat. I think people will understand you looking a bit different, if they can see that you are pregnant. When my daughter had cancer, the only way we could bring her home when she was on chemo was for all of us to wear masks. It was worth it to have her home for a few days from the hospital.

Wash your hands before and after taking public transit. Talk to your employer about alternative transportation while you are pregnant. If your employer is paying for your health insurance, they might consider it less expensive to help you with that, than to pay for the costs of a very sick baby. Perhaps you can carpool. Do you know any other pregnant women? Perhaps they would give you rides since they would understand your fears.

I used to take the bus all through college and to go to my first few jobs. I know they aren't the cleanest places. I had a different coat I wore only on the bus because it was darker and less likely to show stains. I have actually dated a bus driver, who brought alcohol gel with him to work, and used it on the steering wheel before starting...

I have to say, that when I wrote to the bus company about some issues with regard to our public transit, they did implement some changes. I think that service people and agencies are way more responsive now to this kind of input because they don't want to loose riders to this pandemic. I think any public service, carried out in a public place, should be the best example of what we should be doing. After all, it is the public agencies that are telling us to take this flu virus so seriously. If they aren't doing everything they can to protect the public from contagions spreading, then we need to pressure them to do so.

I think busses should have alcohol wipes available just like they do at my grocery store. I think they should be cleaned more often, and there needs to be better ventilation and lighting. And I think that there needs to be a way for them to refuse obviously sick passengers. In this case, compassion is warranted, and so alternative transportation of sick people should be made available so they can get to their Doctor or hospital.

The other thing is to just take really good care of yourself. Build up your immune system by getting enough sleep, get enough vitamin D, get sunshine and fresh air. Don't eat processed foods laden with chemicals. Try switching to all organic foods to minimize the toxic burden on your system. Avoid sugar. Sugar suppresses your immune system for several hours after you eat it.

You can do what Dr. Oz recommends and rinse your mouth with salt water to minimize the spread of any virus that you do come into contact with. He recommends that you get a saline nasal rinse, too. Don't touch your face with your hands. Use a tissue or something else to touch your face.

Your immune system is stronger if you are dealing with stress well. Try taking yoga, or learning meditation. Take a class in how to deal well with stress. Do what you can to the best of your ability, then remind yourself to not worry. Worry doesn't help anything, it just drains you of energy.

The best way to judge information is to talk to people you trust. You don't know anyone here. Go to a variety of sources, then take what you find out and discuss it with people you know and trust. Then go with what your instincts tell you, even if it isn't the same as what other people are saying. Never underestimate a mother's instincts.

You are the one who has to live with the end results of your decisions, not us. Its easy for people to give advice here, because we never have to see or deal with the results. So make the right decision for you.

You will need these same qualities to raise your children, good information, people you can trust, and strong instincts. And the ability to follow what you know is right, even if it isn't the popular thing...

Even pets are at risk for the swine flu. A cat was reported as having contracted it from it's owner.

Anyhoo, if you are in doubt, talk to your obstetrician and get a second opinion. Good to worry, you have a right to know about the health of your unborn baby. Get that opinion and the second one, too.

Why do people never never seem to look at eating a healthy diet as one of the main protections against any bug or what not, i mean eating well and staying away from processed foods that come in a package. How about you eat raw veggies and fruit and eat seeds and legumes, wild rice...etc...there is so much great food you could eat, that could keep you healthy...but people are so quick to run and put a on band aid. Im sorry but that is all that is, vaccines are nothing more then Bs in my eyes, i dont think mother nature is flawed in her design at all. I think peoples thinking if flawed and we give no appreciation for what our bodies are capable of doing.

Getting a vaccine is the easy lazy way of TRYING to protect yourself, just like how everyone wants a pill that will make them slim, instead of exercise and eating right, go figure we would want a single shot that will ward off all danger LOL so silly .....

Plus saying they did tests on preg ladies is not ethical at all and should never be in practise.. as to why any woman with half a brain would put her unborn child at risk for some stupid vaccine, is beyond me !
