So in a recent poll,

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20091103/lf_afp/migrationusafricaasiaeurope_20091103190030

the USA would be the favored destination of others worldwide to imigrate to if they had the chance, by a margin of almost 4 times as many as the next nearest countries!. If they had the chance, 165 million people worldwide would want to imigrate to the USA, and then 45 million would like to go to each Britain, Canada or France.

Does this beg the question, - so even as screwed-up as we ourselves think things might be here, yet, Is there really still any better place to be??

Are you proud of the USA? Or, would you rather be someplace else?

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Some 700 million people worldwide, or more than all the adults of North and South America combined, think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence and want to permanently move to another country, a poll showed Tuesday.

Residents of sub-Saharan African countries were the most likely to want to move abroad permanently, the polls conducted in 135 countries between 2007 and this year by Gallup showed.

On average, 38 percent of the adult population in sub-Saharan Africa, or around 165 million people, said they would up stakes and head for another country if they had the chance.

The most popular destination was the United States, where nearly a quarter of the 700 million -- around 165 million people -- said they would like to settle.

In joint second were Britain, Canada and France, each being named as the preferred destination of around 45 million people.

Thirty-five million said they would go to Spain, 30 million to Saudi Arabia, and 25 million each to Australia or Germany.

The least likely to want to emigrate were Asians -- only one in 10 Asian adults said they would move to another country.

Nearly 260,000 people aged 15 years and older were surveyed, either by phone or face-to-face, for the poll, which has a margin of error of around five percent.

I am proud to be an American and even more grateful that its a country that allows me to travel where I want, when I want. But I am already an American via family from the 1500's . But I do LOVE Greece, France, Switzerland and Scotland as second homes.

I HATE this country for all its racism, homophobia, capitalist greed, oppression of women, and gun-totin' redneck stupidity. For starters. Amerikans are like the dumbest people in the world. And the fattest. Add to that all the warmongering against everyone in the world who's not a bright-white christian, and Amerika's a real prize, right? The land of the greed, and the home of the slave.

You don't look so high and mighty now, do you, Amerika, with righteous Muslim brothers giving your mercenaries a tail-whipping. You should know about false pride from the christian bible you want to make everyone live by, but I guess you're too stupid to figure it out. Don't look now, but it's not 1945 any more, with you free to murder millions of innocent Japanese civilians with nukes. And how many hundreds of thousands more did you exterminate in your concentration camps, so you could steal their land?

Bussh murdered half a MILLION innocent Iraqi women and children by purposely bombing them. We had all those accurate smart bombs they fool the public with (not hard to do!) but they used to old WWII kind to save money so they could pocket even more. Just plaster whole cities, residential areas and all. Now Amerika's stormtroopers are murdering as many innocent Muslims in Afghanistan as they can find, all for oil and money. Jeremiah Wright said it best--Amerika, your chickens have come home to ROOST!

If all those lame Archie Bunkers weren't so addicted to talk radio, they'd know that 9/11 was an inside job to help Israel. NO PLANES--get it, people?? It would help if the world tried Bussh and Chainy for their torture and war crimes, but don't hold your breath. I've seriously thought about a move to a civilized country like Sweden or Canada. But why should I have to move? I'd rather stay here and help pull your stinking, Ozzie and Harriet, whitebread, fascist Amerikkka down around your fat heads. All those old dudes in powdered wigs you worship are so like *yesterday.* And who cares about a stupid outdated constitution anyway? It's in the way, so to he!! with what it says.

Every country has it's good and bad points. There is no perfect nirvana.

I do dislike where I live in Los Angeles that the bad element has spread out more (gangs, crime). The bad elements were more confined before to smaller areas. The traffic is just awful. Great weather though.

I love my country as I love myself. I am always working to improve myself and work to improve my country too. When I see defects in myself I am self-honest about them ... and I am self-honest about the defects in my country too.

Torrance is a great place to live. If I were from sub-saharan africa I might want to move here, too. However, the vast majority of my students who originated in Africa actually migrated to the countries in the EU which other polls have shown are healthier places than the current state of my country.

ps. check out the sample size problem: "Nearly 260,000 people aged 15 years and older were surveyed," "135 countries" Sub-saharan Africa is 10% of the world population ... too small a sample size to be truly representative of the population as a whole. Gallup should know better.

That's not necessarily true. There are statistical techniques--the t-test, for example--designed for much smaller samples than this one. There's a lot more to making an accurate prediction about a whole population than just sample size.

CNC there is much wrong with your analysis.

Match already covered sample size, sample sizes of 30 can work if they are truly random (not suggesting this just to make my point).

Here is an ugly truth. remove blacks from samples of health, crime, education, almost anything and the USA immediately leads the world in every (positive) category. That doesn't mean we don't have the problem, it means the solutions should address that problem. No one knows why blacks independent of education, social strata, financial status, etc. die more often at birth, or fail in educational achievement, or commit more crime.

That would be like saying "France leads the western world in honor killings of their daughters" as if something about French society is ill when in fact France has more Muslims, and a more open immigration policy of Muslims (a good thing? depends upon whether you are going to declare them a sick society or not).

I do not feel the need to change my health care, gun ownership, or dummy up my schools, because a single factor is the locus of the problem but we can't say it out loud.

WildSocal read Dr. John Lott's definitive book on the subject, "More Guns' Less crime". Free your mind from the tyranny and darkness of ignorance and walk free in the silent warm breezes of a free land and rest assured in the knowledge not everyone is thinking of climbing up on the local clocktower mauser 7.62 in hand rather than face their inner fascist.

The fact we're not supposed to should wake people up to the authoritarian, anti-democratic nature of the "political correctness" movement. Not surprisingly, it was started by Communists, and from the beginning its purpose has been to silence dissenters. So far, the Supreme Court has upheld 1st Am. freedom of speech pretty well against PC gestapo tactics on public campuses.

When I lived in Phoenix, it took me a little while to get used to walking into a shop or supermarket and seeing someone with a holstered revolver. But after watching and talking with a few of them, I found out they were just normal, friendly people who were concerned about protecting themselves from violent criminals. Why should a single black woman in D.C., for example, have had to live in fear all these years because she couldn't legally own a gun to protect herself and her kids if necessary, even in a neighborhood full of armed, vicious criminals?

I admit some people--maybe with a paranoid streak--get pretty weird about arming themselves. But I think that's a small minority of gun owners. Sometimes it seems foolish not to at least have a gun available, for instance when you go places where the nearest police are hours away.

I freed my mind when I went and lived in a gun free society. I put my big girl pants on and formed my own opinion all by my self. I don't need to read anyon elses opinion to be a free thinker.

Thanks though.

I am proud to be a conservative American. Outside of those pesky "Blue" states, it is relatively free. BTW, whoever came up with that Red State, Blur State business had dyslexia, it should be the other way around.

It reminds me of the story about Ben Franklin.

"What kind of government have you given us, Dr. Franklin?" asked the neighbor woman.

"A Republic, Madam," responded Franklin, "if you can keep it."

The question now is can we keep whats left of it

It seems to me that the more gun control legislation we pass, the bigger a black market we create. A ordinary citizens do not shop in the black market, but criminals do. So, when private citizens are no longer able to arm themselves, who is going to have the most potential to do harm to society? The more we have controlled guns, the bigger the problem has become.

If every adult citizen were armed, we would not have crazies shooting up banks, schools and malls because they would know they are outgunned. And anyone who did try something stupid would be shot dead on the spot.

Do you trust a government that doesn't trust you with guns?
"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!" -Adolf Hitler,1935
Think about it: Stalin, Mao and Hitler All Favored Gun Control

If guns cause crime, matches cause arson!

You need to experience more of the world. Check out societies where guns are not readily available to anyone. Then and only then will you realize why civilized people call us gun toting loonies.

That is stupid, wrong, racist and unsubstantiated. Since 1976, the life expectancy of black women in America has been higher than that for white men in America. Yes, white people in America live longer than black people in America, but that difference is SMALLER than the difference between men and women.

Further, black people usually live longer than white people of similar socioeconomic backgrounds; the low life expectancy of black men in America is due to higher crime rates in poor neighborhoods and infant mortality. Statistics show that a black man over 50 on average will outlive a white man of the same age.

I suppose next you'll be telling us the crime rate among American blacks is no higher than among whites, also. Oh, how lucky we stupid racists are to have a schoolteacher--and one who knows practically everything--to correct us.

BTW--you don't need to tell us what you think of America.
