Okay, just saw the new version of V...the show about lizard aliens, not the guy in the Guy Fawlkes mask.

This is yet another attempt by some entertainment "genius" to bring back some series from the '70s in a new and repackaged format. They had considerable success with Battlestar Galactica. Failed miserably with Bionic Woman.

Can someone please tell 'em to stop!?

I still remember Jane Badler 'The mouse-eater' from the original series, wickedly sexy!

I watched it too tonight. I dunno, I'll watch the next couple episodes and see how it captures me. Interesting idea, but i'm not sure if I'll get hooked. The last sci-fi i got hooked on was battlestar. The current big network tries at sci-fi seem to be feeble attempts often. Like that flashforward lost/bored me after episode 2.

How dare you sir! This is probably the greatest tv mini-series of the 80's after Stephen Kings 'Salem's Lot" and the "Who shot Jr" cliffhanger of Dallas.

I liked the original mini series, campy but fun, not sure about the new series, will have to watch a few episodes first. Battlestar had some great writing, but was also allowed to be more sexy and gritty, not sure this will happen on a regular entertainment station.

From what I've read of the new series, it's all good. It might wake some people up to what's going on around them...minus the aliens.

Hollywood is dead !
Both movies and TV.

Nobody wants to do anything original anymore. They just copy and paste whatever worked in the past and hope to hit a jackpot.

I remember watching the original (when I could).
I saw last nights episode, and thought it was very well done. Perhaps a bit complicated, but not nearly as much as some of the shows out there. They tied a few ideas together and left a lot of questions, making me want to watch the next one.
Updating old shows is a tried and true method. It works. Everything from "The Fast and the Furious" (an updated version from an old show....nothing new there huh?) to "V" to "Battlestar"...whatever.
I'm glad it is on network TV so I can watch it! Not on some specialty channel!

The whole idea of "new" is very difficult to come up with. A lot of stuff has been done! Updating it is almost as hard a job! Almost any "new" show or movie can be (and is) compared to some forerunner of it. Try thinking up an idea yourself, and I am sure you or someone else could show where that idea has already been done.
I did see one about death...as in a group of people (dead) who become the incarnations of death...assigned their targets in a restaurant that they frequented, etc. Rather humourous, and it had its points. (Main character got killed by a toilet seat from a falling space station! lol!) I've heard of books with somewhat the same theme, but never done quite that way.
More and more modern problems are shown as entertainment. Anyone remember the old movie "Mr. Mom"? It made quite a social statement at that time. But, it fit in with the times too. It was simply a broadened format of a situation that had been done before too.
I liked some of the ideas they used on V. This should be a pretty interesting show. That was quite the big screen TV huh? Almost as if we already have that kind of technology...perhaps we do.....

C'mon OP, you knew when they started the remake trend, Hollywood was dead!

Having said that, I think some of the remakes were good, especially on the SciFi side. Battlestar Galactica was better than the original and I'm hoping that the "Prisoner" (remake of the 60's show) looks good, cause it's appealing.

I think that there is some great TV out there, but I find it on Cable. I am a huge fan of "True Blood" and "Entourage". I like "Mad Men" (cause it's about the industry I'm in) and just started watching golden oldie (okay not that old) "Deadwood".

But now they're coming out with an A-Team movie.....that's holiness that one should not touch! It's bad enough what they did to Knight Rider....

The remakes of these shows aren't really aimed at people who watched the original. They're aimed at the younger generations who never saw the original and wouldn't be moved to watch it because 70s SFX can't compare to current technology.

I remember watching V and loving it. When the new V was advertised I decided to uncover the old episodes and whilst it was great and I still very much enjoyed them I couldn't help but think how dated it looked.

Now I do not, for one minute, think remaking these shows is an altruistic attempt to bring past arts to a new generation. It is motivated by money, of course, but I don't begrudge a new generation catching the V bug like we did when we were kids.

I grew up watching these shows. I remember "V the series" and the "Final battle" and such. It was this series that started my interest in Sci-fi. I work nights so I couldn't catch the new show that was on last night? I wonder if there is a site where I can catch it online?

I think BSG had an easier time "modernizing" because there wasn't so much cognitive dissonance involved. Without Patrick McNee and his "There are those who believe life here began...OUT THERE!" it was simply a case of suspend disbelief and move on. With solid writing and characters with actual depth, it worked. And it worked a bit as a morality play.

But the original V went from one bad premise to another, culminating in the "human/lizard hybrid." Please!

Even now...so let me get this straight. Aliens arrive to restock supplies, say hi and move on? Um...if they want water, there's tons of it in the solar system. If they want minerals, ditto.

At least they didn't do the "We come from the star you call 'Sirius.'" Okay, I'm done sounding like that nerd in high school.

A few years back, can't remember when, I watched show about things in the water and a boy who had one, called him Nimrod, and then it was cancelled. Also watch a show where things in the water took people into the water and they became like the pod people...it was cancelled. Now I'll never know what was going to happen. So, I don't trust V if it becomes big I'll rent the first season.

It starts tonight on Irish TV (assuming its the same programme which I think it is). I will watch it - loved the original one so looking forward to seeing a more modern version.

I loved the original - even bought and read the BOOKS for Gods sake...the new one was pretty good, watched it with my son who really enjoyed it...

I am very funny about TV - usually don't start a show until it's "established" because - they ALWAYS cancel everything I like!!! American Gothic, Jericho, now this year (already) Trauma.

The original was better - they are rushing this one too much. I especially loved how they introduced the martin character - "oh yeah - by the way - I'm an alien - Cya".

But lets see if the writers get better or not.....

P.S - I hope there's not an elizabeth plot line involved......that was pretty bad last time.

I'm hoping to see some new plot lines. Who knows?
At least they didn't draw it out the way they did last time. Always something going on. Guess this reflects todays society of instant gratification....want what they want when they want it and no screwing around.

Hollywood is bordering on full out disgusting me. Really.

So many "old is new" concepts/reboots/resurrections happening makes me believe that Hollywood really has run outta fresh ideas.

I liked the old V series. A lot. It was a staple to me when it hit the air. Campy and corny as all Hell, but it was playful and imaginative for its time. Kinda like the original BG. I couldn't and wouldn't wrap my head around the "new" BG because they feminized it WAY too much. Main characters being cast as women?! Starbuck a chick?

Lost me as a viewer right there. Didn't even watch one episode.

This "new" V...just repackaged garbage with a bunch of B-Listers and no names that will stand to ruin the magic of the original. There's too much movement for "old is new again" these days, and it really needs to stop. I liked it so much better when a station had a groundbreaking series and it was the be-all-end-all for its time. There were no knockoffs or "trendy followers".

I take a look at TV now, and see repackaged crap, and trendy knockoffs of each other on almost every station (think: how many Vampire series do we really need anyways??).

Somewhere along the way, imagination was replaced with capitalism and ad revenue. They need to go back to grass roots if they expect anyone to give a crap.

And quit ruining classics. What's next, a remake of Ben-Hur?

Hollywood has always thrived on remakes, it's not a new thing.
Plenty of famous old movies are second or even third time go 'rounds of the same material. Sometimes even the same director would remake one of his earlier films.
It's always been a money game and the tried and true usually won out over the new and experimental.

IMHO the original V was dull as dirt... looked tired when it first hit the airwaves.
I most likely won't be watching this new one but I can't see that it has much of a challenge in besting its predecessor.

It's 8:38 pt, i got up to get a cup of oj at 8:30 then walked in here and sat down. I can hear it on the tv, but i had no problem walking away, no urge to finish the last half hour.

it has a bit of a battlestar feel to it. Theres the arrogant guy: reporter-gaius, the guy who knows hes one of them but hes a good guy: big black guy-mechanic guy. They don't know whop might be one of "them", be suspicious.
The reporter guy too, is he the same guy who played lee Adama?

I don't think the reporter guy is the one who played "Lee Adama". Then again...the reporter guy seems to be a bit of a far fetched character anyways! More concerned about his integrity than the number of viewers he's attracted? Total BS. Unbelievable!
Some of the faces look almost "plastic" though...too much make-up? An intentional thing to make the V's stand out? Not sure. (bad colour on the tv? Jeeze...with my luck that's it!)
