| New To This, Need Some Input

This is my first try at at the online dating scene. I completed my profile about a week or so ago, and have noticed that I've recieved a LOT of views. Unfortunately, not too many messages.
I'm wondering if it's my profile, or is it just typical that women don't contact the guys here. I've sent a limited number of messages to women that I'm interested in, and of course it's hit and miss with the responses.
So please take a look at my profile and give me any advice you may have. Please dish out the bad with the good, I can take it! I really am here to meet someone to date, possibly long term, so I want to get this right.

You're cute - you need a closer smiling full face head/shoulders shot to show that off.
Put in your damn occupation. Be as vague as you like (Manager, Admin, Finance, Tradesman, Consultant, Technician, Warehouseman, Cowboy, Call Centre, whatever) but the answer you have now will irritate your viewer. This just looks like you assume the women viewing you are gold-diggers.
The profile body itself, although sincere I'm sure, is loaded with cliches. Easy going & down to Earth; work hard/play harder, and a few more really need to be replaced with examples. I like the line you have about "I'm the guy that .... 20 friends...." - that's a great description. We don't know if you work hard - you didn't tell us what you do (ahem!)
You may get some static about the 'rock god' image at your age. As long as you can balance that with some 'grownup' stuff, it could be fun.
Quit smoking.
Add more to your Interests field. For example, instead of the generic "Music", put: Guitar, Blues Rock, Black Keys. Instead of the generic "Sports", put either Wings, or Hockey.
You have a beer in your main photo, describe having a drink on your first date, yet you have your email age settings below the legal drinking limit. And you're 30. Ew.
Either raise that to at least 21 or delete the age settings entirely. If you select "Any" from the drop down menu on the younger age and leave the upper setting, it will read as "Under (whatever) age". | |

Posted: 11/3/2009 11:07:35 PM | Thanks for the input!!! By no means am I a "Rock God", I never meant it to come across that way. I'll go back and edit out the cliches. I guess I really didn't notice them when I was typing that up. Upon reading it again, your absolutely right.
The smoking thing, yeah I get it. I do need to quit, however I haven't so I'm being honest.
As far as the email settings, I wasn't even aware of them! Thanks for pointing that out, it's something that I never noticed. | |

...is it just typical that women don't contact the guys here. Yes, it's typical that women in your age group don't make initial contact. Because of the demographics here (far more men in your age group than women), the women get lots of messages and can be very selective about the ones they respond to.
I've sent a limited number of messages to women that I'm interested in, and of course it's hit and miss with the responses. Men with good profiles report about 10% response rate here. The best thing to do is once you send off a message, just forget about it. If you do get a response, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Did you notice that 'The Black Keys' comes up in blue in our profile? If you click on it, the system will show you other users with the same word in their Interests field. Try it!
