| Are we becoming Androgynous? Posted: 11/4/2009 5:28:02 AM | Androgynous - having both female and male characteristics and being neither distinguishably masculine nor feminine as in dress appearance or behaviour.
Are men becoming more feminine or are women becoming more like men? Physically women are becoming as strong as men if we look at today’s female tennis players and women in many other sports, but the change over the years is far more obvious in attitudes and behaviour. Things we see today that were seldom seen or heard of 20 years ago such as violent girl gang’s, women drunk in the street, attitudes towards sex etc. There was a time not so very long ago when certain behaviour was looked upon as being ‘unladylike’ and would be frowned upon but nowadays it seems anything go’s and women seem to be trying to outdo men in what some might call ‘outrageous behaviour’!
Watching period dramas written in the 18th century really brings home the difference in attitudes and how far things have changed.
Is this a good thing, do men really want women to behave more like men, and do women really want to behave and be treated like men?

| Are we becoming Androgynous? Posted: 11/4/2009 5:46:20 AM | huh?
Women do not have the muscle strength of real men. For example I can bench 120KG on the bar and only a few women world-wide could match it.
The types of men you are talking about that women can match or exceed in strength are the wet males that infest this country's cities and towns.
Girl gangs came about because many things disappeared, such as good parenting and proper policing. A firm hand with a rowdy girl does her a lot of good.

| Are we becoming Androgynous? Posted: 11/4/2009 6:43:14 AM | Is it androgyny or equality? The idyll of the period drama often misses out the bits about women being unable to vote, have property, be sexually liberated, get an education and live an independent life. The fact that women are only now behaving like men is a result of us only recently being free to do so.
A firm hand with a rowdy girl does her a lot of good.
Are you implying that the same cannot be said for their male counterparts? The binge drinking culture is a cross-gender issue.

| Are we becoming Androgynous? Posted: 11/4/2009 9:02:32 AM | @ msg 2 - my lil sister at 17 could bench that easy! lol. And no she wasnt a muscle bound freak. Sheer muscle strength determines little than the weight you can shift, and only that. Don't under/over estimate someone just becasue of that. My other, younger sister could punch a (13 stone) guy clean across the room - she couldnt bench that.
OP - evolve or die. Be who you are, not who think others think you should be.

No I don't want to behave and be treated like a man, I'm a Laaaaaayydee and I like Laaaaaayydees things, just because I can do all my own DIY including laying carpets, drink pints, fart and burp doesn't make me any less of one either.
I think the stereotypical roles of men and women are changing though and that can only be a good thing.

Maybe if there were some Real men still around, women would not be taking on their attributes ..
Women unfortunately due to circumstances have had to learn what were once the man's skills in the house, so it is only natural that they are also going to start taking on his social skills..
If you can call them that !
Just a thought ..

| Are we becoming Androgynous? Posted: 11/4/2009 12:30:56 PM | A real man is strong A real man doesn't cry, doesn't moan, doesn't complain, doesn't get sick, and doesn't need to go to the doctor every time he sneezes. A real man makes decisions and lives with the consequences. A real man accepts responsibility for his actions and his words. A real man is firm. If life is a b*tch, a real man will slap it and move on. A real man is macho; a real man is tough; a real man doesn't show emotions. A real man is the backbone of his family and doesn't have time to be weak. If spiders scare you, you'll never be a real man. A real man is focused A real man knows the difference between what's important and what isn't. A real man doesn't waste time on stupidities that don't bring him any profit. Sure, there are things you can do as a hobby -- I like to shoot ducks -- but it must have a purpose. A real man focuses on power, money and family. He doesn't focus on sex. Sex comes as a result of having power, money and a wife. A real man knows the importance of family A real man will keep his family strong and pass on his ancestors' history and traditions. A real man knows that his children are God's gift and should be treated as such, even if he disciplines them from time to time. A real man doesn't gossip A real man keeps his mouth shut. He shelters information and rations his words. A real man does not reveal more than he has to and doesn't engage in girlie talk about others. A real man doesn't discuss things he doesn't know about or people he has never met. A real man's word is his bond When a real man makes a promise, he keeps it. If he can't keep a promise, he doesn't give his word. A real man would rather die than break his word. A real man knows that his words are as powerful as his actions, and that they must be taken at face value. That is why he rations them (see above). A real man strives to be a role model A real man respects himself and others at all times, unless, of course, he has been disrespected. A real man sets an example for his disciples, and especially for his children. A real man sets the tone for his children and keeps them from discovering that he has weaknesses. A real man makes his own fortune A real man doesn't settle for handouts or charity when it comes to his personal fortune. A real man isn't satisfied with papa's money. He spits on Lady Luck and decides his own destiny. A real man who inherits goods from his forefathers takes his inheritance and turns it into 10 times what it was.
Ooop nearly forgot..
A real man has a sense of humour..

Women may not act as demure and lady like as they do in period drama's but then again the men nowdays are not all limp wristed fops with flowing locks and frilly shirts either...........well unless you discount Laurence Llewellyn Bowen of course

edit, hence the phrase you reap what you sow

Is this a good thing, do men really want women to behave more like men, and do women really want to behave and be treated like men? Its probably a good thing for Wayne seeking his Waynetta and vice versa !!
Call me greedy but I prefer a woman who is very feminine but also knows how to get down and get dirty when the need arises.

Women's fault for taking equality too far? I think you're overlooking the fact that men gave us reason to fight back in the first place. It's the 21st century, I own my own home, run my own business, have been educated, can hold political views - and stand for parliament if I so please (although God knows why anyone would want to do that!). I can go into a bar - on my own - and not automatically be thought to be a whore, I can stand my round and pay my way, which men expect - but still complain that we don't act like 'ladies'.
Do men actually want us to be dependant upon them?
