So who voted in favor, and who isn't happy the bill passed? I voted against it but wasn't surprised it won this time around. The only argument I really think works in its favor is the desire to keep Ohio money in Ohio, but I'm not sold on whether that will be the case. Furthermore, I sincerely doubt Toledo will ever see a casino, but I'm positive Cleveland will. I don't think one of the nation's worst economies needs another excuse for local money to be flushed down the drain.

With respect, my opinion is why not? The 4 states surrounding us have it. I am not personally a gambler, but I do know how it helped the poorest city (back when) in Tupelo (Elvis home town) when I lived in W Memphis Ark, they just didn't get it that people drove right thru our town (state) to get there, when they could have stopped the traffic 4 themselves!
Many people may not want 2 say how they voted 4 issues, but can still make comments.

I voted for it. I looked at it this way, Cleveland is enough of a sh!thole that if the Casino makes things worse, no one will notice. The jobs created outweigh any negative in my book.

As much as I dislike the seediness of casinos in places like Reno and Lake Tahoe...and Las Vegas is so garish it's a freak show unto itself, I've seen that the boats on the river and even Wheeling Island casino are sad places to spend even a few hours in. I mean, heck, I make good money, and yet I'm appalled at the money that obviously impoverished people will depart with at these venues.

Casinos aren't about glitz and glamour...simply put, Gambling is a tax on the stupid.

OK...so Ohio gets a billion per year in taxes and 34,000 people will be paying taxes here as well. I suppose if I want to separate myself from a few hundred bucks that this more entertaining than setting it on fire or buying lottery tix...but pretty much just as certain.

But wait for the big one, folks...in order to fund all these public programs that the dems are putting in place...the last bastion of tax revenue is (DRUM ROLL please, maestro)...pot. Just wait...the O-administration is only whispering about it now because they're running out of revenue sources.

I'm all for the legalization of pot. As far as I'm concerned, its criminalization is one of the greatest examples of hypocrisy the western world has ever seen. It's America's number one cash crop as it is. Tax it.

I'm from Toledo and I voted for the casinos. I'm for anything that would stimulate some jobs around here. Plus, I think Toledo is one of the best bets for a casino. Reason...Close to the Michigan border where many of the Toledo area gamblers now head. Maybe some of those Michiganders will come to T Town to gamble now?

Toledo is actually getting a casino. They announced it on the news that it will be called "Hollywood Casino" or something like that. They plan on putting it on the east side. It could come as early as 2012. I'm happy about it. I think it will create jobs and boost the economy. I know there are all sorts of arguments about how it will/will not do Toledo good, but I think until it's actually built and in business we won't know whether or not it's done Toledo any good.

Time will tell. Fact is casinos nation wide are not generatingm the revenue once enyoyed as it is all about the economy stupid. Short term the state will have a fre extra construction projects and we will add some moderate paying jobs. in the end you can be sure we will not attract people from other states, we will only attrract folks in Ohio who have no problem giving their money away. Really give the whole idea about 3 years before we have to bail out the Ohio casinos. Its a hsame , Ohio was once a proud state.

The religious right in the United sates is alive and well. It will be sometime before you see the legalization of pot. Wishful thinking on the part of some. There are also the considerations of the allies of the United states to consider.

The announcement and the site set aside for the casino in Toledo is purely for publicity and nothing more. Now that the bill has passed there's very little incentive to actually commit to the project, and I have serious doubts that we will see one in the next 1o years.

I voted YES for Issue 3, so didn't everyone else I know... ts hgh time we get one, if people don't like casino's, DON'T GO TO ONE! The state didn't like it because they have had a onooly on gambling in the state which will lose a little to the casino's now.

Just like 32 states are considering legalizing pot, not ohio.. Just think of the taxes they can make for that alone!

I also voted NO on all the tax levies.. Not that they weren't for good causes, its just the economy has also gotten me down, why should I give more? When the state needs more money their cash cow is us but when I need more money, where is that gonna come from? The state isn't going to say "Poor Dennis, to help you out her is a tax break till your back on your feet"..

As for the Toledo casino, they just might build one, there isn't any rules on what size or how glamorous has to be right? I've been to the Detroit casino's, didn't like them too much..

If Argosy was closer, I'd go there more often. I love sitting down for an evening playing a $60 poker tourney, have a few drinks, enjoy a good meal and head home. But not drive for 2.5 hours home!

Perhaps the real issue is not gambling or taxing pot. The real issue is where will this income originate that will generate wealth via gambling and taxing pot. Face it..people do not have money. How can we generate wealth when there is no wealth to begin the process og generating wealth?

What is so disturbing about the pot issue is that it is even against the law to cultivate hemp in the United States. If you've ever done any reading on hemp, you'll know that hemp is so environmentally better than cotton even and have some really wonderful characteristics in all the products that can be made from hemp. Yet because of the cotton industry, it has been impossible to overturn that legislation so far. Maybe we'll wake up someday and get that changed.

Would legalizing pot help at all? Although I'm not totally familiar with the parameters of it, but Mexico has legalized pot. Will this put the cartels out of business? Will it relieve the prison system somewhat by getting rid of the users? Will it generate a lot of useful tax money for needed services? Time will tell.

Ohio is usually passive when it come to making any kind of move to help the economy. They were still trying to revive the steel mills 20 years after Pittsburgh decided to move on. Technology would have been nice, Ohio, but those jobs grew in the western states because we were just to slow to act on them here. The next latest greatest is alternative energies and I am sure we will be on the pot grunting and thinking about it until that ship passes us by. Use our tax money to build up the state and bring in good jobs intead of continuing to be the smelly armpit of the nation where minimum wage jobs reign supreme and NJ dumps it garbage! I was offered a job making $9.00 and hour fixing slot machines at a West Virginia institution not that long ago so don't tell me about the good paying jobs these guys are offering. A little bit of fun is all you are going to get from them. I don't really care because I don't gamble. Pay attention as they suck the remainder of the money out of the local economy.

Perhaps Ohio will prosper from gambling. Fact is Ohio is entering the bussiness as the Gaming industry has begun to make less money in other states. The real question is how to generate more money from exporting services and goods from Ohio to other locations bringing real money into the state of Ohio . Only time will tell?
