| 21-post limit on some forums Posted: 11/5/2009 10:42:13 AM | | As you know, there is a 21-post limit on some forums. It can be frustrating to compose a message in response to a poster and then find it won't be posted as other posters had filled the last few posts. When we try to post to the forum and it has reached the limit, could we at that point have an option to send it directly to the poster? It would be less frustrating. I know we could cut and paste and send it, if we haven't lost the message, but it would be easier to have an automated option. I'm aware it couldn't be done with OPs who have message restrictions but that could be indicated at the time. | |

| 21-post limit on some forums Posted: 11/5/2009 11:40:45 AM | I agree but here is what I do to get around the problem. When there are free slots available make a real short VALID length message and post it. Unless your profile has been added to with restrictions you only need maybe four decent words just to get it saved. Then edit your post to fill it out completely.
The problem is when those last few slots are getting taken you don't know if it is valid until you hit send. Some threads fill so fast it can get several posts in seconds.
So ten people can all be typing posts to fill that last post opening in a thread. All would be valid when you started to type your response. First to send gets that last spot.

| 21-post limit on some forums Posted: 11/6/2009 10:40:43 AM | | I'm curious about the logic behind having such a limit. This limit is reached very quickly and allows for very little discussion on the topic. | |

| 21-post limit on some forums Posted: 11/6/2009 10:42:56 AM | | The 21 post limit is only under the AAGirl, and AAGuy forums as far as I know. Frankly, I like the 21 post limit. That's only we need under those forums. | |

...I'm curious about the logic behind having such a limit... Because it is easier to stop a train wreck when you limit how far the train can travel.
This limit is reached very quickly and allows for very little discussion on the topic. Topics like: Does He/She like me? How do I get a date? Do I look fat in this? My Co-worker is hot, what should I do?

The same could be said about every forum here.
Topics like: Does He/She like me? How do I get a date? Do I look fat in this? My Co-worker is hot, what should I do?
We get inane threads like these on every forum. What makes the AAG forums special?

What makes the AAG forums special
Because they were far worse. Generally the post is answered after 20 replies, assuming not many of the replies are being wasted. We try and watch those posters that waste replies in those threads and add nothing to the subject.
It is advised at the top of that forum section the questions there are capped and if that is not satisfactory to post in another section. Either gender can answer in either Ask A section and there is really little reason to post in that section usually anyway. Newbies tend to run there and many posts are attention seeking. Those two forums also do not use community vote to delete threads so they require far more moderator cleanup.

| 21-post limit on some forums Posted: 11/7/2009 1:01:46 PM | Ah, clever idea, Cowboy, now why didn't I think of that? It's not so much that I think I have anything particularly special to say, just frustrating to have spent time thinking and typing to have it go to waste.
I do think that sometimes people post some of the same repetitive topics, e.g. "why are women ignoring me?", because they don't realise that their post is a variation on this same theme. If you frequent the forums, you start to spot the different manifestations but it's not always obvious to new people.
