| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 1:52:46 PM | So I went and got my hair cut today, and me and the woman who did it really seemed to hit it off. We talked the entire time she cut my hair, and I had hear rolling with laughter a couple of times and there was a ton of great eye contact.
Now I'm not dumb, I can tell when someone is just being nice to me and when there is an actual spark there. This was definitely the latter. I was trying to think of how to ask her out, but I couldn't figure out how best to do it. It was very busy, there were other customers in the salon, and I didn't want to do it in front of everyone, and I'm not sure what the etiquette is of asking a woman out while she is working. On top of that I'm not even sure if she is single, so I ended up not asking. How could I have better went about this? Any advice how I can still get her number?

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 2:07:17 PM | | I'm thinking if she were interested, she probably would have given you her card...but let's say you both dropped the ball. You can always call the salon and ask for her. | |

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 2:11:35 PM | OP - Not sayin that you're assumption is off the mark but also keep in mind that hairdressers more often than not have these ppl skills -- its part of what they do. Happy customer = higher tip.
As to how to ask her out/getting her number: Maybe you can try to the indirect approach, "So I bet your family never needs to pay visits to the salons when they have their very own stylist at home huh?" .... This might open a leeway for you to ask more about whether she is married/taken/single without sounding too eager to jump on her. .. Once you find out her marital status perhaps you can move on to asking her number and etc..
G luck ~ | |

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 2:20:33 PM | How about when she says something kinda outrageous....ask "what would your boyfriend say" Seriously, if she really was that interested maybe should would have dropped a few suggestions beyond just being friendly... | |

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 2:24:41 PM | LOL, I'm an idiot. She did give me her card, I just assumed it was a business card for the business and had an office number on it. Now that I actually looked at it, it is her business card, with office number and her cell number on it. Maybe I should look at things before I post questions.
Thanks though. | |

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 2:43:23 PM | | Just a heads up....Hair Dressers are usually the most outgoing as far as conversing with their clients..as a whole....i have to stop talking to mine...as he is cutting...for fear he will keep chatting and cut too much....she would have mentioned something to you if she was interested..... | |

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 3:00:29 PM | Now I'm not dumb, I can tell when someone is just being nice to me and when there is an actual spark there. This was definitely the latter. I almost ejected a mouthful of ice cold Guinness Draft through my nose when I read that.
I was trying to think of how to ask her out, but I couldn't figure out how best to do it. I doesn't matter how you do it because you're gonna get shot down, partner. Sorry. Hair stylists are grand masters at making chatter that is loaded with "chemistry." The best. But you go ahead and try, grasshopper. And please, please report back to us.
I'm not sure what the etiquette is of asking a woman out while she is working. The etiquette is that you don't. Very bad form.
Any advice how I can still get her number? Apparently you already have her number, on the business card. Now, the fact that she has her cell number on her business card means that she doesn't care who calls her cell phone. Think about it. But you go ahead and call her, anyway.
So the question shifts to how you ask her out: Put your request in a bottle and throw it in a lake, because the reply will be the same no matter what you do. The message-in-a-bottle method will be much less embarrassing, however. I'm predicting a response something along the lines of "awwww, that's sweet, hun, but I don't date my clients. But I'll be glad to pencil you in for a trim in three weeks... Very well then, m'kay, bye, sugar." (click) Or perhaps she'll tell you about the wild vacation she and her boyfriend took to Aruba this summer. Etc.
And remember, please report back.
The very best of luck to you.

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 3:29:17 PM | | Be careful... be sly about it... but yeah, she gave you her cell number... call it! Good luck! | |

she made sure her boobs brushed against him at least a few times..
I had my hair cut by the same gal for a LONG time.. I would go out of my way to make certain she was there and would get it cut more often... when she shampooed your hair she knew how to keep you entertained if you know what I mean....
I'll bet she made a lot in tips

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 3:48:55 PM | | Agree with the above. Call her at 9pm. Tell her you found a gray hair and need a house call asap. | |

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 4:52:06 PM | Cell Number, A lot of the Cosmo.. give out the cell number for side work, I know a few who have make shift salons in their basement, or for scheduling. All above posters are correct. They are the grand masters of creating false chemistry. make you feel like King Dingaling all for the tip. By all means though, give it a shot, like stated above, please report back and let us know what happens. | |

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 5:11:16 PM | The thing about hairdressers is that they are like bartenders. It is their job to make convo with people, it keeps the customers coming back.
My hairdresser is like a member of the family to me. The last thing that I would do is piss her off so that I come out looking like Moe Howard.
Just saying....... | |
|
| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 5:17:41 PM | She gave you her bussines card...................so you would make sure to book with her again.
She is in a customer service oriented job.............you are a Customer, as in someone who Pays and, most importantly, TIPS, for a service.
If she wanted you to call her directly , she would have said something.
I bet you think strippers like you too?
|
| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 5:18:01 PM | | I bartend and let me tell you. I am nice to everyone even when they are morons. it is part of the job, like cutting hair. You need to be nice. You need to get to know clients and overall it is a job for the social and outgoing. If she was that interested she probably would have said to call her or made it clear. My hairdresser has her cell number on her card and she told me it is because she travels for work. it is not a dating deal. I doubt it was the "latter". | |
|
| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 5:32:15 PM | I agree with a lot of posters here. She is in service, people in service have to be nice especially if they rely on tips for a living or repeat customers. Success in her job is dependent on both.
Hairdressers can often put their cell number on their card because they may either rent a chair at a salon or be hired with a salon. If you don't get your hair cut very often, next time you go back they may not be at that particular place. So you need to call their personal number to find them if you like the job they did.

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 5:34:40 PM | I love this story. Years ago I used to go to an Italian barber, I remember him rubbing something hard against my shoulder. Of course, I was young and naive and couldn't imagine what it was. | |

| Asking out a cosmetologist? Posted: 11/5/2009 6:54:46 PM | | I am sure you felt something, most hair stylist are good at making you feel right at home. I had a crush on my stylist, thing is she is a great cutter. And yes she does the body rubbing stuff, but she knows me by name cause I have been going to her for the past 6 years, shes the only one I let cut my hair. Thing is she treats everyone the same, its for tips. I am sure she will be flattered by your call, but I will bet many men get caught up thinking thier the one also. Give it a shot, you have nothing to loose. | |
