| Brainy women are less likely to marry? Posted: 11/6/2009 3:00:19 AM | I saw on the "Wright Stuff" this morning, that research at Bristol University reveals that if a woman's IQ rises by 16%, she is 35% less likely to marry. But if a man's IQ rises by 16%, he is 35% more likely to marry.
Does this mean that clever men are more attractive, and clever women less attractive?
Or is it just that clever women choose not to marry? If that's the case why do clever men seem more likely to get partners? I'm confused, I want a clever bird! Your thoughts please....
|
| Brainy women are less likely to marry? Posted: 11/6/2009 3:05:25 AM | Or could it be the clever women aren't stupid enough to get married?
And the clever men become so successful they need a woman at home to take care of everything else? whereas clever women can multi-task, something men have not got the concept of yet :p

| Brainy women are less likely to marry? Posted: 11/6/2009 3:12:47 AM | Well I am practically a genius and I have never been married so it must be true
I have met some married men though and they were all idiots
The only real solution for an intelligent woman is to find herself a nice little wife, I am looking for one to cook and clean for me while I shag around and scratch my balls.
Clever eh?

| Brainy women are less likely to marry? Posted: 11/6/2009 3:15:32 AM | It dont add up. If a woman is that intelligent she should know that she should marry and take him to the cleaners and get the house but if a man is that intelligent he should know what shes doing and not get married? | |

| Brainy women are less likely to marry? Posted: 11/6/2009 3:18:45 AM | My last relationship was with a very attractitve, extremely intelligent lady, she was a scientist, very clever gal, wanted marriage, the lot, to say that I was in love...well it was like being 20 again! Then the bomb dropped as they say, found some of her ex's were more like current business. Marriage...I look back and think that I had a lucky escape, I have a hunch that It was a ploy to encourage one of them to show his (unavailable) hand. I thank heaven for the day her laptop had a fault that she asked me to look at. I did'nt pry, just opened the most innocently named file in her desktop, and, well you can guess the rest. | |

| Brainy women are less likely to marry? Posted: 11/6/2009 3:22:52 AM | I've been trying to find some reference to this, and have been unable to as yet.
I found this: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Books/story?id=2569852&page=1&page=1
For a generation of SWANS -- Strong Women Achievers, No Spouse -- these myths have become conventional wisdom. If you attended a good school, have an impressive job, have career aspirations or dream of future success, men will find you less attractive. "I've been told by well-meaning relatives: 'Don't talk about work on a date, dumb it down, and it's bad to earn so much money because guys will be scared of you.' And I got the word 'intimidating' a lot," said Alexis, a 35-year-old lawyer in San Francisco.
She's not alone. Nearly half of single women believe their professional success is intimidating to the men they meet. Put another way, many high-achieving women think their success is not helping them find love. Some 66 percent of SWANS disagree with the statement "My career or educational success increases my chances of getting married." SWANS eh? I quite like the sound of that! But it doesn't really help either way to know if this is true. (And it's American!)

| Brainy women are less likely to marry? Posted: 11/6/2009 3:26:08 AM | Clever men are more likely to be successful, i.e. wealthy. Doesn't make them more likely to want to get married, it just makes them more attractive to gold diggers. Unless you believe that it was Paul McCartney's and Bernie Ecclestone's sex appeal that got them their model wives.
Clever women are a threat to stupid men, so stupid men won't want to marry them. The clever men have already been snapped up by the gold diggers. I suppose a clever woman has more of a chance if she can:
A) Meet a man clever enough to not be threatened and to have avoided the gold diggers, or B) Suck a ping pong ball through a garden hose.

| Brainy women are less likely to marry? Posted: 11/6/2009 3:30:34 AM | it sounds like complete rubbish to me .... but there you go.
my theory on the theory being that intelligent men would, in theory, be more successful and attract more women which of course he would take advantage of
the modern, university educated type of clever women would also be more successful and therefore more independant and able to afford to live life on her terms, have a career, choose when she wants to settle down or have a family, or not as the case may be ...
now before you all start to get your danders up and your knickers twisted i'm not saying that women who are married are not clever or that single men are dumb ...

Im sure theres a scientific study somewhere If not ill make one up and wikipedia it :)

Having said that Bernie was married to his "model" wife for 25 yrs or something? and they only divorced in 2008.

I married once to someone VERY brainy but she's been married 4 times so i don't agree that the OP is correct

I agree that this would be the logical conclusion. But assuming that by and large, most of us want the same things, Health, happiness, "success " etc. If clever women are more 'thoughtful' and choosy, why aren't clever men too? The figures go in opposite directions according to this study, a man who is more intelligent, is more likely to get married... a woman less likely (than average). And there could be a number of reasons, perhaps we are less 'similar' than I thought....
|
| |
| Brainy women are less likely to marry? Posted: 11/6/2009 3:59:33 AM | Maybe intelligent women value the fact that they have not always had the same equality and chances that men have had in using their intelligence for careers and see marriage/settling down as a hindrance or step backward? | |

Who pays for these people to research such mundane, and of no use to anyone surveys, I just dont ge it, could these scientists not try looking for cures to diseases, or something more worthwhile.
Simple fact retards get married, average Joe's and Joanna's get married, the wealthy get married, the poor get married, the old get married ,the young get married, and some people dont, nuff said.
What a waste of fooking resources, and money, these Universities should put more effort into researching things that actually benefit the population,

Fair point I think! But don't shoot me I'm not even the messenger, I'm the messenger's messenger.
I'm sitting here trying to raise my IQ by 16%, to improve my chances of a legover!

When they are probably bright enough to make a lasting contribution too society rather than stuff that will be forgotten next week, as the latest pointless study comes out. :)

It's Ok mate! I should have put "lol" after it! I agree! But they're probably all going to be sociologists anyway, so they'll be getting paid to do this stuff for the rest of their careers!
Before I get attacked by sociologists: LOL
| |
|
| Brainy women are less likely to marry? Posted: 11/6/2009 4:24:02 AM | Dont worry about the sociologists before they attack they will have to do all sorts of research, publish a thesis, make up some interesting stats it'll take em ages.
In the meantime you can do some Ninja training in anticipation of there attack.
