Baby loves every food I've given him!!

So for those who have been through the baby food stage-did your little ones continue to love the foods they loved as babies? My son loves everything I have given him-his favorite is broccoli, which I didn't think he'd like but he loves it!! I have never seen him get so excited over a food, lol. Am I naive to think when he gets a little older, he'll still like all these foods I am giving him? I hope not. I like seeing him eat healthy things.

For those who are still in the baby food stage-is it just me or is spinach really hard to find? Do they even make it anymore? I have checked quite a few stores, and only just yesterday found the broccoli, but I have yet to see spinach anywhere. I checked Kroger, Target, Kmart and Walmart. Walmart is where I found the broccoli but no spinach..something wrong with the spinach that they stopped making it or something?

My daughter is now into real food and loves everything I give her. Veggies (especially green ones, ???) are her favorite thing to eat. The only thing she doesnt seem to like is pizza. Which is weird since she likes all the different things, but not when I put them together, if I leave them apart were good to go.

At that age they dont really know if they like something or not. They just open, insert, swallow. As they get older and start feeding themselves they realize they have options. Exposing them to as many different things as possible now though is a good thing to help them like to eat the things later.

My daughter isnt a big fan of chocolate (dont get me wrong, she will eat it but her preferences lay elsewhere) so at Halloween family friends gave her a little bag of Candy Corn. She gets one a day (sometimes 2 if Im being a sucker...lol) and goes NUTS! lol... Im hoping that she keeps her love of candy corn so I can snag the chocolate...lol

Sometimes they do and sometimes they go through picky stages, it just depends. If you are still really doing baby food, they may balk at some things because when they get the real texture of the food, they don't like it.

Just keep your finger's crossed that he does and if not, remember not to stress about every single meal. Over a day or a week they get the nutrients they need when you offer balanced meals. If you have him help you make things as soon as he can start "helping," that will also reduce the likelihood that he balks at certain foods.

I have to disagree with them not knowing if they like something or not. All 4 of mine had their preferences. I tried a little bit of everything with them and if they didn't like it, they let me know. (Usually by covering me with it )

As far as them continuing to like the healthier foods, yes they will. You really need to pay attention and control what you give them at this time. Give baby lots of fruits. Limit the amount of sugar they get. I know parents that have started giving their kids things like sweet tea, soda, and koolaid as soon as they are off the bottle. Don't do that.

We fed them more fruits and veggies than anything else. We kept them to milk and juice, except on special occasions. And to this day they prefer the juice to soda or kool-aid, and fresh fruits to the junk food. We went to my mother-in-law's one day for lunch a while back and there was a bowl with chips and nuts and dip on the table and a bowl of fruit off to the side. My kids asked grandma if they could have the fruit and they didn't touch the chips.

I use to make my own baby food for my kids. It was incredibly easy as after it was processed, I would fill up ice cube trays and freeze the foods then pop them out of the trays and toss them into baggies. For stronger tasting vegetables, I would sometimes mix them with pureed rice or potatoes, to reduce the heavy flavour.

Both of my children eat healthy... my son is more of a meat and potatoes or rice man, but he does take cooked vegetables when they are prepared. He's also a fanatic for raw veggies so I make sure to have it on hand at all times.

I also love the fact that they eat a variety of ethnic dishes... from Greek, to Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Indian... at the very least, they can be counted on to sample a new food to have an informed opinion rather than toss their nose up at something.

I also disagree that they don't show what foods they dislike. My son did not like bananas at first and would spit all of them out and fuss everytime I gave them to him. He warmed up after a few tries and now loves bananas. Aside from bananas, he has loved every food I have given him the first try, and I do make sure he gets a lot of different varieties. Fruits for breakfast, and veggies or meats (sometimes both mixed together) for lunch and dinner...I hope this keeps up and he's not a picky eater as he gets older!!

I have heard of some moms who have babies my son's age giving their babes mashed potatoes-anyone else ever done that for their 6 (almost 7) month old?

I'm surprised how much baby food has changed in the past 10 years. When my nephew was a baby they had all sorts of different varieties. They still do now but they did away with a lot of the flavors..

when i started out my son on potatoes... i started him out on sweet potatoes when he was 5 months ( he had been on rice and oat cereal since he was three months.. and formula/breast milk just wasn't filling enough) now at almost 8 months(in just a few days) he eats almost everything and anything... when he was on strictly puree's i made my own, which i found was cheaper to do then buying baby food which gave him a lot more variety then they have on the shelves.

Yes, but then again my daughter was eating Mac and Cheese at 8 months...but, then again I was one of those mothers that allowed my child to use her fingers to eat at that stage as well (for things like eggs, pototoes, etc) and had friends that were just horrified.

She would never eat butternut squash or peas now and those were her favorites as a baby...Not sure if what they eat as a baby transcends into what they like later on.

When my daughter was little and I started carrots with her.. she would gag on them, covering me in orange slim :(. I tried preparing them every which way I could, even tried the jarred carrots thinking maybe I just wasn't getting them smooth enough.. but the orange shower just kept happening..

Today.. ask her what her favorite veggie is, cooked or raw.. carrots!!!

Be thankful if your child likes something today.. as tomorrow may be a different story!

I rarely ever gave my son pureed baby foods. I mean, hell, have you tasted the stuff? YUCK. =/
His taste seems to be the same as it's always been.

Do you have Albertsons in your area?
I used to get loads of Gerber pureed spinach jars there, when i was a career mom and dint have time for making our own baby food.
Kids definately have preferences. Some are picky some are not, but try to feed a kid something they dont like is futile, and it will end up spat right back at ya.
My son loathes of fish and seafood and will projectile spit it across the room if it goes into his mouth. Hope he gets used to it, we live on a tropical island and if a big storm hits us and were outta electricity we will have to live off fish lobster and shrimp, caught by our own hands.

We don't have an Albertsons. Aren't they called something else, too? I know that name seems familiar, and I know sometimes places like Kroger are called something else in other states..

Ah well. If he never has spinach in his babyhood I'm sure it won't kill him, lol.

Some of the purees are good!! Not so much any of the veggies, but I like the banana kind. They also make a dessert called "Vanilla Custard with Bananas" and that's awesome! They should make something like that for older people. And I like the peach cobbler baby dessert, too, LOl.

My kids absolutely are hooked on spinach.......now....lol.

we call it salad...and it is yummy yummy....mind you they all have teeth and are older now.

you can buy fresh washed and bagged spinach ready to eat....cut it into shred and eat it and it is indeed salad...crisp and light.

as for the baby food... I had to start making my own when I discovered the stores kept running out of the Gerber Squash and Sweet Potatoes.
My sweet potatoe Sue as I called her...well she was my tiniest of the 3 kids...and well now...she is 11 years old...and 5'8'' tall.....lol... it's either the Sweet Potatoes or the Water I tell you.

Here is a good link I found that might be helpful for the Spinach Baby Food... it's not for puree btw....check out the actual recipe at the end of the article.

OP, if you have Jewel Osco in Ohio, it is the same company, which would have been good to know when I was in Chicago a few years back and not getting the perks from the preferred card, lol. Also Tom Thumb and Safeway have merged and the Safeway products of all kinds I have found to be very good and inexpensive.

My brother's pediatrician in my opinion was weird. They never gave any of their kids even a jar of baby food, nothing pureed, nada. They were told that when the kid started reaching for food that's when you start them on table food.

Mashed potatoes is usually as far as I know with the exception of something like bananas, probably the first real table food most people give their children because the texture doesn't freak them out and there is no choking hazard.

OP, your kids taste buds will not remain constant. There are a few things although I can't think of one off the top of my head that the kids at one time liked and don't later. Cauliflower was one of the few cooked veggies I liked as a kid, I don't dislike it now but it wouldn't be my first choice. There are many things that my boys didn't like when they were younger that they like now. My youngest was a little freak because he liked broccoli when most kids his age wouldn't touch it. My middle son is a totally picky pain in the ass but as he has gotten older, he has discovered that there are foods that he does like now and he is better about trying things, even those things he previously rejected, and I believe as elderly as I am, my taste buds matured in the same way.

Wouldn't have touched most Asian and Mexican food when I was a kid now about the only thing I am never going to like is fish, lol. Couldn't get my middle son to touch a baked potato until about a year or two ago and for some reason he got a hair one day and asked to taste mine when I had successfully decreased the nutritional value by adding tons of sour cream and butter, lol. Now I must guard baked potatoes more closely.

And here's a bit of levity. Picky middle eater wouldn't touch a tomato with a ten foot pole and he doesn't like cheese and yet he eats pizza.

About to go out but thought I'd mention... at 7 months my now 18 year old loved mashed spud if I added a few squirts of breast milk!! It may sound odd but think about it- I swear if I had another child now I'd mix breast milk with farex for that first solid food experience!!
