Posted: 11/6/2009 11:52:02 AM | Due to current work restraints, family issues, and general time management, I have my profile hidden. I just have time to correspond with a limited number of people.
However, every time I get online anyone I write to can see that I am online. Sometimes it is just to read my emails and I don't have time to answer them. Some people get upset because they have seen me online, but I didn't immediately return an email.
I have search everywhere to see if this option is available. Please help!

If you've hidden your profile, then you won't show up in any searches. However, if you are on other people's favourites, or you have people on your favourites, then they can tell when you are online, give or take a few minutes.
Remove yourself from other's lists, and remove everyone from your list, and that should effectively keep your site movement hidden.

This makes no sense to me. What exactly did you solve by hiding your profile. Everyone has a life and everyone knows that other people have lives. How does hiding your profile (or not hiding it) improve (or hinder) your current work restraints, family issues and/or general time management?
Ridiculous.
However, every time I get online anyone I write to can see that I am online. Sometimes it is just to read my emails and I don't have time to answer them. Some people get upset because they have seen me online, but I didn't immediately return an email.
Even if you could be all stealthy and stuff with your visits online. They will also know if you have read their email...or not. So, hiding your presence on here would not serve your purpose.
Personally...and as I stated above...I have and know those that I contact have a life. I don't get all funny when I don't get a response right away. Or at all...for that matter. If those I contact have a problem with my "time management"...they can choose to not have contact with me at all.
And if someone gets all freaky with me because I don't write back right away....too bad.
If it's a big issue....don't read your mail until you have time to reply | |

We still want to be seen and recieve messages. We just dont want people to no when we log on.. Its the online now thats appears under ur picture that pops up everywhere. In the rows above inbox, favs, ur matches etc. For example only, M*Sp**e has a privacy setting to remove online now from under you. Everthing else remains the same. Its no one elses business when we are online and we have the right not to be bothered. It really is simple. Since no ones commented, what can we do to help make this happen? Thanks | |

Its no one elses business when we are online and we have the right not to be bothered.
... and that right has been extended to you by way of hiding your profile.
... and you have also signed away any other rights, as agreed to, by you, by accepting the Terms of Service and User Agreement when you went through the registration process.
Regardless of the Online Indicator, even if it wasn't there, all search results are presented in order by last online, so in effect, someone can still deduce you have been online today at some point, if they see your profile thumbnail float by the top of their inbox, a viewed me list, a search result listing, a my matches listing etc...

The whole hiding online activity thing is a big deal for me too. Its all about privacy. Hiding ur profile under edit is completely different. We still want to be seen and recieve messages. We just dont want people to no when we log on..
Well, maybe you could hide your profile when you log in and un-hide it just before you log out? | |
