I recently looked up on the internet that you can have many soulmates through your lifetime even in pastlife, but never heard of the term TwinFlame until i read further down the page. The term TwinFlame means the one you have been searching for all your life someone who has been assigned to you from birth there the opposite of you.
Ive never came across this person who is meant to be ,the one.'could the one already be there without knowing it? you just can't see it yet' ive heard this ter m many a times before , what you guys think? do you believe there is a twinFlame in seperate of Soulmate?

I don't believe in soulmates... so it would be a huge leap of the imagination to think in terms of twinflames or whatever.

I do however believe in compatibility and compromise...

Soulmate is a term that is so over used. Am a science minded person so new age twilight zone stuff doesn't appeal to me. ~Beth~

Good point... and this would mean that both persons would have to be born at the exact same time... in order for a twinflame to be assigned at birth, the matching twinflame would have to exist.

Logic dictates that this scenario is highly unlikely, otherwise all the believers would only seek out those of the exact age of them...

No, OP, there is no thing as "twinflames". To believe that, you'd have to believe in fairies. (Oh no, I just killed a fairy by saying I didn't believe in them!)

It would have to be physical age... the age at birth. That's the basis of the whole twinflames reasoning... that the mate is predetermined at the birth of the person.

At least this is my understanding of the term... though I'm sure the OP could clarify this for us...

I don't know whether I believe in any of the soul mate thing and I think the twin flame can also be a friend rather than lover?

My thoughts on this? I have had several friends throughout my life that the minute I met them I felt like I had known them a hundred years, finished each other's sentences. Thought so similarly that sometimes it was just kind of creepy. I have read over the years various things about reincarnation, this is just interesting to me and I don't readily dismiss it although I can be science-minded as well.

And aren't there people that we have met that virtually from the first second we seem to hate with no real plausible reason for doing so? Some people might say it was just the gut reading that they were a bad person or something but it could easily also be that you had a relationship with that person in a past life, meh.

If people believe in souls, it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that they continue to inhabit different bodies. I think with the very minimal reading I have done by googling soulmate at some time, the twin flame is not necessarily met with every person, it may take several generations to find that person.

These are terms that are used alot by new age communities and I don't really believe in all that stuff. I don't believe that there is only one single person out there for you. If that is the case I'm screwed. lol

^^^No, according to what I have read there is more than one soul mate in a life time. They are twin flame, karmic and I believe companion. Been some time since I read into this.

There different types of soul mates not just romantic; can be a pet (yup you read correctly haha), friend, mentor, lover, spouse, etc......I find this stuff interesting, but not 100% convinced.

Who knows..........

Dorothy Thompson has authored some books/articles on this topic. There are tons of people who claim to be "experts" (lol).

Hogwash...
Someone is selling books again.

Out of the millions of souls on this earth I do not believe one is assigned to me.

We have the potential to be mated with many different people, it is circumstance that lead you to that person and timing.

Hate the term soul-mate and now I am going to have to hear about twin-flames?

Great observation.

Look at cultures where one sees polyamory which is NOT polygamy, where more than one person is a mutual match based on various interests. Or even our own culture where widows/widowers marry someone who is once again a great match.

It's rubbish... there is no such thing as fate.

The truth is, there are many compatible people out there. All you need are a few variables to come together at once... mutual attraction, good attitudes, a minimum of personal liabilities, and good timing... that's really all there is to it. Might be 2-5 people out of one - two hundred we would find attractive that we are compatible with. That's a lot of people in the world.

What is funny, people who are not compatible don't like each other... but people who like each other think they are compatible. The truth is, people make excuses to fit their own personal desires. Any two people who are flexible enough to agree on the toppings for a pizza and what movie they want to see together are compatible, if attraction is there, and they don't have too many problems/liabilities. Timing is another matter alltogether... most you will never meet, or will be unavailable when you do meet. It's simple, but not easy.

As for my previous life, I was Dr. Phil.

I never have heard that specific term before but the idea is certainly not new, whatever you may choose to call it. Here is a reference that dates back about 2000 years.
According to the Talmud, Rav Yehuda taught that 40 days before a male child is conceived, a voice from heaven announces whose daughter he is going to marry, literally a match made in heaven! In Yiddish, this perfect match is called "bashert," a word meaning fate or destiny.
I don't think I believe that literally, but I do think that there are certain people who are just suited, well matched for us as mates.

RE: "the twin flame can also be a friend rather than lover"

Exactly. It can be your own child. Or our next door neighbour. Even the person you dispise most on this planet. It implies an agreement to "help" each other in the world of form. BUT, the help, if I understand correctly, is of a spiritual nature, not of a material nature. So romance may not even enter the equation. The "work" of it may require you to give up romance at the mundane level! (Oh shoot).

It's getting so that relationships are like razors. Next I'll be searching for my Mach3. The first one lifts, the second one cuts and the third one ... well, I honestly don't know.

I've always taken concepts such as soulmates or twin flames to be more dealing with spirituality (depending on what one believes) rather than as dating ideals, OP. As others have said, neither a soulmate nor a twin flame needs to necessarily be a romantic partner, and not necessarily someone one will meet in this lifetime, either. (Again, depending on what you believe).

It's been a while, but from my foggy recollection, I thought the idea behind a twin flame was..not quite a soul splitting into two, but for lack of a better term. Hence when it's said "at birth" I believe they were referring to the birth of that soul, not a physical birth. Again, depending on what one believes. The idea being that both soulmates and twin flames would be encountered along one's travels, sometimes in good relationships, sometimes not, but in each to help teach some sort of lesson.

These are terms that are used alot by new age communities and I don't really believe in all that stuff.

Yeah, they do all that Twin Flame nonsense in some of the New Age Native american groups like the "Deer Tribe Metis" ...
Most of that stuff has been pretty much determined to be so much nonsense to be sold to gullible people in the name of spirituality...

New age stuff is not good for dating advice.
When single we grasp at any straw to help or figure things out.
If so, stick to horoscopes.
Always good to limit the silly input.

Not that what the OP posted isn't true.
May be.
Who knows?
In the higher spiritual realm we either know or not.
If we wonder, we don't.
So if we don't know something, pointless to speculate on it.
