I was thinking the other day that it would be useful if POF imposed a few mail rules such as...

1. You can't initiate a new contact if you have "unread mail from a new contact" or "read mail from a new contact and not responded to" (e.g. you can't make a new contact if you haven't gone through people trying to make contact with, so either reply or delete it).

2. You can't initiate more then say 5 new contacts a day.

This shouldn't impose extra load on the servers in fact it may even lessen it, plus it will help force people to do some house keeping.

Potentially helpful to whom? I think both these ideas are appalling, and if they were imposed, which they will not be, I wouldn't bother with POF at all.

I think the flaw in your plan is assuming you or anyone is "owed" a reply here. You are not. Your are contacting strangers on the internet. They do not owe you a reply.

Actually no reply is a reply here really. It just means they are not interested. Quit worrying about receiving rejection notices and focus more on how you can get more positive replies here. Trust me that is really all that matters on a site like this.

Forget it, you have both completely missed the point and I'm not going to waste my time arguing.

With any ask of a service, there is always a reason provided in order for the service to render a decision and explain its reasoning for that decision.

Potentially helpful mail rules

1. You can't initiate a new contact if you have "unread mail from a new contact" or "read mail from a new contact and not responded to" (e.g. you can't make a new contact if you haven't gone through people trying to make contact with, so either reply or delete it).

... and how would this be potentially helpful?

2. You can't initiate more then say 5 new contacts a day.

... again, what would the reasoning be for this request

Forget it, you have both completely missed the point and I'm not going to waste my time arguing.

... if you don't explicitly state your why or point, how can the site render a decision on the validity of your request.

Debate is welcome.

Kinda like having to look at your Tax Assessment Notice before you can read Mommy's Letter ...

You can't initiate more then say 5 new contacts a day.

Further limit other People Communications for what/whose Benefit?
Make them talk to you instead? You are allowed up to 40 per Day right now.

Another "Make People do ...!!!" Thread.
