Weekends are heaven.. I have no set schedule or agenda.. I can wake up whenever.. run around in jammies all day or race around the city and do stuff.

but what I love best... are breakfast.... I simply love whipping up something totally yummy to self indulge in while I enjoy my morning coffee and read in peace...

What do you love about weekends...

I get to clean the house

I get to do laundry,

I have to change the bedding , but that clean feeling is good for that first sleep

I don't cook, go out Sat & Sun for meals

I get to play Texas Holdem, and see my kids and grandkids all at the same time!

Sometimes I even manage to meet some one new aor go

I love being able to sleep in. Have no overly important things to do. I get to watch cartoons. Read if I feel like it. Go for a hike. Go for a drive in the mountains. All that sort of stuff. Oh and go have a pint with friends.

This weekend it is spending time with my kids. THat is always fun.

I enjoy spending the weekend cruising 17th Ave, stereo maxed out, making eye contact with the chicks.

My favorite thing, is going back to bed.
I’m an early riser, even on the weekends. Even if I’ve been up late, it’s rare that I can sleep past 6:30. So I get up, have a cup of coffee while checking out the online news and after about an hour, I crawl back into bed and sleep for another hour and a half or so. When I wake up the second time, sometimes I get up and get going on chores and whatnot right away, aaaannnnd ... sometimes I don’t!

OP I thought you didn't cook - I'm confused

I am with antielvis.. I can cook and occassionally enjoy it..but it seems like a ton of effort for like 10 minutes of eating...

Personally I pretend I cant cook.. really I can but I hate cooking for one so I normally nuke crap for me.. but I can cook quite well.

Hmm. Weekends are just like any other day. Work half of them (and get paid for doing it). All the rest are catch up time for all the stuff I can't do when I'm working.

Part of the weekend is also the weekbeginning or weekstart but that rarely gets acknowledged. I like the idea of brunch while lupper or sunch hasn't quite taken off yet.

Dude, you need to take an Anacin or a Quaalude or something. I'm just not feelin' the cheetah. Polar bears or lions. At least wolves or better for 17th ave. You sure that couch isn't a chesterfield?

I like to think about creative anachronism on the weekends.

Well, I COULD respond and let everyone know what my weekends are like; however, AE would accuse me of having OCD (which I still argue I do not).

I do like weekends for a few special reasons though;
- we get our first little granddaughter every Saturday, with or without my daughter;
- walk to Kingsway and find bargains (the Huntress in me);
- specially prepared, elaborate meals (after the week's meals are prepared and frozen);

It's a time for watching the news, catching up on reading, setting things in order once again and preparing for the week ahead.

Nothing.

I hate weekends.

By the time you start to unwind and relax... BANG it's Monday again!

Weekends are a tease.

I don't know if it's just me, but I find that life seems way more busy than it was 10 years ago. Walk to work, work, walk home, cook & eat, gym..and it's 9 PM. I'm in bed at 10 30. Toss in some laundry or ironing and you're day is cooked.

So when the weekend comes there is much of me that just doesn't want to do anything but relax. Forget the shopping mall & running all over the city. I'd just sooner stay at home or walk to the pub/cafe and enjoy some peace and quiet..either alone or with one of my friends.

Surely I can't be the only one that's weary of the non stop go go go of life & the expectation we're always supposed to be doing something.

You have hit middle age AE, and now you have to figure out how to spend the second half!

Nope, has nothing to do with age. One grows weary of being in a business that is 24/7, requires constant training & one that constantly gets more complex.

There’s a very significant correlation between always being “on the go” and the amount of stress hormones the brain dumps into the body. Even if they cause no “apparent” damage, the withdrawal of them, especially if it’s relatively sudden, can cause havoc on an otherwise healthy body, as that body has become dependent on them in ways that are not fully understood.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen healthy, active people retire from mentally and/or physically demanding careers, and they were dead in less than a year. They had no underlying health problems and were beginning to enjoy the fruits of their hard earned labours.

I don’t think it’s the “hard” work that’s the problem (historically people had to work harder than they do today) but people used to have a support system, with family and friends and they took time every day to connect with them. They knew that they could count on them to be supportive, even if only through advice or encouragement. A lot of people are very isolated now and they have no way to “download” and dissipate stress and no one to share burdens with. Unresolved, cumulative stress is toxic.

It’s great to use weekends as an opportunity to relax, sleep and do fun stuff, but I think it’s almost like being the “weekend warrior” in reverse. I think it’s healthier, overall, to relax and do some fun stuff every day. The world won’t fall apart if something has to wait until tomorrow.

When I am off on weekends, I like to let the wife sleep in. She gets up with the kids all week for school (I'm gone to work by the time they get up) but when I am off during the week, she lets me sleep and brings them to school. To return the favor, I try to do the same on weekends for her.
Usually try to get the laundry caught up and dishes done after lobbing some Capt'n Crunch down the kids throats as well so there's not much to do when she wakes.

Then take the afternoon for some man-time in the garage.
