So, it's been snowing here since mid afternoon, half an hour ago the dog went out in the back garden for a pee and hasn't come back. There are three new snowmen shapes near the back of the garden. Any suggestions how I can find the dog?

I would leave him, he is obviously happy building snowmen.

My Dog loves the snow and cold weather and so does one of my cats. As soon as there is snow she is out there like a mentalist leaping around in it.
She hasnt built any snowmen though.

Have you checked that you still have your wallet? He might have built the snowmen as a decoy and gone out on the lash.

The snow on their paws can actually burn them..

For those with dogs who have hairy paws in particular, try rubbing a little vaseline inbetween and over the pads before taking them out. It stops the snow sticking and burning which makes walking painful. I guess you could do the same for cats.

Jake, my Patterdale loves the snow. I usually cannot let him off the lead, he will run and attack any dog, even if it is about 100 metres away. The field next door to my flats is full of snow, but empty of the usual dog walkers, so I can let him off and he runs through the snow like a madman,

A couple have just knocked on my front door to tell me my big white cat was crying to come in. I cant see him in the snow, poor baby. He is soaking wet and very fooked off. 2 of my cats wont go out in the snow and although the other 2 will, they all seem a bit scared of it.

My three chickens are not impressed with the snow,
they have stayed inside, feeling very sorry for themselves
nowhere to scratch about, but I have built a snowman

my chickens love it..they're out there hoppin and skipping...Ive given them hot potatoes (spoilt they are) and corn with red cabbage (makes the eggs yummy)..they come out about 5.00 in the morning in the dark and tap on the back door...I lost them last week, found them in the living room with the dog (real good guard dog) they dont seem to feel the cold..and are now nestling in the holly trees - yes the holly is that big

Just a word of caution to any of you owners of pet Polar bears;

Although your pet will be perfectly at home in these wintry conditions, DO provide him/her with a fluorescent vest or brightly coloured hat etc to ensure he/she doesn't get run over by motorists unable to see him against the snowy background.

...Oh, and if you happen to own a pet seal, it's wise to keep them indoors in this weather, just in case your neighbours own polar bears and have let them out unaccompanied in order that they can "do their business"

^ ^ good idea!

I had a cat years ago and he loved the snow. He would go mad jumping and sliding about in the garden trying to pounce on things he thought he could see. Everyone else would have a perfect snow covered garden but ours looked like it had had half a dozen kids rampaging through it.

Well, this week has been one of the hardest in a long time, a family pet is missing, has been for a week now, has wandered off before but never for this long.

The council deal with live dogs but not live cats as cats aren't treated as domestic pets so having to phone the cleansing dept to see if the dead cat that had been picked off the road was ours was one of the hardest calls I have ever had to make in my life.

And next week will probably be tougher.
