| | Why do men like women to wear dresses/skirts?Page 1 of 11 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) | With a couple of guys I've dated (or friends, when there was some romantic potential there) they commented when I wore a dress, on how I looked nice and I should wear dresses more often.
It was a casual dress, not my attempt at dressing up. I actually wore it because I needed to do laundry and it was the last clean thing available.
I'm not normally a slobby girl -I like wearing cute, flattering jeans and tops most of the time.
But what is it that goes through a man's mind when he sees a girl in a dress, that would cause him to react differently than if she'd just worn a cute top, causing him to compliment her or tell her she should wear them more often? I'm just curious, that's all. | |

Posted: 1/6/2010 3:14:31 PM | I'm a leg man myself--don't get me wrong, if you're sporting cleavage, that'll grab my attention, too--but I find myself admiring a woman's legs or behind far more often. 
Any form of dress that allows a woman to show off her legs will win my approval. <img src=http://www.plentyoffish.com/smiles/icon_201.gif border=0>
Besides, dresses and skirts are often perceived to be more feminine by men and women alike. | |

Posted: 1/6/2010 3:59:20 PM | And I feel compelled to add that it's a bit of a novelty in the cold, wintry northern states, what with the summer months being so woefully short. 
It's actually quite comical to walk around my (college) town during the springtime--one can't help but notice the guys turning their heads and checking out women a lot more frequently once they break out the tank tops, hot pants, skirts, dresses, etc.--YOWZA! 
I must admit, I'm every bit as guilty of this seasonal onset of uber-boorishness. | |

Otherwise, they look clunky and industrial.

Idealized archetypes of femininity are fulfilled, which means he feels more masculine.
How do you hurt a man the most? You emasculate him. What's the opposite of that? You fulfill the ideas of how masculine he is. And you do that by fulfilling their trained idea of the role you are supposed to by your outward appearance or that which he can experience.
You fulfilling your role can be interpreted as recognizing their role and responding to it. Thereby reinforcing their self image and identity. You represent or act more like his idea of a woman, means he will act more like how he thinks a man should.
If so then the world is in harmony. There is a guarantee and absolute. He man, you woman.
Give it a few decades when the old gender role idealizations as evidenced by fashion are reshaped. In 50, 100 years guys will have the same response to hip huggers with "princess" written on the ass and low cut shirts that say "stop reading this and stare at my breasts." Or to "cute tops."

Because men are not trained to recognize "cute tops." There is a rhyme and reason for you to choose the clothes you wear to represent yourself, but it is your rhyme and reason.
Guys respond differently based on those that have the most meaning to them, not you. | |

All but a very tiny minority of women have bodies, or at least some part of same, which are less than perfect -- somewhat malformed, or almost bordering on the grotesque in many instances. Dresses cover up a multitude of sins in this regard, allowing a man to project a more ideal figure onto her out of his vast imaginative powers. | |

When a woman knows she looks good, she is more confident and engaging Better company which is a HUGE plus.
I favorited a woman's profile 1500 miles away because she gets it. Showing up for a date with her A game, sky high heels, nice perfume, a big smile, a great attitude. No, she's not phoning it in... She came to rock my world.
I hate dates where the woman has invested little in getting ready. It tells me that she doesn't value my company or that she's going through the motions... | |

Ouch. I like seeing a lady in a dress because it's getting to be a rare thing. Like when you see a woman with her hair up in a ponytail all the time and one day she has it down (and she has beautiful hair you never knew she had) it'll usually grab your attention.
I rarely see someone sporting a nice dress. When I do, I don't think "Man, I wanna tear that dress off here." More like "Wow, that woman is looking quite beautiful today." and sometimes get caught staring...lol. | |

Wow. I had to check your profile, I was curious to see if someone with such hatred towards men was actually looking for a man. I was surprised to see that you are.
