Can someone tell me why POF is promoting cougarism with the on site ad of Cougarlife.com? That should make all the older gentlemen on this site happy, don't you think? Not to mention it makes a lot of us women look bad too. Any thoughts?

I always thought the term cougar ment a women who is empowered, strong and confident . Obviously it is a term for someone in an age range. But I like to think of it in a positive way.

Advertising pays the bills.

I could care less. It caters to the cougars and the patrons thereof. Neither would interest me anyway...unless it is an eighty year old cougar.

As I said...it pays the bills so we don't have to.

Not to mention it makes a lot of us women look bad too. Any thoughts?

Only if you are one...and only to those that think it's a bad thing. "To each...their own" IMO. There are plenty of other (lack of) character traits much higher on my "list".

The ads are targeted. Men get ads for fat women dating sites or marriage oriented sites or whatever research shows they are most likely to be interested in. The ads aren't screened one by one, just a stream of ads and they are targeted to the user at the time.

You're getting cougarlife ads because you're a woman.

The parameters are chosen by the advertiser.

Are cougars the same as mountain lions?

Advertising - it is what it is. POF sells ad space, they bought it.

I haven't seen any yet, but it wouldn't bug me.

Allieoops POF alternates ads for other single or dating sites, and its how they can make this site free. People who visit those sites, pay POF for each visitor. And I dislike the term cougar and how the media, especially television is showing 'cougars'.
Am not a cougar, lioness, feline, or any other form of cat.

I think being pursued by so-called "cougars"--attractive older women with out-of-control libidos--is a terrible thing for any young man to have to cope with. Just imagine how these seductive predators must distract young fellows from their work and their studies!

You are correct. You don't meet the criteria for the term...

Cougars... Nothing wrong with that! :-D

I understand the concern, but these are site ads and sites put up by people in a capitalist country. Anything for the money and to spark the interests of those who find it suitable to their needs/wants. Although it singles people out and giving the wrong display, if your photo isn't present on there without your consent... Then what seems to be the issue?

Cougars annoy me to no end. I'm 50 so cougars are of the age I would normally date. Except they are off chain-dating young studs. I'm no hunk now and never was one. I'm just an average looking middle aged man who can't seem to get the attention of a woman I find attractive. Sorry BBWs, I'm a thin guy and am not attracted to your type in the least. Unfortunately, the BBWs are the only ones who contact me here.

I'm close to deleting my account.

ah sorry Ogre, but sometimes we BBW's just want a light snack and other times we go for the big mac.

before you delete your profile, remember that although these sites are a good tool for meeting potentials, don't limit yourself to only using these sites to meet potentials. there's a whole big world out there.......

If I were female, I'd be more bothered by the ads that feature remarkably HAWT women when ever I login right next to the women who are on this site. There's always a woman who is considered a "ten" in any guys book in an ad for another site right next to the photos of POF mambers who aren't nearly as gorgeous as the woman in the ad.

*Opens mail page. Notices there's no new mail*
"Hmmm, there's an attractive local woman online. Oh, she's kind of cute. So is she."

*looks over at an ad for another dating site*
"HELLO! Damn, she's freaking smoking HAWT! What am I doing on this site? This other site has the bronzed, thin, blonde, girl next door with the huge knockers on it."

*looks back at the POF local women online*
"Ehhh. She's alright. Ohh, that one's kind of plain Jane. Hmmm, oh well...off to the forums."

Maybe it should be changed to Kangaroo, (from the family of Macropods).

A few interesting facts about Kangaroos;

The stomachs of macropods are complex sacculated organs. The compartments contain microorganisms that aid with digestion by fermentation A bit like cows... Some kangaroo species also regurgitate and chew their food like cows.

Most macropods are nocturnal, moving about and looking for food at night time. Some are particularly active during the early morning or late evening hours (they are said to be crepuscular, which means active during twilight hours). Few are active during the day. Most kangaroos spend the day resting in the shade.

All macropods have very strong hind legs and large feet.

All marsupials have a pouch in which their young live, drink milk and develop until they are big enough to face the world.

Adult females are called doe, flyer or jill.

Just some thoughts, besides it beats the male term by miles. Seriously would you rather be known as, "A Dirty Old Woman."

Later,
iBob

I would love to have a cougar, but since I am 46 does that mean she has to be in her 60s. Isn't a 20 year age difference about the average.

I don't have problem with a cougar, as long as she is nice and younger than me

where to search for 20-30 year old cougars, that are looking for slightly older men?
