| | If you had your time over...Page 1 of 2 (1, 2) | | In response to the thread "one month to live" I recall when i worked in aged care I had a brilliant idea to compile a book containing all the things that our elderly clients would do if they could be 21 again for only one day. I imagined their answers would be varied and full of wisdom, showing what is really important in life. Surprisingly, 98% of them only had one answer and it was consistantly the same. Can you guess what it was? | |

| If you had your time over... Posted: 1/28/2010 5:29:54 AM | Op no I can't guess, I am not in their position. For most of us any answer we give we should just go and do it we have the time and energy to make that one day a reality. On a side note I guess you won't be writing that book might be a bit short :-). It's a bit like what do you grab if your house is on fire? but no not trying to rob a thread just similar question just less time. But since you have male and females involved that rules out hobbies and the like, so only common thing could be friends or family related........ just don't leave the answer until page 500 that will bug me now and I have to go to work. | |

| If you had your time over... Posted: 1/28/2010 8:23:23 AM | | Appreciate the little things, like that first cup of coffee - and their morning dump? | |
|
| If you had your time over... Posted: 1/28/2010 8:24:27 AM | | One more....a lot of very silly people would want to be on TV--just wanted to make sure I get credit for noticing this. | |

| If you had your time over... Posted: 1/28/2010 9:03:14 AM | Actually, if I had one chance to do something over again (and it would have to be younger than 21), I'd tell my mother that I loved her. | |

| If you had your time over... Posted: 1/28/2010 3:37:20 PM | Come on. Those people in nursing facilities etc. are so drugged out of their minds(being experimented for quacks and drug companies etc.)deeply malnourished, physically and mentally ill, that they couldn't give you a logical answer if they had to. A vast majority of these individuals who are held captive in their bodies, can't even recall who the people are that come to visit them. Never the less, if I had my time over, regardless of how perfect or imperfect that it has been, I would have elected to never have arrived on the planet. I look forward to the great finale, when I can finally escape!

wow that slaps us out of our warm fuzzy place.. but youre right. Lots of people in nursing homes just want to cash it in and take the eternal dirt nap or go to the specific religious payoff. Many have lived with non stop pain and may be slowly losing all dignity.. how does the song go??,,,,, "better to burn out than to rust"?

| If you had your time over... Posted: 1/28/2010 5:58:20 PM | | It was a rude guess in response to a rude question. Either tell us WTF people said, or STFU about it, is my attitude. | |

No, so how about you tell us! Now you've made us curious!
I think that it's significant and important what the most elderly people would do different if they could be younger again. So please, O.P, tell us what their answer was. We could learn from them, maybe learn important things about how to live differently, how to avoid mistakes that we're making, to avoid wasting our time, based on their longer-term perspective.
Also, it would be interesting and important, quite aside from any practical choice-making advantages, to hear how that matter is viewed by the oldest people.
It's so regrettable that early in life, especially childhood, but maybe early adulthood too, people, encountering life for the first time, make mistakes and omissions that are so obvious later.
Childhood is the crucial time, though.

...I had a brilliant idea to compile a book...
I'm beginning to get your drift... Still a work in progress, right?...
Can you guess what it was?
Haven't the foggiest... Yet I know what I'd do in that fractional slice of time; that twenty-four hours of reprise...
But I aint tellin'...
'Cause I'm writin' a book, too...

| If you had your time over... Posted: 1/29/2010 3:47:05 AM | | ok, the answer was to play sport. If they had one day in their 21 year old body they would want to run, play tennis, basketball, swim, play cricket - anything physically hard and demanding. For most of them there was no hesitation, no pondering - they wanted to play. I was surprised - as i think many of you will be - no one guessed it. Funny how your priorities change isn't it? | |
