| | So Oprahs comming down under.Page 1 of 1 | | She's actually taking her entire studio audience from one show down. It's been on all the news here. So her, her entourage and another maybe 200 people that were just guests that day on the show and probably their families.. She owns property all over my island and is quite respectful of all the local culture so if you treat her good she'll be very accommodating and yeah probably great for a certain part of the economy. | |

Whilst I don't particularly like Oprah, it would undoubtedly be an excellent promotion for our state if she came here. After all, she'd have to be about the most influential woman on earth. Sad, but true.

Also I look into the Port Douglas news now and then and it sounds like they are pulling out all the stops to do everything they can to promote the visitor trade. The world sure is a changin'.

| So Oprahs comming down under. Posted: 10/29/2010 9:52:17 PM | As a promotion for tourism I think its quite a coup to get Oprah to have a couple of her shows in Aus. Its going to be quite difficult to get people to choose to come here on holidays when our dollar is so high at the moment so it may be that the full effect won't be felt for some time.
It surprises me that she has so much clout in one way. I don't know many people that sit down and watch daytime tv and I think I've only watched Oprah a couple of times in my life. Mind you, she wasn't on telly back when I was sitting on the lounge with babies.

Mind you, she wasn't on telly back when I was sitting on the lounge with babies. Having been a shift worker Ive had the delight of being an Oprah fan for many a year. These days its Oprah, Dr Phil and the View that make my day. Used to like Ellen in the early days, now she is something of a bore.
|
| So Oprahs comming down under. Posted: 10/30/2010 1:10:51 PM | ^^^So you'll be watching the episodes at the 'Oprah House' with interest?
I've never seen the View but Dr Phil is interesting and it shows that daytime telly has improved a lot from when Days of our Lives was the only thing on.

| So Oprahs comming down under. Posted: 11/1/2010 5:28:00 AM | Have put my name down for tickets What do you reckon on my chances ? I'd be hoping for air fare as well along with the bonus under my chair Hey wonder if I could score hotel accommodation as well Wonder if it will be any different seeing her on telly when she is only a 1000 k's away | |

| So Oprahs comming down under. Posted: 12/9/2010 8:14:27 PM | | Umm who cares!.She is not royalty or a saint but the media are treating her like one. Also she is getting $4 million to come here.It is not the Sydney Oprah House as they are calling it.What a crock. | |
|
| So Oprahs comming down under. Posted: 12/9/2010 9:42:43 PM | Yep, she's getting a few million but Australian Tourism is getting untold millions!! What a terrific boost for our economy.
Remember, anything that Oprah endorses creates a massive amount of attention and income!! I think its great for us. Her visit, together with her enterage and the 300 audience members will be talking about it for a long time to come which is advertising in itself.
Having said that, I agree it shouldn't be called the Oprah House. That stinks, but I guess for the sake of her visit its aptly called as such. If the title remains I'll be pretty pi$$ed off.

| So Oprahs comming down under. Posted: 12/10/2010 7:56:13 AM | I am not an Oprah fan at all, but better to spend some on her and what she generates than the English royals. Since we didnt get the world cup we need to attract stuff down here.
Cheers FP. | |

| So Oprahs comming down under. Posted: 12/10/2010 12:46:21 PM | | I just hope the high Aussie $ is not going to affect the tourists' enthusiasm to hug a koala bear...especially when places like Japan and the rest of the world are currently at bargain basement prices... | |

| So Oprahs comming down under. Posted: 12/12/2010 8:28:39 PM | Russell Crowe, Olivia Newton-John, Bon Jovi, Bindi Irwin, will be a few of her guests.
(There will be 6,000 audience members for the two shows, did I read that right?)
